“I love when that happens to me as a viewer, when I’m able to look at one image and it triggers something in my brain and I follow some strange train of thought out into who knows where, and eventually make my way all the way back to the movie that we’re watching [that’s] still the same shot. I wanted this movie to be a vehicle for that kind of experience.”

When I was little and we used to move all the time, I’d write these notes. And I’d fold them up really small, and I would hide them. What did they say? They were just things I wanted to remember so that if I ever wanted to go back, there’d be a piece of me there waiting for me.

A writer writes a novel, a songwriter writes a song. We do what we can to endure. We build our legacy piece by piece and maybe the whole world will remember you or maybe just a couple of people but… you do what you can to make sure you’re still around after you’re gone.
