Not everyone who works in the firearms industry is a gun enthusiast or a pro-gun nutjob.
I will admit, I myself used to be guilty of this assumption, which got me thinking: If I have that assumption, there are probably others out there who also have it.
This little commentary is just me setting the record straight, in case anyone with that assumption sees this.
I work in the office of an arms dealer, and a respected one that deals globally, mainly through e-commerce. Of the 15-20 people I work with, only two even own a firearm, and they rarely use it or take it anywhere. Most are just here because it’s a good, secure job, and they were hired for their skills in certain areas of operating a business. Also, it’s a very laid-back atmosphere at the office, and everyone is friendly, which makes for a positive outlook on working there.
But perhaps most important (to me, anyway) is the fact that this arms dealer gave a job to a legally blind autistic woman when nowhere else would. That speaks volumes about a business, especially in this day and age.
Of course, no one here is extremely anti-gun, but nor are they extremely pro-gun. For many of them, the only reason they support guns is because the fate of their job is tied to the firearms industry. This was the reason, at least the one I was told, that the owner of the company voted for Trump, because he was not pushing anti-gun action.
I personally respect a person’s Constitutional right to keep and bear arms, but I also agree that assault or military style weapons should not be available to the public. I also believe handgun owners should be required to go through continuous training with the weapon, just as law enforcement is required to do (obviously, it would be self defense training as opposed to law enforcement training to apprehend criminals). Finally, I’ll just point out that no matter how many regulations are put on legal gun ownership and legal gun sales, there will always be illegal paths as well as those who follow them. If they want it bad enough and can’t get it legally, they’ll do it illegally.
I’ll close by once again stating that not everyone who works in the firearms industry is a wacko. Some are just there because it’s a decent job and a pleasant place to work.
Thank you to those who took the time to actually read this whole post.
