BROKE LA // ARTIST REVIEW // MADEAUX
DOESN’T HE GET TIRED? MADEAUX WON’T STOP ‘TILL HE REACHES THE TOP
Moving from Miami to LA was probably one of the biggest steps anyone would have to take if they wanted to truly commit to breaking through in dance music, but it was a step that served Madeaux well. After his debut on the Shifty Rhythms Stage at Brokechella last year, Madeaux went on to become A-Trak’s hand-picked artist to join the Fool’s Gold label. By receiving such unwavering support from a legend like A-Trak only proved to us that Madeaux was setting himself up for a year of pure success.
Throughout 2015, Madeaux went on to perform packed out venues like Exchange LA, Golden Box, Echoplex, Create, and Avalon. By the end of August, Madeaux was already showcasing his talent to thousands of Angelinos at The Shrine for Fool’s Gold Day Off. If this already didn’t look like a busy schedule, Madeaux kept the ball rolling by collaborating with an eclectic of artists such as Will Brennan, Man Man Savage, and Daktyl. Not only did he discover a perfect balance of hip-hop and dance music, but he also proved that no genre is untouchable let alone limiting in the ways that you can produce it.
By September people were already anticipating the release of his New Wav EP, which quickly became one of Fool’s Gold most listened to releases of 2015. The commitment and seriousness Madeaux takes on with his production is amplified in the New Wav EP, which continues to be well received across all major platforms including Thump, Nest HQ, and Billboard, just to name a few.
As Madeaux welcomed the new year by headlining his first show at Sound, both Billboard Dance and DJ Mag named him “Artist to Watch” in 2016, and we couldn’t agree more. Last year we gave Madeaux a platform to showcase his talent, and in return he left a memorable mark with his music. As Madeaux continues to make moves in 2016, expect nothing but ingenuity.
BROKE LA // ARTIST REVIEW // FORTUNE TELLING WITH FORTUNE
One of the growing trends in the dance music world last year was the formation of collectives. Smaller than a standard indie label, but big enough to make a mark, collectives became a way for groups of talented musicians to help each other break through the scene. By collaborating with one another and pushing out each other’s tracks, collectives were able to reach quick momentum and a strong following within a year. But there was one collective that catapulted quicker than the others, and that was Flow - Fi.
In 2014, LA based producer Fortune created Flow - Fi over the internet and across the globe with aywy. and subdaio. Even though aywy. was in Australia and subdaio in New Jersey, Fortune was still able to lock down over a dozen producers to help lay the foundation for their group. Within six months of being established, Flow-Fi had over 2 million plays collectively on Soundcloud. Flow-Fi was just the beginning for Fortune, as he quickly became one of the most sought out beat makers in LA.
Being an LA native, with an organic and experimental sound, Fortune quickly found a home with HWW Recordings (How What & Where). Fortune made his biggest hit when Goldlink released his delux album, releasing Fortune and aywy.’s rework as the official remix for the God Complex album. The track hit #2 on itunes and quickly became a hit of the year. After working with Goldlink, Fortune went on to release the collaborative Evangeline EP with Sylvan Lacue.
Last year we had Flow-Fi co-founder Fortune perform on the Brownies & Lemonade stage, and even though his label was less than a year old, the packed out show proved that we were witnessing the rise of a future legend. In 2015 he was named “Producer to Watch” by A&R Report. He has over 1 million plays in the last 7 months alone, proving that Fortune is quickly becoming a key player in the evolution of the beat making scene here in LA.

Broke LA Announces 2016 Line Up
Broke LA dropped the “Chella” from its name but they’re keeping their promise on offering Angelenos a much cheaper alternative to spending a small fortune in Indio. The one day fest will have a ton of bands, DJs, artists and comedians taking over a massive warehouse space in the Arts District. The lineup has just been released and has Vinyl Williams, DWNTWN, Tennis System, Stelouse, Softest Hard, Blackgummy, Daniel D’Artiste and a whole lot more. These are not the major arena filling acts that you get in the desert, but it’s quality local talent that you’ll see going off to do major things in the future.
Broke LA will be back on Saturday, April 23rd which is during the second weekend of Coachella. If you attended last year then you’ll recognize the venue which is on 695 S. Santa Fe in DTLA. This is a 21 and over event which means you can wander freely with your cold brew and will kick off at 3pm and go into the night.
The other best part about Broke LA is the cheap price tag for tickets. You get all of these acts on multiple stages for just $20.00 plus fees. The general pre-sale is going on now and you can buy your tickets through Ticketfly. You can grab your tickets now through the link below and keep an eye out on a Broke LA playlist so you can get to know what kind of awesome talent will be coming out in April!
