Memories
This project has a lot in common with my first project of this semester
>Material I wasn't used to
>Project breaking apart constantly
>Having to redo it several times
Plastering isn't an art form I have much expertise in and while working on this piece many hiccups came along the way. On top of the difficulty of getting the material needed, making sure that the project stayed in one piece was a hassle. After my first initial hands broke, I was unsure of how to fix it due to the material I used running out. I decided to replicate my original idea using "plaster bandages" which is a type of material used for replicating body parts.
As for the symbolic side of things, this is a piece I've dubbed "Memories", and it's a piece that's meant to emphasize how photos can take timeless images. We have three elements, the camera, the hand, the photo and chair.
We see that a camera is taking a photo of a young man who despite being visible in the photo is no longer there leaving an empty chair.
My favorite part of critiques is the feed back and sadly due to personal reasons, I wasnt able to get feedback for this work. I'd like to believe that there is still for interpretation such as whether the piece is making a comment on how to embrace youth as time is fleeting or maybe preserving memories of those long passed
Either way, just like my first project, I did learn a lot and although it didn't come out quite perfectly like I'd hope it was still a great learning experience.

“What a terrible mistake to let go of something wonderful for something real.”

"Barred"
Blindfolded and disoriented by the darkness of the night, I attempt to build up a series of horizontal metal bars which are supported by a large metal frame outside of the viewfinder. To the viewer, all that is seen is a blacked-out faceless figure stumbling through space to complete a simple task, moving slowly and lacking confidence. In the end, the figure seems to be trapped within the frame, literally. In each of these videos, the completion of one daunting task is met by yet another one.

"Ajar" Jell-O, plaster, cooler, glass jar, flashlight, and towel 27" x 17" x 12"
Exploring the concept of the body being in a constant state of breakdown, renewal, and preservation, this work demonstrates the end result of a bodily form that has been physically broken down, re-molded, and ultimately plunged into a jar of Jell-O. The process of purposely breaking down the plaster cast to haphazardly put it back together in a bucket of Jell-O resembles how the human body kills off cells to create new ones. Just as in the human body, as time goes on the forms begin to break down and eventually come to a place of rest.
