I’m in therapy multiple times a week rn for disordered eating related to sexual assault. Coworker doesn’t know that I’m eating more because of the work we're working through and that the stomach aches are tied more to that, but she does know I’ve been getting help for it. She doesn't know that what she said is what my friend’s parents said to me often after their son would secretly assault me. They thought I was crying only because of the stomach aches. Not that I was in pain AND their son took advantage of the fact that I had to leave dinner early regularly to lie down in paralyzing pain in a room across the house.

She doesn’t know that that phrase was used to shame my parents to me and my siblings, without realizing that yeah my parent’s didn’t feed us… but a whole community of people my parents offloaded us onto did. So the “you don’t eat real food. your parent’s don’t feed you real food” is like??? That family and the others in this community are the ones who make up my diet… Is this a jab at my family for being neglectful and poor, or is this a weird way to brush off that a child is getting a decent diet and is still sick… part of me wonders if they knew what was going on and this statement helped them rationalize how it was my fault that it happened. I can tell they were sick of my parents offloading us onto others, fair. But like what they said made no sense to me as a kid and it doesn’t now. “if you were sick a doctor would say so. so it must just be that you eat bad (even though we’re the ones feeding you)” If I couldn’t say a doctor doagnised me with something that just meant i was attention seeking. The issue is, my parents didn’t take us to the doctor either (even for some broken bones) so like… uhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh. Idk the phrase my coworker used brings up a lot thats not relevant to the convo that came up at work.
