tadc spoilers cuz its time for me to bitch again (THIS HAS HEAVY SPOILERS)
so I've seen people say that that Jax should still be referred to as he/him because "[she's] not ready to be out of the closet yet"
And while I do believe that may (keyword: may) be true Leeroy since we see him still identify as male, even though I also see him exploring a little (which is why I'm using he/him pronouns when referring to him). I think after the events with his absuive mother, it scared him back into the closet and needs more time to find that comfort to come back out again.
But we've also seen Pomni refer to herself as someone different from her human counterpart, Elizabeth, stating that in the circus, she's "just Pomni." We've also seen plenty of evidence that the digital counterparts represent the deep-seeded insecurities/trauma (at least, that's how I interpret it), and I believe that Jax is a representation of Leeroy's desire to be transfem, Leeroy just isn't comfortable to face that desire again yet.
Jax, however, is different. She literally *is* what's hidden inside Leeroy, the part that *wants* to come out, the part that wants to explore with feminine outfits and attitudes, but that trauma is also stuck onto that digital counterpart, causing her to be so chaotically frustrated.

I've also seen people continue to headcanon Jax as transmasculine because they see themselves as Jax. And before I say this, I am a genderfluid person with a transmasc identity attached.
I don't want to be someone who wants to tell people what to do and what to find comfort in, especially if it has to do with fictional characters. However, I still think it's important to see a transfem person in media when she appears. Trans people as a whole need to appear more in media, whether they're transfem, trans masc, nonbinary, etc etc. I know these people probably don't mean any real harm, and I really don't want to encourage harassment and dogpiling, but this is still Goose's story, and Goose herself said that Jax is her self insert. As a trans person myself, I see this as a trans person's story of leaving behind who she once was in pursuit of who she is now. I really feel like we should respect that.
In no way is this me saying that transfems are more important than transmascs, the opposite isn't true either. Every trans person is equally important *because* they are trans. That representation of us is just as important too. I feel like seeing Jax as transfem is important acknowledgement to what her story is. I do feel kind of bad saying this because if someone transmasc wants to see himself in Jax, I think that's great for his own personal comfort material. It just doesn't feel good to me to see Jax's canon identity changed - it almost feels like an erasure of that transfem representation.
Again, please don't harass people. If you see something you don't like, please just block. The dogpiling I'm seeing is getting super annoying when this is something we should be celebrating.
Oh, and if you're only referring to Jax as he/him because you either find her hotter as a guy or you like her better in "hetero" ships, fuck you ❤️ go find a real factory-made tumblr sexyman to slobber over.

Okay I think this is the last I'm gonna ramble about transfem Jax, I need to make more artwork and write stuff. Maybe I'll make a yuri funnybunnydoll fic on ao3 or sumn (ignoring the fact that I have a tadc au fanfic that is horrifically unfinished...)
TADC spoilers under the cut, a ramble about a specific scene lots of people are talking about
A lot of people, myself included, were a bit confused at the abrupt nature of Jax's abstraction. We didn't see it; one shot he was there and the next he was a large, glitching mess.
But the more I thought about it, the more it makes sense. When it comes to suicide, you don't see it. One day the person is there, and the next they're gone. It's not something public and grand; it's a private, dark moment.
And it makes sense why Zooble was mad, saying "he waited until now to do it". And why Gangle couldn't cry for him immediately, but let it out days later. And why Pomni wished she had done more. Grief is a complex thing that never shows up the same way for two people.
Zooble represents the people who are angry at the people who commit. There's never a good time to die, and they cope by blaming Jax because it's easier.
Gangle represents the numbness that can come with grieving, and how some people fall apart days, months, or even years after the fact. Especially since they had such a complex relationship with a lot of harm. You're allowed to grieve for someone who hurt you.
Pomni wished she could do more, even though she constantly reached out and was there for Jax. You can't help someone who doesn't want help. And when someone dies, you're always second-guessing every interaction, replaying conversations and thinking "if I said something different" or "if I did something different".
In short, after thinking on it, I really love how brutally realistic Jax's abstraction was. It shows different types of grief, how different people cope, and how sudden and abrupt it can be.
Griffin McElroy put it best during the TAZ: Balance DND campaign: "When someone leaves your life, those exits are not made equal. Some are beautiful and poetic and satisfying. Others are abrupt and unfair. But most are just unremarkable, unintentional, clumsy."
