Briar grow up poor in. She is the youngest of the O'Connor siblings and always had her older brother and sister to take care of her.
The family didn't have much, they struggled for money and her dad worked multiple jobs just to put food on the table for the family.
Her mother left the family when she was 4 years old, she didnāt give an explanation to her dad and never got in touch again.
Growing up without a mother eventually got the better of Briar, she hated going to parties and seeing girls her age with their mothers, hated not being able to join in on talks in school with her friends about their mothers and when she hit her teens its when her family really saw the difference in her behaviour.
Despite her bitterness towards some, In school she was popular, she got on well with almost everybody and never went out of her way to purposely upset anybody.. but when you did something to piss her off she made it known. Sure, she didnāt get along with a few but it was never anything major in her eyes.
TW DRUGS & ALCOHOL:Ā She became quite the party girl, she was 17 and her dad was concerned for a while but that didnāt stop her from doing what she was doing. She was drinking, taking drugs and would often wake up not in her own bed.
Briar became very emotionally detached from a lot of people. She became careless, men often fell for her but to her she couldn't care less. She would get what she wanted and leave.
She has only had 2 long term relationships and both ended sour because they often felt as though she didn't care, she didn't love them, they were tired of the lack of communication etc.

the upset felt contagious as it didn't take long for emmeline's eyes to be welling up. clearing her throat, the woman's brow sunk into a deep frown. "it's frightening..." when the unknown was concerned, the brain decided to fill in the blanks with the worst possible situation. "i know, i know she didn't." she wanted to put her arms out to make contact with the other but was holding back - she herself wasn't necessarily a fan of it when she was upset. "just... make sure you lock everything up at night." though, the woman was reaching unhealthy levels of doing that. "whoever's done this... they could still be here."
knoiwing her best friends funeral was approaching it just made everything so much more worse. they didn't have answers, they didn't get that closure just yet.. or if ever. they were burrying her without knowing why anybody would ever do this. "do you think?" she paused for a moment before opening her mouth again to continue. "do you really think they could hurt more people?" she knew that emmeline didn't have the answers but there was something calming about emmeline's presence for her right now.
Freddie knows grief. It has made itself home in his chest, it has consumed him from the inside out. He has allowed it to gut him out and chip away at the person he was - and yet he canāt reach out and tell one of his best friends that he feels her grief. That he understands. He canāt, because that would mean admitting to the reality of his life. And heās not ready for that. Heās not ready to accept a life without his sister, or without his mother.
So he will continue to pretend it didnāt happen, that everything is as it was. He will continue being a friend attempting, pretending, to understand her grief. Thereās a small smile as he looks it over, ignoring the bile that rises in his throat at the thought of a memorial tattoo. ā I think itās really pretty, B. ā and itās honest, despite the desire to look at the floor. ā and i promise its not tacky. ā
"i think she'd laugh about it." a forced smile on her face as she talks about sydney, a topic still so sensitive right now. "she'd tell me i was dumb for it for sure." it still felt surreal to talk about her in the past tense. a feeling briar was strungling to shake. she just wanted to pick up her phone and call sydney and this be a big prank that they could laugh about but that was just not the reality here.
and right on queue she felt a lump in her throat once more. an aching feeling she was so tired of feeling at the moment. she wanted peace, she wanted this to be over, better yet she wanted it to be a misunderstanding. she wanted it to be a nightmare she could wake up from. "why the fuck would anybody do this?"
emmeline hummed as she focused in on it. "it's not tacky, no." it wouldn't have been her choice but people grieved in different ways. "it shows how important she is to you, nothing tacky about that." the woman was talking like she hadn't seen sydney grow up but she was feeling so disconnected, especially with her husband being away for a couple of days on business. really, she could have done with him here now, they all could have but it must have also hit him very hard.
feeling the lump in her throat appear, a feeling that she was unfortunately getting used to at the moment. briar rolled her eyes back in an attempt to keep the tears from streaming down her face. she was so tired of crying. "why would anybody do this? she never hurt anybody. i just.. i don't get it. nothing makes sense, em."
lifting her wrist to get a closer look once more briar pursed her lips before letting out a deep sigh. "this really, really, sucks." it was an understatement but she really couldn't find anymore words to describe the situation. "i should be getting a matching tattoo with her as best friends not something in her memory."

"What do you think?" Briar held out her wrist with her latest fresh tattoo in honour of her best friend. "Do you think she'd like it? Is it tacky? Please don't say it's tacky.. it's kinda too late if it is." Briar looked exhsausted, she'd not been getting much sleep but who could really blame her with the recent events?
