Max's heavy boots crunched on dead leaves and sticks as he wandered the forest. He was the one who had been sent out to get food this time. The gang and him had been the only ones left, forced to fight off stupid zombies to the death.

When Max made it to a clearing, his eyes widened. There, hunched over himself, was Logan. Logan Sargeant. Max knew it because of the back muscles he remembered from all their time together. He took a step closer to get a better look. There, a grotesque bite on Logan's neck slightly shone in the moonlight, highlighting his dead-looking features.

Max clutched his bat hard. Carlos said to kill any zombie that came in their path, even if it was a former friend. Yet...he couldn't. Logan wasn't even attacking him.

Max's shoulders tensed as Logan turned around, barely being able to lookup at him with his glossy eyes. What Logan uttered next shocked him to his core.

"Max..."

And at that moment, Max knew.

He would protect Logan with his life.
