the tea had barely touched the coffee table before leon looked up at you. he'd been wrapped in the same blanket since morning, a box of tissues beside him and an empty one discarded on the floor. his nose was red, his hair was a mess, and he looked completely convinced he was on death's door.

"i think this is it, honey," he rasped, his voice full of exaggerated misery. "tell the president i fought bravely."

a sneeze cut him off before he could continue, and he reached for another tissue with a tired groan.

you smiled to yourself as you brushed his hair away from his forehead, your hand lingering there for a moment before moving to his cheek. he turned his head into the touch, letting out a heavy sigh as his eyes slipped closed.

❥ He falls into little habits without realizing it. His hand always seems to find yours, he naturally walks a little closer to you, and if you’re sitting together, he’ll end up resting against you before long.

❥ He loves quiet affection more than anything. Sitting with you while you read, watching a movie with your legs tangled together, or simply existing in the same room is enough to make him feel at peace.

❥ He notices the smallest things. If you mention liking a certain snack once, he’ll remember. If you’ve had a rough day, he’ll see it before you even say anything, and he’ll stay close without pushing you to talk.

❥ He’s the kind of person who quietly takes care of you. He’ll make your coffee while you’re still waking up, hand you his jacket before you have the chance to say you’re cold, or make sure your phone is charged if he knows you’re heading out.

❥ Leon isn’t overly clingy, but after a long day, he’ll always end up looking for you. Resting his head against yours, wrapping an arm around your waist, or holding you for a few extra minutes becomes the easiest way for him to let go of everything else.

❥ He loves having you close while he’s doing ordinary things. If he’s cooking, you’ll probably end up leaning against the counter while he works. If he’s reading or watching TV, there’s always room for you beside him, or on his lap if that’s where you decide to be.

❥ He doesn’t say “I love you” every hour, but somehow you never have to wonder. It’s in the way he waits for you to get inside before driving away, remembers the little things that make you smile, and reaches for you without thinking whenever you’re nearby.

❥ He’s gentle in ways people wouldn’t expect. After everything he’s been through, there’s something incredibly soft about the way he holds you, like he’s making sure you’ll always feel safe in his arms.

❥ He values comfortable silence. Some of his favorite moments are the ones where neither of you is talking, you’re both doing your own thing, yet somehow it still feels like you’re spending time together.

❥ Being with you slowly teaches him how to relax. He starts sleeping a little better when you’re beside him, smiling a little more often, and for the first time in a long while, the future doesn’t feel quite so heavy.
