To say that Clark had crumbled after his relationship with Lois wouldâve been an understatement. Thankfully, the Kryptonian reached out to his friends and had composed himself. Not at first, of course. There was a lot of denial and anger burning within him at the beginning⌠But at last, he settled. Regardless of the turmoil raging under his emblem, Clark Kent knew he still had an image to uphold. He still carried Hope on his shoulders.
And then, he had invested himself in a mission alongaide Bruce that brought them to New York, 1973. Amidst all the troubles and alarming suspicions that had been occupying the Kryptonianâs time and mind, Clark recognized Loisâ heartbeat.
Without even realizing it, Clark had followed the sound⌠And found her sitting at a table, fingers drumming idly. He watched her, taking in every miniscule detail, breathing in her scent. God, he missed her⌠It took all his will-power to finally take a seat across from her rather than running into her arms. When she finally spoke, her words made the Kryptonian chuckle. Finally switching to civilian clothing, he fixed his glasses. âYea⌠You look pretty stunning yourself,â he countered, unable to meet her gaze. âIâm a bit surprised to see you here.â
Lois shrugged. âI donât know how I got here,â she replied quietly. âBut Iâm here now.â She paused for a moment, a crooked smile lifting at the corner of her lips. âYouâre a sight for sore eyes. I thought Iâd be completely on my own.â She wanted to reach out and take his hand, but she stopped herself from doing itâthings were already muddled as is. She didnât want to give him hope for them to end up in their time again and realize nothing had changed.Â
But maybe things had changedâmaybe she had changed. Now that she had been here for a little while, she realized that she didnât mind the slower lifestyle. She didnât mind spending time in one place, working on her craft and making it home for dinner every night.Â
Maybe she could make it home for him, too.Â
Turning her hand over, she flicked her fingers at him, gesturing for him to take her hand if he wanted. She kept her chin resting in her other hand as she looked him over with the same, lovestruck gaze as she had so often. âHow did you end up here?â she asked, though the question wasnât important. It didnât matter how they ended up hereâwhat mattered was that they were both in the same place now. What came next? Lois couldnât answer that question for certain, but then, in that moment, she knew that whatever it was, she wanted Clark there.
Her voice was music for his ears, it had always been so. One thing was true: she was there now. Clark couldn't help the smile then, his gaze finally meeting hers. It wasn't as bad as he thought, seeing Lois again. In fact, for some reason, he felt calmer. She had always been able to make the Man of Steel safe and at peace, time had not changed a thing.
Hearing her say he was a sight for sore eyes, Clark laughed softly, a hint of sorrow in his demeanor. Did she not remember that as long as Clark lived, she would never be alone? He wanted to remind her--just a touch of her fingertips, a brush of her lips... But Clark knew he couldn't. Bittersweet, as it was, Clark's smile just grew as she spoke.
"Justice League business," he mumbled, looking away. "Completely backfired," he added with an awkward chuckle. "Was meant to better our situation with the sentinels, no advancements whatsoever on that..." He had to admit, venting to her like he used to was satisfying and comforting. "Hatred against us is intensifying by the day, more and more find themselves time travelling without meaning to... You know, work stuff," he joked with a smile, his gaze finally locking with hers as his hand slipped into hers.
