i'm currently up to ralph's episode, but i don't want to watch it just yet because i don't want the show to end :(

#it's surprising to see that everyone wishes that there were an epilogue episode (to wrap up the story better)#it's so much fun having these little story arc episodes from each character's perspective #but i loved simon's story arc the most i want to protect the hermit boy #his diary was just filled up with stories of jack !! simon trying to psychoanalyse pre-island jack is so good #it was also interesting that simon was the inspiration behind the flint knife and therefore the spears of the hunters #perhaps the burning of his diary helped with hiding his secrets and getting rid of a past version of jack that no longer exists

makeup department COOKED with jacks makeup because wdym you have to manage his facepaint as well as his scratches and burns and how they have to HEAL throughout the episodes. this is in 1 episode alone. please note how he does his disguise for conformity vs his disguise when simon does it for him vs when he chooses to do his own. which is blue eyeshadow. from a womans suitcase. also note how he is on the verge of crying in half of these

#this is the face of a boy that has seen some dark shit #the exploration of identity is insane with this bbc version (which completely goes against with how conservative the bbc normally is lol)#i really love how they play with jack's hair in this one too !! they let his curls go wild !! despite it not being the right hair colour #and yet when he goes into hunter mode they slick back his hair and it makes jack appear more menacing #it's a shame that they didn't put the dark mud into his hair #the dark blue eyeshadow !! he is blinded by darkness / consumed by dark thoughts? perhaps acting as deep bruising underneath his eyes #but the blue shade really does bring out the blue of his eyes !! so pretty and intimidating #lotf #bbc

are we going to talk about how jacks mask is a WEDDING VEIL?? specifically a juliet cap???? named after hit shakespeare play romeo and juliet?????

#it was so iconic the introduction of the feminine wardrobe - almost playing dress up or make pretend with slightly gay undertones #and yet transforming those articles of clothing into a key role of identity #the fact that jack can still see through the beaded veil is insane !! but i love that he still wears it throughout #he is like a vengeful bride on the prowl and looking for his better half but wanting to conquer them also #the scene where he pulls up the veil after blindly attacking simon AND his expression / moment of realisation afterwards? my god so good #lotf #bbc
