The crossroads mention, the idea that they've had time apart and come back together and are still actively choosing each other, the idea that regardless of or even despite the lovers archetype they are still actively finding joy in each other and choosing each other. They can find peace in knowing they will, after everything, end up at each other's side. The fact that this song acknowledges that they spent time apart and maybe even got worse because of it but are not to blame, the acknowledgement of not always appreciating each other when they had each other but what matters is they're there now.
