MOD: The one on the left is from an AU where the Indian-subcontinent didn’t divide. So this costume has a much more Indian flare which makes sense as Pakistan and India are right next to each other. The one on the top is M if she was more of a brawler than she is. I just wanted an excuse to put Carol Danver’s signature cloth on her hips (plus those gloves). Last but not least is M from an AU where she never stepped foot in America. This one wears traditional casual wear altered into a super hero costume. Lemme know which one you like! (Also, do tell me if there is something off with the proportions please. I kinda drew these while being high as the Burj friggin Khalifa)

Hey, just discovered your blog and gotta say it's really good! My question is what inspired you to do Kamal khan?

MOD: Glad you asked! I think its a variety of factors. Foremost is that I really wanted to improve my art. Having a blog where people expect a semi periodical post cycle drives me to practice and experiment much more. Eustress, in case you know what that is.

As for why I made our magnificent Ms. M my muse. She’s the character that got me into the idea of the Western super hero.

Let me explain. Before Ms. M, I could never really understand why people found heroes like Superman all that interesting since he was a paragon in almost every way as opposed to flawed characters like Son Goku whose shortcomings were much more apparent.

Sometime after moving to the West from Pakistan, I found out that Super heroes are proxy’s that in a way help people enact wish-fulfillment power fantasies. For example, Spiderman (in his time) was a nerd who gained super powers and went on interesting advetures. Geeks can put themselves in his shoes very easily, enacting fantasies where they too can be powerful. See where I’m getting at? See the link if you wanna know more.

Any who, I never really ‘got’ why this was so effective for other people and chalked it up to Western super heroes not being my cup of tea.That is until, Ms. M made her debut. I picked up the first comic in 2016 or 2017, can’t remember. She’s a kid living in a household with Desi parents. She celebrates Eid. She juggles her identity as a Western and Eastern individual. I’m not saying that flipping through the pages of her book was some sort of transcendent experience. Far from it, I could spend hours criticizing the bad if I wanted to. But finishing that first volume of her comic, I couldn’t help but go “OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOH. I get it!”

I’m a dude so I can’t say I can identify with EVERY struggle Kamala goes through, but it was an eye opener to say the least. Ms. M is the reason why I got into super heroes and this blog helps me celebrate her. And if just one person decides they like what they read here enough to support the official release, then i consider this whole thing I’m doing worth the effort.

Kamala: They can sort this mess out themselves.

MOD: With great power comes a a greater headache. Also, I AM NEVER DRAWING THAT GLOVE AGAIN.
