What happened with Jay Kristoff:
I’ve gotten a couple questions about what happened with this Jay Kristoff. So here is what happened, with receipts:
For those who don’t know, he is coming out with a new book in the fall called, Empire of the Vampire.
This book is getting four special edition ARCs, which as we know, ARCs are produced for early reviews. One of the biggest controversies surrounding this is how it’s already hard enough for BIPOC authors to even get arcs of their own novels, so why is an already successful, white author getting SE of arcs????
this leads into the next point, of how Jay Kristoff uses Asian aesthetics in his novels, in racist and ignorant ways, and how the publishing industry continues to promote these racist authors. There’s a thread on Twitter about this, and I’ll leave it here:

Jay Kristoff is someone who profits off of Asian culture and refuses to defend the Asian community, and people of color as a whole. He doesn’t deserve the platform he has. And he needs to be held accountable.
But unfortunately there’s a repetition of white authors never needing to take that accountability due to the large platform they have, and it’s become a huge problem.
