About a week ago, my Aunt Nancy announced that she was pregnant via a Facebook photo of her holding a Preggo sauce jar. It garnered over 100 likes and some 20 comments—all well-wishers congratulating her on her incoming baby. It then occurred to me how bizarre the whole act was. Our society--while we shirk away from people sharing stories about their sex lives (well, most of us anyways)--we laud those who have sex when that tiny little sperm manages to find and penetrate a tiny little egg. That one atomically small act (literally) makes all the difference. “Congratulations! Your spermies finally found an egg! What a swimmer you've got there.”