What Lois liked about 1973 was that she actually had some down timeâthe news cycle was never-ending in 2017, with social media and so-called âcitizen journalismâ suddenly taking a front row seat to established news organizations, she was constantly on the clock trying to keep up with everything. Being given a chance to slow down and take things in was a somewhat new feeling for herâit was nice to be able to just go on a walk sometimes and not have to worry about what was trending on Twitter or blowing up across Facebook.Â
However, too much down time gave Lois a chance to be lonely. It gave her a chance to feel that loneliness. It gave her a chance to miss home. She was never the kind of person to pity herself, but some days, she didnât have it in her to pretend that she didnât miss her old life. Things were easier when she could distract herself by going overseasâthings were easier when she had other people in her life she could talk to about these things.Â
It wasnât that she didnât want to talk to Clark. It was that she didnât quite know how to, anymore.Â
Drumming her fingers lightly against the table between them, she rested her chin in the palm of her other hand. âI have to say, Clark, you look especially dashing in all these 70s clothes,â she said with a crooked smirk, unable to help herself from just a little bit of flirting. She missed him. Some part of her wanted to go back to when they were just together and they were happyâa bigger part of her feared that they never could.Â

As her hand wrapped around his arm, his own hand gripped affectionately at hers. The smile didnât even weakened, at least not until she asked his opinion on their current situation. Once the question was out there, however, Clarkâs demeanor changed slightly. The smile that had reigned over his features had dissolved and his gaze focused on the gates as had Karaâs. âNothing good. Hatred towards metahumans just keeps growing, Xavier is missingâŚâ Clark sighed loudly, slightly shaking his head. After a small paused, his gaze returned to his cousin. âHow you get here?â
Her gaze shifted back to him, a frown finding its way onto her face. âOh - you met him then?â she asked curiously, shifting again so she could lean against the railing, hands set on either side of her. âWas he a friend of yours?â She was certainly grateful to the professor for letting them all reside here, but she also did not have quite the connection to him as others here did. She was just as determined to get him back, but she also hadnât ever seen his face. âHeard everybody was jumping back and decided to join in on the fun,â she teased before growing more serious. âI wasnât about to let all of you take this on without joining the fight.â
When asked if he had met Charles Xavier, Clark shrugged. "Not here, no. But I did run an interview with the Professor back in our timeline," he explained. "Even then, he wasn't exactly a friend... Just a man Clark Kent interviewed for the Daily Planet," he answered with a small smile. Hearing Kara was joining the fight brought a wide grin to Clark's lips. "Seems great. I was actually planning on running a scan throughout the country. Whatever we see thats suspicious we regroup and bring the news back. Whatever is lined with lead is considered suspicious," he clarified with a smile. "Wanna join me?"

Halâs words did little to settle the growing suspicions and worries within the Kryptonian. Sure some had travelled willinglyâBruce and himself were perfect examples of such. But⌠What if that had been what gave their enemies the idea? What if they noticed what the superheroes intentions were and decided to simply shoot most superheroes into the past to overwhelm and rewrite history? âI donât know, Hal⌠Its just a feeling⌠A voice in the back of my head,â Clark tried to explain.
âAnd now ProfessorâI mean, Mr. Xavierâwas taken right from under our noses,â he pointed out with a small, frustrated sigh. âIâm going to have to scan this whole country⌠Maybe I can take Kara and Connor, if theyâll help. And that is if Mr. Xavier is still within the US⌠Hoping that wherever they have him isnt outlined with lead.â Clark sighed once more. âKinda hoping to see J'onzz around these parts too, heâd be helpful as well,â he admitted, Martian Manhunter having been on his mind after hearing the news of Charlesâ abduction. âMaybe you and Barry are up for some treasure hunting. We can ask Bruce and Diana as well.â
Hal had learned many things about being within the justice league team. One of them was always trusting Clarkâs intuition, even if it was something horrible. â I can understand that but I also know some villains have come back as well. hopefully, we return home itâs back to the time we first left so nothing has been changed. I suppose Iâm more worried about what our actions here have causedâ he sighed
He had heard about the taking of one of their own, nothing hurt more when you couldnât protect your own. â I just canât believe they gathered him up so quickly Clark. Itâs unnerving there are kids here that also could have been taken while we slept.â He nodded listening to the otherâs plan of actions â that sounds like it would work. Yes, Barry and I are always up missions together. I donât think Jâonzz is around but I believe there was talk of mâgann being here?â He asked wondering if it would help in any way.
Hope. Yea, Clark hoped so too... However, the mere thought whole ordeal sent a chill down the Kryptonian's spine. One problem at a time though. At Hal's following words, Clark nodded silently, listening closely. The fact that Hal and Barry paired up for missions made the Man of Steel feel quite at ease. He trusted both males with his life, and knowing that they were with him was calming. "Good. We need to unite this whole household. Organize." Even the most villainous characters present should be able to agree that uniting was the most intelligent plan for them. After all, whether they liked it or not, they were all in it together.
"We should try to speak with those within the manor. Set up a perimeter and work out patrols within it and organize a search team," Clark proposed. Rarely did the Kryptonian do much without the approval of his teammates. "Maybe you and Barry can speak to some of the tenants here. I'll gather Diana and Bruce to do the same," he proposed. "I'm going to look for Kon and see if I stumble upon M'gann as well." It was much, but it was a start.
