Azriel gives the same necklace to two women, with very different motivations.

In the first case, he gives it to Elain, and he gives it to her intending Elain to know it's from him. He gives it to her in a romantically charged moment. Later, as Rhys questions Azriel's interest in Elain, a hint of entitlement emerges. A part of him thinks he is being cheated, not being bonded to the third Archeron sister.

“She shrugged again, irreverently. Az narrowed his eyes, studying her. “Do you, though?” she pressed. “Sing?” Azriel couldn’t help his soft chuckle. “Yes.”

“Azriel entered the warmth of the stairwell, and as he descended, he could have sworn a faint, beautiful singing followed him. Could have sworn his shadows sang in answer.”
