emmeline was born in england, an only child in a middle upper class family that longed to belong to the upper class bracket and they would get there despite their daughter's tendencies. emmeline was an emotional child - one thing going wrong would make her cry but her mother told her to stop being so dramatic and her father would just ignore her. she always thought that she got on better with him because of his logical nature but that never transpired into much of a relationship because he kept her at arms length x2.

although she was emotional, emmeline did have friends in her younger years. she seemed close to them but for some reason, after they stayed the night, they never wanted to see her again. then when she got over it was relationships. em would have amazing boyfriends (for the standard that teenage boys could be) but it was always her own mother telling them about how she was dangerous and not worth their time - she was sabotaging her. hadn't she always wanted for her to do well? when it came to light, em had some sort of breakdown but her mother kept her off school for a few days and told her... to stop being dramatic.

she did have a record as being too intense in relationships, trying too hard only to accidentally blow it all up herself. it was partly her but the characters who she was attracted true proved to not be good for her (the clinginess would get to them straight off).

after leaving school, she studied french and spanish, later to become a translator and interpreter. she would go on to become quite commendable in her field. it was an university where she met mr. love. he wasn't her type at all and they'd first clashed at university at a party with mutual friends. everyone joked that they would end up together and emmeline herself didn't believe it... that was exactly what happened.

whilst they argued, he liked her challenging nature and they'd be up for hours just talking. whilst it was the trend for her to do the chasing, this time she held out (not wanting to repeat past behaviours) and he had been the one to pursue her. however, it did get a bit heated during their final year, with emmeline not doing the best mentally. a breakdown coincided with a bad trip and he'd been the one to call an ambulance. she lost most of her friends that night with her behaviour but not him.

mr. love would stay by her side, they would graduate university and she'd move to the states with him - it wasn't like she had much left for her in england. her mother's frosty goodbye with her only proved it was the right choice. the two were thick as thieves but had drifted apart over the past couple of years.

emmeline didn't really want to move to hidehill but he wanted to be close to his family and it wasn't like she could fight hi on that one - they had welcomed her (minus one or two who got 'off vibes' from her) so perhaps small town life would force her to be more acquainted with them and they'd settle together.

although they'd moved here for him, it felt like she saw even less and less of him. he did travel a lot with work (finance bro) but she couldn't be against that. she had become freelance so didn't have an office herself (further isolating her). she moved to hidehill for him so why did it feel they were farther apart than they ever had been?

there had been a notion that he was having an affair - he was secretive, snappy with her at times so she backed off. she doesn't feel like she had confront him - what if she's wrong and her own paranoid nature causes her entire marriage to implode just when she's attempting to salvage it?

the news in relation to sydney did come as a real shock. tales like that were a great fear of emmeline's - the stuff of her nightmares (literally...) but sydney? she still had so much life to live. she wasn't familiar with the town's history until sydney's death that reminded everyone what happened to hayley solano. maybe she wouldn't have moved here but bad things like this did happen in the city... perhaps because everything was so small, suffocating, that it felt more like a threat.

although he's trying to be there for his family, her husband seems to be gone too much still and that's leaving her quite isolated. she hates it when he's gone for work... in the house by herself, same neighbourhood as his family, a one that was meant to be safe but now feels far from it. she used to love runs to and along the lake but doesn't feel like she can even go there.
