Since I’m trying to be more active on Tumblr, I wanted to reintroduce my webcomic Countdown to Countdown to the peeps on this site!

Hi! Thank you so much! Here’s a little thing I did, sorry I took so long. I’m not good at explaining but I tried ;-; Drawing a very basic human body shape is nothing too tricky. It’s simply taking your stick drawings to the next level by fattening them up. Here’s a(n) (over)simplified tutorial:

But going into specifics like anatomy is where it gets harder. I’m no good at this either. The best tip I could give is to not be lazy looking for references. Do not deprive yourself from looking at references because you deprive yourself from knowledge. You will improve the fastest this way instead of relying on the contents of your brain. It’s like cooking; if you don’t know the recipe, you look it up. If I can’t find the reference I want, I take a picture of myself, or pose in the mirror… I find that it really helps to pose the same way I want my character to pose because I “feel” the muscles I’m drawing, if that makes sense… It’s pretty embarrassing, but I learn and I enjoy myself, so it’s OK don’t be shy.

So now I’ll try to draw Bakugou doing push-ups without reference. I’ll draw an unusual angle that I’m not used to.

Ah. That’s already bad. What are collar muscles. The limits of my knowledge in anatomy shows up. I studied a little about these muscles, but most of what I’m doing here is guessing. I really need to study more.Let’s try that again but this time, I’ll look at pictures of people doing push-ups.

Here’s some of my thought process while drawing. I’m not sure how helpful this is but I already did it so…First picture is the one without reference. Bottom picture is the one with reference.

Checking with references gives you accurate information, but do not just copy blindly. Learn how the muscles interact while you’re looking at them. Learn the shapes of the muscles instead of the lines that form them. 

This is a bit long already, sorry. There’s a lot of muscles and they all have their own quirk, so it’s hard to explain without making a novel out of it. But TL;DR: check references and learn from them.
