at some point in your life you will be boiling fruit, water, sugar, and lemon juice in a pot to make a syrup or jam. the instructions will tell you to simmer for a certain amt of time. your timer will go off and you will look at the pot and go, "hm, this doesn't look thick enough. maybe i'll let it go for another 10 minutes." this is the devil speaking. it's only so liquid right now because it is at boiling point. it will thicken when it cools down. learn from the follies of my youth and do not let this happen to you
at some point in your life you will be making a sauce or a stew in which you need to add cornstarch to thicken it. and you will prepare a slurry of starch in cold water and think "this looks like way too little starch to thicken this amount of liquid." this is the devil speaking. cornstarch instantly polymerizes at 95°C and if you add too much it will turn into an impossibly thick goop.
at some point in your life you will be making some sort of cream based dessert that requires gelatin to thicken it. and you will soak some gelatin sheets in water and think "this is too few gelatin sheets for this amount of cream." this is the devil speaking. it will thicken in the fridge and if you add too much you will end up with milk jelly
at some point in your life you will be baking cookies. you will take the sheet out after twelve minutes as the recipe instructs and the cookies will still be glistening and soft. "these don't seem cooked enough," you will think to yourself, "i should place them back into the oven until their edges are nice and golden." this is the devil talking. this is how you get dry, overdone cookies. the cookies will continue to bake on the warm sheet for several more minutes and then harden up after sitting on a rack for a while. trust the process. trust the process.
at some point in your life you will be adding a small pasta to a soup and you will think "that is not enough small pasta." this is the devil talking. the pasta will absorb the stock and expand. this is how you end up with a soup that is a solid mass of soggy ditalini.
At some point in your life you will be adding garlic to a dish and you will think "that is not enough garlic." These are angels speaking. They are correct. Add more garlic.

Lessons I’ve learned
No. Is a sentence
Love. Isn’t lust
Hope. Is faith
Life. Is God
There is a way that seems right to a man,
BUT its end is the way to death.
Proverbs 14:12 🙏🏽❤️🔥

No Good Thing Withheld
“For the Lord God is a sun and shield; the Lord will give grace and glory; no good thing will He withhold from those who walk uprightly.” Psalm 84:11 NKJV
Contentment evaporates the moment covetousness creeps in. You flip through a home design magazine and your house that felt like a blessing an hour ago now looks outdated. You see a shiny commercial and the car in your driveway suddenly feels like scrap. Covetousness is a silent thief. It steals gratitude, replaces it with restlessness, and whispers that God is holding out on you. Psalm 84:11 confronts that lie. God is both sun and shield. He supplies warmth and protection. He promises grace and He promises glory. And He outright declares that He will not withhold any good thing from those who walk uprightly. If He is holding it back, then by definition it isn’t good for you.
Israel learned this the hard way. God had delivered Jericho into their hands with clear instructions: everything in the city was to be destroyed. But one soldier, Achan, saw silver, gold, and a Babylonian garment. He said, “I saw, I coveted, I took” (Joshua 7v21 NKJV). Then he hid the stolen goods in his tent, thinking no one would know. Israel’s next battle ended in humiliating defeat. When Joshua cried out to God, the Lord revealed Achan’s hidden sin. His covetous act cost him and his entire family their lives.
Covetousness isn’t harmless longing, it questions God’s wisdom, His willingness, and His capability to provide. It accuses the Giver of being stingy. Beware of entertaining it. Goals are good, providing for your family is honorable, but obsession over what God hasn’t given crosses a line.
So what do you do when that desire rises? You pray. You place it before God and a He’ll confirm whether or not it’s in His will for your life. He has already promised that He withholds no good thing. Pleading cannot change His perfect timing or His perfect judgment, but if it aligns with His will, He will bring it in His way. Remember His promise through Paul: “God is able to bless you abundantly, so that in all things at all times, having all that you need, you will abound in every good work” (2 Corinthians 9:8 NCV). If you walk uprightly, you will not lack, you’ll always have plenty. That’s the word of the Lord.
Don’t let what you don’t have blind you to what you do. Lift your eyes to the God who is sun and shield, grace and glory. Rest in His provision, rid your heart of covetousness, walk uprightly and watch Him prove His promise: no good thing will He withhold from you.
Fear is a lie that tries to steal God’s truth.
