i like drawing, writing, eating, and scrolling through tumblr and tiktok. I’m also an aspiring makeup artist. Maybe I’ll post some looks on here eventually

4. What movies/tv shows/books/games am i into?

im into some popular ones: Marvel, stranger things, spn, and the others in my bio. Then there’s some less popular ones: Miss Peregrine’s home for peculiar children (books AND the movie), Shazam! (movie), and there’s this one book I like called “They Both Die at the End.” I love Borderlands, Kingdom Hearts, Tomb Raider, and the Sims 4

i have three cats, all of which I love very much

6. Favorite flowers/scents/aesthetics?

roses, sunflowers, irises, and orchids are all super beautiful flowers (just like u guys 🥰). I personally love coconut and vanilla mixed together. And my top three aesthetics are: egirl/eboy, soft, and plantcore

7. Hair/eye color, favorite facial feature

i have dark-ish brown eyes, and boring straight brown hair. But I think my best facial feature is my nose

8. Favorite comfort food

sushi, 100%. I‘d eat it every day if I could 😭

9. neurodivergence? Completely optional

i was diagnosed with ADHD at 6 or 7. And my mom and I are pretty sure I have anxiety. There may be others but those are the ones i know i have sure. this is a safe space too, so no judgement ❤️❤️❤️

10. what is your favorite nail polish color?

mine is black. Though it has a bit of competition from baby pink lol

i myself am bi, but I have a preference for men and masculine people. Women and feminine people are *chefs kiss* though

Because it’s happened to us on a trek, if you see abandoned clothes, stop and search for anyone nearby. Late-stage hypotherima causes a thing called paradoxical undressing where the person feels too hot and starts taking their clothes off.

for a little bit of an order for this if it isn’t obvious: Take any wet clothes off (including sweaty clothes!! underlayers can become soaked with sweat while working in the cold and lead to hypothermia later) BEFORE you wrap the person in warm dry blankets/clothing.

Also I cannot stress the ‘do not rub’ thing enough. If you have a frozen steak, let it thaw a little bit and then give it a good rub. Take a peek at it via a hand lens. You’ll see tons of little cuts/gashes. That’s from the ice crystals cutting into the flesh. NEVER rub the skin of a hypothermia/extreme cold exposed person to warm them up unless you want the same damn thing happening to their flesh.

Don’t warm the extremities (hands/feet) too quickly. Not only would it be extremely painful, but the vessels in said extremities opening too quickly can lead to shock (part of the direct heat issue).

The important thing about wool is that it continues to keep you warm even when it’s soaking wet.

Other natural fibers don’t do this. In fact, quite the opposite. Campers and boaters are usually familiar with the phrase, “cotton kills.” If you’re wet in cotton or linen, your clothes actually sap heat from your body.

If you sink in a lake in late October like I did today, staying warm is important. I was rescued long before I would’ve actually died, but cold makes your muscles seize up, which isn’t good if you have to swim to land.

Which brings me around to life jackets. If the water’s cold enough, you may only have five-ten minutes until your muscles seize (today I probably had 40-60, more than enough time to get to land if I hadn’t been picked up), and you’ll drown.

In a life jacket, even in extremely cold water, you can float semi-conscious for perhaps another 30 minutes or so before you actually freeze to death, which is usually when someone rescues you.

What’s more, you probably know that moving around on land warms you up. Jumping jacks, jogging in place, etc.

In water, moving actually makes you colder. You need to stay still curled up in a ball, which you can only do in a life jacket.

In wool AND life jacket, you’re warm, and your head’s above water, which is pretty much your only and entire goal.

If you’re allergic to wool, synthetics are available specifically for this purpose. I know I always say natural fibers are the way to go, but when it comes to safety, wear what protects you!

Yep! A really simple “experiment” I learned as a kid and now use in my own courses is sticking your hand in ice water. Compare moving it around in the water to curling it up in a fist. The contrast is stark!

To increase your survival time in on cold water, you want to curl up! If you’re with others, you want to huddle!

Again, both are only possible when wearing a life jacket!
