I had not clocked Shelby was also cooking until people more tuned into them than me broke it down in a way that clicked and that lets you appreciate just how isolated she truly is despite being the friendly one calling for truce. You know what is? He was also doing inventory storytelling which I was paying way too much attention to (UHCG,, haunting me). The first time he ever crafts a stake is ep3 and it's for abolish, for the first 4 sessions he carries 2 full rows of pre-crafted regen soup + ingredients, anytime there's an oxeye daisy in eyesight and he's not otherwise engaged in a too serious to stray from encounter he grabs it, after 4 he starts carrying just a single pre-crafted in the hotbar and ingredients, after abolish gives that speech about it being time to fight in 7 he finally switches it out for a stake.. things that murder me

# The victorian era was my specialty for my degree # specifically cultural history of England # and in my opinion # placing VSMP any earlier than 1880 is a mistake “humans are naturally good” would have been very controversial in the 1830s and 1840s because that is an idea that started appearing around # 1850s # the concept of Privacy as we know it # especially between family # was something that came into being in the mid-century # so the vamps trying to make their own rooms in Castle is pretty indicative of that # nobility would of course want their own space but early victorian working class would not even conceive of it also going into Drift's detective agencu # private detectives weren't a thing really in the early part of the victorian era # i mean they WERE but not like you think of now # it was more like “the police aren't doing a good job. can I hire you and your thugs to go beat up this guy?” private investigators got ARRESTED for doing their thing # it wasn't until the mid-century that it started to become an actual THIN Legs is super fixated on clean surgery space which the benefit of washing hands wasn't even confirmed until 1859 # and it wasn't widely accepted practice until later # like the guy who published the book on it in 1861 was openly mocked and thrown in an insane asylum where he died in 1865 # it wasn't until germ theory was developed that the practice saw actual acceptance # like Doc could just be a weirdo for that # but also Martyn had a strong reaction to being cut up in a dirty place for his twisted ankle in episode 1 # and I think Cleo? maybe? said something about Oakhurst being dirty for surgery? I understand that the corruption may have come from the realm of storms, and I suppose that counts as biological warfare. But it's not armed conflict or anything. You don't need soldiers to cure a plague.

or is it more like the realm of summer is anticipating fighting? like they expect the realm of storms to attack later (maybe if the corruption doesn't wipe out the realm of summer on its own)? or maybe the realm of summer is planning on invading the realm of storms (in retaliation?) and that's why they need soldiers? for their own attack?

Since then the Summer government has dedicated a lot of effort into villainizin the Storm Realm through propaganda, orchestratin literal book burnins for texts like “Symbiosis” that depict the storm ravens as natural allies of dragons and unrelated to the corruption, and then later defamin them as “carriers” of the corruption and all Storm Realm civilians as “mad cultists that worship the corruption” despite Juniper’s first-hand testimony against that

The “War” that Summer keeps insistin about is really just an attempt at recolonizin the Storm Realm, but they know that won’t sell to prospective soldiers, so they instead sell recruits on “fightin the corruption” and then synonomize in their minds the corruption with the Storm Realm, which is why they’re so insistent on callin the corruption issue a “war” and not the “disaster” it is, they’re tryna normalize militaristic beliefs and decision-makin among new recruits