Cavill, you shady bitch.

âJust be sure to be safe, of course,â he added after hearing of Teddyâs fianceâs worries. Although he couldnât shake the sudden guilt that assaulted him. Chuckling awkwardly, the Justice Leaguer nodded firmly when Teddy stated he loved the gift anyway. At least there was that to ease him.
At the Young Avenegerâs words, he smiled widely. He was a good man, regardless of age, full of life with a good head on his shoulders. It made him proud to know the next generation was full with young men and women such as Teddy Altman. âThank you,â Clark replied to his words of hope and obvious commitment. âIâd love to tag along sometime,â he offered with a smile. He had heard plenty of the Young Avengers himself, and would be excited working with them.
âSometimes,â the Kryptonian answered with a laugh. He loved to fly, it was a freedom he had never experienced before.. And it had taken him so long to realize all he was capable of⌠It had been like a gift. âGotta admit though, its freeing.â
âOf course. Donât worry sir, Iâm pretty resilient.â He says with a grin, though he knows to be careful anyway. He might heal pretty quickly thanks to his abilities but he doesnât exactly want to get hurt just because of that. Besides, he knows how much it would make Billy worry.
âWait, really?â He asks in surprise. He knows the Young Avengers are good at what they do - they werenât always, but they worked hard at it and made sure they could hold their own. But the idea that Superman wants to tag along and see how they work is pretty amazing itself. Thereâs so many heroes out there, so many different teams and people he probably knows, and he canât help but feel in awe of the fact that he thinks of them that way. âThatâd be amazing, sir! Iâm sure the team would love to have you there - well, when weâre all together again at least.â
He grins and nods his head quickly in agreement. âItâs an amazing feeling, thatâs for sure. I donât think Iâd trade it for anything.â
The Kryptonian smiled widely, his hand gripping at the younger male's shoulder with affection. "I'd be honored," he admitted before his hand fell back to his side. They were amazing people, and the Justice Leaguer felt proud of all those beings outhtere fighting the same fight he did. Even if he never even knew their names.
Noticing the Hulkling kept calling him 'sir', Clark smiled awkwardly. "Kal, please," he insisted with a smile. When he heard the Young Avenger mention the team wasn't all together at the moment, the Kryptonian nodded. He had already met with a few of his teammates, but many were still missing. "We're working on it. If you were need anything, count on me."

She turned, and Clark Kent felt a heavy boulder come off his shoulders as their gazes met. In the flesh, standing before him, was his world. âLois!â He exclaimed with a wide smile as he met her up. Clark wrapped his arms around his fiance in a loving embrace, burying his face into her neck and taking in her sent. For the first time since he had arrived to year 1973, Clark felt at peace.
âHow did you get here?â The Kryptonian asked after a moment, managing to force himself to pull away. âYou do know where you are, right?â He asked, worry visible in his face. He scanned her, looking for any wounds or signs of a concussion. âWe are in Westchester, New York. Year 1973,â explained, his hand holding hers.
âClark!â This time, the redheadâs recitation of his name was much more of an affirmation rather than a question. As soon as her eyes met her fianceâs blue orbs, Loisâ heels clicked down the hallway as she took off running towards him. Almost immediately, she felt at ease and that was only amplified as Clark took her into his arms. Lois held onto him, her head nestled right against his.Â
âTo answer your first question,â she murmured. âNo idea. To answer your second⌠No idea.â Lois felt like she was in prime condition, but Clark could see beyond her exterior for any internal damage and she was willing to let him. It was a perk of being engaged to a man with x-ray vision. âYouâre kidding me.â
When the answers to his questions were both the same, Clark smiled widely, a soft chuckle escaping him. She seemed completely fine, which put the Man of Steel at ease. Visibly relaxing, he kept his gaze fixated on hers. After filling her in on their current location, Clark allowed it to sink in. Taking the pause to admire her, his gaze narrowed. He wondered how she managed to deal with it all. To keep herself feisty, grounded and strongheaded regardless of what was thrown at her. "Yea... Well, remember that Justice League top secret mission I was talking about?" Clark asked, his words rushed, knowing damn well he had barely even mentioned it. After all, he didnt want to worry her. "I kinda came willingly... Kind of an accident too... Its a long story." Clark gave his finace an awkward, apologetic smile.
