Ā Ā Merlin was unconscious for a long time, and Eggsy stayed by his bedside for most of it, leaving to eat and shower, things he could not do from the chair that probably had an imprint in the perfect shape of his arse by now; the young man even slept there a lot of the time. Everyone from Harry to Champ thought guilt kept him there, a lot of it was, but he had additional reasons for wanting to be there, wanting to look after him.
Ā Ā After Merlin woke up, the days felt a lot shorter; he did not talk about the mistake that brought them there, but they talked about everything else. When he appeared to feel well enough for a solid meal, Eggsy came through the door carrying a bag of KFC from Kentucky itself. The night they drank together was blurry, but he remembered most of it. āAlright, Merlin?ā He was wearing the cap given to him on Valentineās Day and the loud yellow and black tracksuit. āHow are you feeling?ā After he put the bag down, the agent put his hand over the quartermasterās and gently squeezed it. āI brought you something.ā
Eggsyās constant presence was honestly, rather appreciated. Whenever Merlin woke up from the fog of very good drugs he was currently under, he would look over and see the Eggsy there, and it provided him a lot more comfort than he could really express. It turns out stepping on a mine and coming out of it alive was far more work and repair on not only your legs but for the organs and most everything else too. Who knew. Heād been on a strict diet as his insides were carefully looked over and repaired using the nanites, though Merlin would have probably objected strongly to their use if heād been awake for the decision. Who knows the lasting effects they have and from what heād gathered the nanites were usually used on brain injuries and more delicate tissues than organs, bone and muscles.
Still, heād been more and more awake as the days went on and he became lucid in longer and longer periods, which Eggsy kindly filled with his company and conversation. There was a few unspoken things in the room, about Merlinās failed martyrdom and Cambodia, but other than that, he enjoyed the company. He hated stagnating for too long, keeping his mind and hands occupied. Statesman had also refused to let him access to a tablet or laptop so he was near going mad with frustration whenever Eggsy went off and heād end up awake.
So when Eggsy walked in with a bag of KFC, Merlin let out a laugh. Heād recalled that night too, though the memory was patchy. Weepy drunk, lamenting about county music and KFC, wanting to drink to Scotland of all things.Ā It was very sweet of the lad to remember what heād said and bring it to him. A few days ago someone had put on John Denver and heād nearly fallen out of bed in a panic whenĀ āCountry Roadsā had come on.Ā
āBetter with you here.ā Considering everything, he wasnāt in much pain, and he preferred being alert to the feeling of being sedated with painkillers, so he would take the discomfort. But the dullness- that was near unbearable. It warmed his heart that Eggsy was spending the time here fretting, even if he didnāt deserve it.
