#NotMyPresident
The electoral college does not vote until December 19th. We have 40 days.
What does this mean?
Right now, the presidential election results are only a PROJECTION of the election outcome. They are PRELIMINARY RESULTS. A candidate still needs to earn 270 electoral votes to win. Hillary Clinton won the popular vote, which means that more than 50% of the voters wanted her for president. The electoral college shouldnât guarantee an override of the publicâs opinionâ and it doesnât have to.
There are 21 states that do NOT restrict which candidate the electors vote for. Out of these 21, Hillary lost the following:
As you can see, these states are worth 166 electoral votes. As it currently stands, Hillary Clinton is projected to receive 232 votes. Trump is projected to win 306. This means that 37 votes need to be taken away from Trump to bring him down to 269. Hillary Clinton needs 38 votes ADDED to win 270. These electoral voters can also abstain, which means that they can refuse to vote for either candidate. If 37 of the voters within these states abstain then no candidate will have reached the required 270. In this case, the vote would be taken to the House.
Trump won Pennsylvania, a state that typically votes blue, by less than 100,000 votes. While it is highly unlikely to get all 20 electoral voters to cross party lines and vote democrat, it also isnât impossible to convince a few of them to be âfaithless electors.â We only need to convince 38 out of the 166. That is 23%. There are SIXTEEN states we need to focus our attention on.
A move like this would be unprecedented. However, as we all saw on November 8th, odds donât guarantee reality. Trump had a less than 20% chance of winning, yet given the circumstances, enough people came together and made it happen. We can make this happen.Â
Ask yourself this: What do we have left to lose? We can stay complacent and accept that this country will be run by a racist, sexist, islamophobic, homophobic, ablest bigot, or we can at least try.Â
How?
SPREAD THE WORD. Trend #NotMyPresident to let people know that we do not accept being led by a man who does not care about our wellbeing. Email your professors, email the dean of your colleges. The last thing a university wants is negative press. Millenials can take a stand, but that doesnât mean we have to be the only ones. Church-led events helped bring a lot of disillusioned voters to the polls. Spread the word in any way possible, whether it be on Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr, or even in person. Stage a peaceful protest. Hand out flyers. Let the people around you know that you donât accept this man as your leader when he wonât even accept you as a citizen with your designated rights.
These 166 people need to face the consequences of electing this man.Â
Do this for the people who couldnât vote. Do this for the people who live in the very real fear of being deported. Do this for the people who will have to face the rise in hate crimes. Do this for the people who have a very real possibility of losing their rights. Do this for the people who will no longer be able to afford necessities.Â
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS:
Is this possible?
Yes, I wouldnât have made the post without doing my research. Read the following paragraphs, taken from archives.gov:
Are there restrictions on who the Electors can vote for?
There is no Constitutional provision or Federal law that requires Electors to vote according to the results of the popular vote in their states. Some states, however, require Electors to cast their votes according to the popular vote. (The 16 states listed above do NOT restrict their electors to this rule.) These pledges fall into two categoriesâElectors bound by state law and those bound by pledges to political parties.
The U.S. Supreme Court has held that the Constitution does not require that Electors be completely free to act as they choose and therefore, political parties may extract pledges from electors to vote for the partiesâ nominees. Some state laws provide that so-called âfaithless Electorsâ may be subject to fines or may be disqualified for casting an invalid vote and be replaced by a substitute elector. The Supreme Court has not specifically ruled on the question of whether pledges and penalties for failure to vote as pledged may be enforced under the Constitution. No Elector has ever been prosecuted for failing to vote as pledged.

Can Hillary still receive votes from the electoral college even though sheâs conceded?
Think about it, Mitt Romney lost the 2012 election. All of the electoral voters didnât immediately vote for President Obama the second he conceded. The election still ended up being 332 votes to 206. Not 538 unanimous votes for Barack Obama.
âFor starters, it doesnât matter if a losing candidate concedes, as far as the Electoral College process goes, according to Amy Bunk, director of legal affairs and policy at the Office of the Federal Register, among other experts.â

Conceding does not take a candidateâs name off of the ballot that the electoral voters see. In the past, âfaithless electorsâ have voted for the projected losing candidate, or even voted third party.Â

Concession really only means acceptance of the PROJECTED outcome. This does not mean that the actual outcome cannot be different from the projected outcome. Please keep this in mind.

