Bo Know Bo

There are too many people who pray to the money god. They see currency as necessary to attain happiness. Although it represents, and in many cases helps facilitate a sense of security and freedom, it does not grant holders the power of intrinsic happiness. People have to live with the decisions they make in order to attain money. They neglect relationships with loved ones. They do various nefarious things: lie, cheat, steal, destroy the environment, enslave and kill each other. The freedom and security that money represents can turn into an obsession for some, and this obsession subsequently ends up captivating and consuming people (simultaneously and ironically exposing their insecurities). The money that people posses or dream of possessing ends up possesses them.

Capitalist consumer culture encourages an idolization of money and those who have it. The wealthiest among us are often notorious; admired and respected because of the amount of money they have or appear to have. People with no intellectual property, no creative value, no ideas and no skills, even people who have inhibited contributions to the advancement of humanity are revered simply for possessing money.

Mo Problems…

There is reason there is a correlation between sociopaths and CEOs. This is because CEOs may need to make inhuman decisions for the ‘good’ of their businesses. Sociopathic decisions are made everyday in the name of money. Take Flint, MI for example: 12 reported deaths, thousands poisoned, and an entire city’s water supply ruined to save money. Look at the influence that money has on lawmakers who take from lobbyists and special interests and tailor laws to protect and enable corporations so that they can continue to exploit our public health, our environment, and our societal relationships. Big pharmaceutical companies spend millions to convince us to see ourselves as sick or insufficient in order to increase their income. Big oil destroys ecosystems, poisons groundwater, suppresses technological advancements, and even causes earthquakes through fracking, all in the name of the all mighty money god. Even informed consumers continue to shop at Wall Mart to save a few pennies all while knowing that the cheaper products are cheaper because they were made in factories that completely disregard the negative environmental impacts they cause, and employ under aged, under paid, and frequently abused workers. Though humanity exists in it’s current state because of its revere for currency, currency causes humans to behave and treat one another worse than animals.
