I love the idea that Eridian’s have no concept of a “soul” the way humans do, and don’t really have a similar cultural touch point. Mostly bc I love the idea that Rocky learns the term “soulmate” and is now doing everything to reverse engineer how that can be possible between him and Grace.
Anyways after a cultural and theological rabbit hole that was less informative then he would like, Rocky finally asks Grace about it and Grace is like “well, Rock, I don’t think they exsist, it’s just a way for anxious humans to cope with the unknowns of life.” To which Rocky internally is like, Alright to I gotta figure out how to TWO people who don’t have souls can be soul mates. Got it
They get to Erid and Rocky is like “we are Soulmates and if you seperate us it would literally kill Grace. Who is already dying as we speak. And also it would be soooo culturally insensitive to all of humanity and thus the alien who helped save our stars. :/“
Some time later when Grace is more recovered he’s talking to some of his health team like “:) it’s nice you guys let me spend all this time with Rocky in my biodome despite all of the various things you likely need him for” the whole team is like”??? Uh yeah. Of course, We don’t want you to die???” and Grace is like haha what :) -> *medteam relays what Rocky said* -> “HE SAID WHAT.”

This is a placeholder for basically any of serenfire's fics; grace pretty, rocky stare and rocky curious too are also all-timers! But while both of those fics are fantastic, I can't not put the main spotlight on the world's least convincing pirate roleplay. The perfect example of writing two characters who love each other and are absolute saps and have never stopped arguing literally once in their life.
"Yes," says Rocky scaldingly, pouncing on the moment of indecision. "I do much for you and your sweaty, leaky body and get no appreciation, just requests. 'What if it taste like pizza? Oh, Rocky, Rocky, come to monitor room, have to show you beach again so you can understand full importance of margarita!' Well, since Grace not taking brainstorming meeting seriously, why not continue to make contraption to make Grace sweat and leak all over himself more?"

Grace's first taste-test of me-burger, taken to the best possible extremes. grimark is another author whose fics could just be the whole list. This fic is the example because there's a line in here (that I won't put as the below line, to preserve the joy of discovery) that I'm pretty sure is the most *gunshot sound* line in PHM fic history. You'll know it when you see it.

And three in a row; again, spqr physically cannot write a bad fic. The limelight goes to a fic that is, I have to presume, the first erotic use of a belt sander in the history of literature.
"Grace gathers that usually there would be a greater variety of minerals involved; Rocky asks him if he has any charnockite, and then he asks if he has any phyllite, and then he asks, in a tone like he’s rolling his eyes, if Grace has any metamorphic rock of any kind whatsoever on the Hail Mary or if they just shot him into space completely unprepared."

I truly started out with a rule to not include any WIPs on this list, but it's at 4/5 and I couldn't not include it. Rocky's in need of help and it's going to involve chlorine gas, skintight plasticised xenonite, a bunch of Eridian leg spreaders, and everyone being totally normal about what Grace thinks might just be sex. The author's actively produced detailed anatomical diagrams for this fic, because this is the fandom of incisive attention to scientific detail while still being funny as fuck. Example!
"Rocky loves bowling. Rocky is probably a bigger fan of bowling than any human who's ever lived. Given the choice to either teleport Mary to Erid or himself to the nearest Splitsville Lanes, I think Rocky would not only choose Splitsville, but claim it as sovereign Eridian territory and live there. He mimics the moves he sees on tutorials. He hates pro coverage because the commentators talk over the “song of the ball” (I have no idea what this means), and he doesn't even care about scoring. Anytime ball meets pin, Rocky's hopping around squealing “Yes. YES. Kill,” with a glee that maybe slightly concerns me."
