The amount of people that do not understand that the English concept album for the Death Note musical was a concept album and that no Rem does not have an uptempo love song in the actual show is pissing me off. Yeah, it’s not as gay as the concept version, that’s because it’s not about her being in love with Misa, it’s about the fact that she is choosing to die for Misa. And, sure, it would be cool if it was more explicitly queer, but that was never the point of the song or that moment in the show and the concept album was only created to pitch the Japanese and Korean productions so that version and lyrics of the song was only ever a placeholder. The show isn’t taking a step back you just never looked at any version other than the concept album so you can’t get pissy about it being “rewritten” when that was always going to happen when we got an English version because the concept album misses significant story beats and moments that are conveyed through song.