ALSOÂ a friendly reminder that a concession is not set in stone, and can be reversed:
ââŚa spoken concession does not necessarily deny a candidate office if there is a drastic reversal in the vote countâŚ
It is exceedingly rare for a concession, once issued, to be retracted; BUT such an event occurred in the United States 2000 presidential election, when Democratic candidate Al Gore, Jr. telephoned Republican George W. Bush to concede the contest. Gore was apparently unaware of the close vote count in the state of Florida, and when he realized it, he proceeded to cancel his concession address.â

i havent shaved my legs in a really long time and while i was babysitting my skirt edged up a bit and the seven year old i was watching said âew you should shave that hairs not supposed to be thereâ and i said âwell if its not supposed to be there then why does it grow there?â and he was really silent for a long time and then finally said âlets watch sonic the hedgehogâ
tumors grow, are they supposed to be there?

sometimes i think about the fact that Dreamworks was working on the Prince of Egypt and Shrek at the same time and would apparently send people to work on Shrek instead of the Prince of Egypt as a form of punishmentÂ
the night i posted this i couldnât find a source and iâve been wondering ever since if maybe it was just some kind of fucked up fever dream or something. but no, itâs real:
I canât wait until like twenty years after weed is fully legalized and nobody cares anymore and comedians have to make real movies with real jokes
me: types âtittyâ into google on an incognito window
the nsa:Â
Too bad you dont. Incognito mode doesnt hide where you go. Its still reported to your internet provider. It doesnt put it into your computer history and thats about it. You dont see it, someone who goes on your computer cant see it. But your service provider and most definitely the NSA can see it.
I can guarantee you that they donât give two shits what you google as long as you arenât a suspected terrorist or whatever. Literally it is impossible to watch every single of the millions of devices used and billions of searches done each day
unfortunately you are wrong and i have been apprehended by the cia for rampant tiddy fiendery on multiple innocent search engines and am serving multiple life sentences in the FEMA death camps of the Alaskan wilderness
Iâm almost certain every single writer or suicidal person is tagged by the NSA for being a terrorist. I know I am. Especially with my research for Joker fanfics.

THINGS A PRESIDENT CANNOT DO:
Reverse any Supreme Court decisionÂ
This includes Obergefell v. Hodges, which made same-sex marriage a constitutional right; Whole Womanâs Health v. Hellerstedt, which reaffirmed a womanâs right to choose first articulated in Roe v. Wade, another Supreme Court case. Grutter v. Bollinger, which instituted affirmative action, the entire body of Civil Rights case law, plus anything related to due process, including the right of minors to due process, your right to an attorney, Miranda rights, inadmissible evidence, etc.
(Even if Trump appoints the worst possible SC nominee, they still canât reverse any of these decisions without a really significant case coming before the Court with new facts, and then they have to write an opinion stating how this case is different than that other caseâŚitâs unlikely to happen.)
Write law or repeal any existing law
While traditionally, presidents have exerted influence on the legislative agenda (see, Obamaâs role in advancing and promoting the Affordable Care Act) they cannot actually write or pass legislation. Bills, joint resolutions, concurrent resolutions, and simple resolutions must be introduced in the House by a Representative.
Presidents cannot strike down law. Only Congress can repeal laws, and only the Supreme Court can strike them down as unconstitutional.
Presidential influence is just thatâinfluence.
(And ifâfor exampleâyou are hated by 95% of the party you joined last week, and burned all your goddamn bridges by insulting them at various points in your campaignâŚ..theyâre unlikely to partner with you in crafting legislation.)
Make any law or declaration that infringes in any way on the rights of the states
So in the US, most of the rights are reserved to the states. You name it, itâs a state-run power. Criminal procedure and law? States. Medicare and Medicaid? States. The definition of marriage? States. Insurance, health departments, housing, unemployment benefits, public education, all these are state programs. And the president cannot infringe on those powers given to the states.
(This is why down-ticket voting is so important, because Mike Pence as governor of Indiana had 800x the power heâs going to have as VP.)
Declare war.
This one is the most complicated, because with the advent of our âconflictsâ in Vietnam, Iraq, Afghanistan, Libya, etc. there has been a significant shift in the articulation of the war doctrine, and it is one of the least restricted of the presidentâs ârestrictedâ powers. But, despite all that, a president still has no power to declare war.
Unilaterally appoint heads of administrative departments
Unilaterally make treaties with foreign nations
Essentially, while presidents have a lot of power, itâs mostly unofficialâthey canât make sweeping laws, they canât overturn existing rights, the most they can do is refuse to enforce them (which is absolutely a threat! and a problem!) but we arenât electing de facto royalty here.
full offence but trump better get assassinated within 1 day of his presidency
