I understand it’s difficult to be a parent but it’s time we start telling parents bluntly it’s not the internet responsibility to keep your child safe it’s your responsibility to keep your child safe on the internet
This assumes privilege. In a country where you may be forced to carry a child a term even if you don’t have the capacity to parent that child… this is tone deaf.
In a country where men aren’t taught responsibility long-term and are instead catered to in short-term pleasure… often leaving a mother to fend for herself when raising a child… this is tone deaf.
In a capitalist system which makes everything more expensive and pays everyone less… where many are struggling to even survive. When many are lucky if they can get a roof over their head let alone food let alone adequate parenting. If you have a job that exhausts you or multiple jobs that exhaust you that you HAVE to participate in in order to survive… this is tone deaf.
Recognize your privilege. Think about the reasons why someone may not be able to give this sort of oversight or discipline to their children. It’s not just the “bad” parents that you are indicting here.
I actually think that this is rather tone deaf of you.
As you said, we live under a government that forces people to bear children, doesn't teach men responsibility, abandons single mothers, that makes living harder and harder. And you want parents to...give up responsibility for protecting their children to the very same government?
Make it make sense.
Most of us are well aware of how hard it can be to be a parent because we've at least fucking seen it, if not lived it. The point is that a parent's responsibility to raise their children should be important enough to make space for in our society.
The point is that we shouldn't cede more control over our lives to a shitty government, and should instead be fighting to regain and improve upon our rights so that parents do have the time the parent.
It is irresponsible and defeatist to imply that the solution to protecting children online is letting the government do whatever and censor whatever the fuck it wants. (Especially for struggling parents).
Privelige my ass. It's a goddamned right that we should be fighting for.
Literally never mentioned the government as a solution. I said capitalist system. This extends beyond. The bounds of our country and is reproduced across many countries.
A parents responsibility to raise their kids should be paramount, if they have the privilege to do so in a society such as are. Or if we tear down this society and make one that prioritizes human development over profit.
