"if it goes wrong, you lot just play dumb and we’ll delete this video, deal?" she blurted out, pointing her index finger at the camera in a feigned threat, but with a clear smile on her lips. "hello, everyone. today i’ve decided that my sewing skills, which currently stand at a solid two out of ten, are good enough to make a structured jacket from scratch. yes, the first proper item of clothing i’m ever going to sew is a jacket. why start with the basics when we can flirt with a mental breakdown, right?”

​the video cuts quickly to a fast-forward shot of abby spreading the heavy fabric out on the cutting table. ​the next take showed abby struggling with the template, the scissors getting stuck on the curve and her letting out an irritated grumble.

but, like everything abby touched, the chaos was just the icing on the cake. in the final takes, the background music took on a calmer, more focused tone. the camera zoomed in on the details: the needle finally gliding smoothly through the fabric, her fingers guiding the piece with an ease that was infuriating to anyone who claimed she didn’t know what she was doing.

at the very last second, the video cuts to abby putting on the finished jacket. she turns slowly, the jacket fitting her perfectly, structured and stylish.

"five minutes," she replied, her voice drawn out in that classic way of someone who knows it’s going to take at least another half an hour.

"you said 'five minutes' twenty minutes ago," the boy retorted, and you could hear him let out a soft chuckle before the video cut abruptly to the final result of the painting.
