analyzing (most of) whiteout's lines
first time she actually speaks: "Are you the dragon my brother's been waiting for?" (pg. 101) normal line, but does mean she knows clearsight is important in darkstalker's, and therefore her own, life
"I thought the marbles represented chaos theory and I was just another unpredictable whim of the universe... I did not intend to disrupt your faith in controllable outcomes." (pg. 105) mostly just laying out whiteout's unique way of thinking, but does match up with darkstalker's description of her later on that she doesn't necessarily think of herself as an individual as much as other dragons, more that she is a piece of a whole. in this case the whole being the universe
"Did you?... Yell at me?" (pg. 105) bit oblivious, kind of implied airheaded-ness, but possible she's just focused on other things
"Shes exactly right... definitely azure on the inside. I like the way she knits." (pg. 168) whiteout likes clearsight. not sure if there's any color theory attached to the color azure, but it is a shade of blue, which is the color whiteout uses to represent her family, so could be insinuating that clearsight will fit right in with them. or, with how she connects emotions with colors, maybe "azure" is how she describes dragons she trusts. with how much future timelines are compared with threads, clearsight's "knitting" is probably how she follows specific timelines to get to the "good" ones. might mean whiteout's preferred future aligns with clearsight's instead of darkstalker's. or at least, she likes clearsight's decisions
"Magic brother... That's all right; He's not going to snow for a while." (pg. 168) snow = getting cold, hardening himself and pushing his emotions down. she knows it will be a while before darkstalker has any kind of emotional breakdown. maybe she even saw a timeline where darkstalker shared his pain with clearsight instead of hiding it, leading to something else setting him off down the line
"She's going to eat her tongue." (pg. 169) funny way of saying "eat her words" or something similar
"I had an apple like that once." (pg. 170) comparing arctic to an apple, doesn't say it was a rotten apple though, so she agrees with darkstalker that he's not all bad. she might even see more good in arctic than darkstalker does since they don't hate each other the way he and arctic do
"Only stripes" (pg. 170) a whiteout joke? or just another manifestation of her describing things weirdly, like emotions with colors? do patterns represent states of mind to her?
"You're the one going into the wild." (pg. 175) perhaps, like clearsight, whiteout knows how having lots of dragons in one place makes things unpredictable and wild.
"The hole is too big,... We're going to fall into it forever." (pg. 249) the hole is the grief, and darkstalker definitely fell into his grief forever. he never got over losing foeslayer, and since he never talked about it with clearsight he also probably never talked about it with whiteout either, meaning she didn't get any kind of closure either
"Only one of us will,... Depending on who loses the future." (pg. 249) only one of the siblings will get to see foeslayer again (we know it's darkstalker). "who loses the future" might be foresight, with darkstalker "losing" the future by not being able to see past getting trapped, or not being able to participate in the immediate future (because of getting trapped)
"In this turn of the hourglass, yes,... But when I crush you with my heart piece, then everything flips." (pg. 281) pretty normal whiteout talk. "you may be winning right now but when i get your piece with my piece i'll be winning"
"WINNER! ... Empress of all scales and queen of all squares! Weep for your tokens, adversaries!" (pg. 283) don't remember any other declarations of victory of a board game in wings of fire, so this might not be all that weird. she's not a humble winner though
"Oh,... Look how shiny you are." (pg. 283) thoughtful did some jewelry, but more likely she's looking into his mind or future and thinks he's interesting
"You made the Cascade of Dreams,...Words and glass, spun flutes and verse. Waterfalls of language in fire-blown claws." (pg. 283) her description of the art thoughtful made, he says himself there's words hidden in the waves of it, which is pretty much what whiteout is saying
"Tangerine,... Probability. Spelunking." (pg. 283) with how whiteout seems to use colors to describe emotions sometimes, tangerine might be the color of her falling in love. probability of certain timelines coming to fruition? i have seen theories that spelunking might refer to exploring the volcano island, but it could also be referring to darkstalker going (being pushed) into the cave where he was buried maybe? or dragons years later exploring the abandoned city, like the sandwings who stole their treasure (including one of the dreamvisitors)
"I think you should teach me glassblowing,... and I should teach you clarity." (pg. 284) getting to know each other through they hobbies, how cute. don't know if thoughtful has any powers, if he does whiteout could be offering to help him interpret things differently. guess she could do that even if he doesn't have powers though
"Amazing,... You're going to die of awe." (pg. 284) she's good at scroll-stacking, whatever that is. again, she is not very humble
"I'll stay with him,... Protect him from angry spirits." (pg. 288) angry spirits could be anything from bad thoughts to royal guards itching to arrest someone. probably just bad thoughts, interesting way to describe them though. does that mean anything for whiteout's way of thinking, does she think bad thoughts come from outside (angry spirits) instead of inside (emotions)?
"It's too late. The sand is falling." (pg. 321) maybe possibly darkstalker snowing like she said earlier? but snow =/= sand, and of everything in this book is most connected to the soul-reader, so i'll say it's the sand falling from the black side to the white side, representing darkstalker's descent into "evilness"
"I'm grateful to be unfrozen,... But I'm sorry for winning." (pg. 321) almost definitely referring to "who loses the future". she wins, so she won't see foeslayer again, while darkstalker will. does that mean she saw a future where she herself somehow was the one that got sleep-spelled and woke up 2000 years later, thus being able to see foeslayer again? would queen diamond have put the same spell on her as foeslayer, just to spite arctic?