"Everything seems fine," Clark told Lois, an attempt at changing the subject. "We've been staying here. At Charles Xavier's manor... I don't know if you remember him? He's a professor in our timeline. I have a room, you can settle in, we can get something to eat or drink in the kitchen? I'll fill you in on current events?" The Kryptonian offered, wrapping an arm over her shoulders.
bringthemhope:
Clark shook his head, chuckling as he was called a leader in such manner. He truly cheerished Hal and their friendship. âIâm blessed and grateful I have you all,â Clark admitted with a smile after hearing the Lanternâs words on his parents.
As the conversation shifted, and they began to speak on their current status, the Kryptonianâs features became more serious. He listened to his comrade closely, nodding solemnly. When faced with Halâs question, Clark sighed. âIâm not sure what to think,â he confessed. His senses did a quick scan of the area and the closest heartbeat Clark was able to pinpoint was far enough to make their conversation private.
âHowever, it is very possible something rather sinister is going on back home. Most of these visitors were pulled here by force, or so it seems. We are being looked at as monsters and threats to humanity which gave birth to the Registration Act a little earlier than expectedâŚ. Not to mention the growing hatred towards us⌠Doesnât it seemed rather convenient for our enemies?â He asked, looking into Halâs eyes. âThink about it, Hal. Doesnt it seem like somebody is deliberately trying to rewrite history?â
Hal smiled nodding his head, heâd always loved being around Clark just something about his natural good nature was amazing. â Aww big blue your gonna make me cry with all that kind words â
He could feel the shift within the other just as his own feelings and features shifted to a more serious note. He had hoped nothing sinister was going to happen â me either, I hope nothing evil is going on, yet with all of us disappearing it is a bit discerningâ He looked up at Clark wondering if helping save the timeline could affect anything else that could happen in the future.
â Well some have come here willingly maybe thatâs a bit of a sign that not all things are bad Clark. Still it doesnât seem like we are coming out great no matter what we do. The hatred for Mutants is stronger than anything Iâve seen in my life. And since we stand with them we have been seen as a problem. It does its almost like we can win no matter what. I donât like feeling this way, no one deserves such hate and history could be getting further muddle up due to superheroâs being added to this list of people that must be contained and watched.â
Hal's words did little to settle the growing suspicions and worries within the Kryptonian. Sure some had travelled willingly--Bruce and himself were perfect examples of such. But... What if that had been what gave their enemies the idea? What if they noticed what the superheroes intentions were and decided to simply shoot most superheroes into the past to overwhelm and rewrite history? "I don't know, Hal... Its just a feeling... He had sensed her, and as he did, tears threatened to fall down his cheeks. As Clark made his way to his cousin, a smile spread over his lips. As his gaze settled on the back of her head, he heard her speak up, and the smile simply grew. âSuper is good though, and so are your senses,â he replied, taking a seat next to Kara. âIâm happy to see you, Kara,â Clark admitted.
Kara was quick to shift over, making space for her cousin so he could join her on the front step. âSuper is the best,â she replied with a smile, reaching out to give his arm a squeeze, the teasing words meant to compliment him. âIâm happy to see you too, Clark - itâs been far too long.â Her gaze shifted from the man to the front gates, a soft sigh escaping her. âWhat do you make of this entire situation?â
As her hand wrapped around his arm, his own hand gripped affectionately at hers. The smile didn't even weakened, at least not until she asked his opinion on their current situation. it is easy to desire heroes in this world. it is easy to want a giant âaâ in the sky to mark those who avenge us. it is easy to want a bat or an alien or an amazon to fight for the justice we all want served. but it is easier to forget : we all have a hero in ourselves. we all have the power to love. we all have the ability to be selfless.

what would you do if zod appeared in 1973?
âThats difficult.. Iâm not truly sure, I guess. Although it is better if he doesnât. General Zod was a a bloodthirsty conqueror, a ruthless fanatic. He lived for one single reason: rebuilding Krypton. We donât need a merciless massmurderer running around.â
would you ever sign the registration act?
âNo, I wouldnât,â he stated firmly. âNever will.â
