Going Crazy Over Noragami Au Wangxian Under The Cut Dont Mind Me
if u dont know abt noragami, shinki/regalia are just ghosts that gods grant names (a human name and a vessel/tool name) and then they can turn into tools for the god. if they serve multiple gods they are called strays, this is generally looked down upon. if shinki are super mega loyal and risk their life for their god, they become ultra strong shinki called blessed vessels. thats all u need.
wei wuxians absolutely the god in the equation, bc ive already had wangji be the wielder and wuxian be the weapon in the soul eater au, so we gotta SWAP! wuxian is a god, wangji is his longest standing regalia/shinki/weapon/whatever u wanna call them.
wangjis been around for. Fucking Ages. wuxian named him like 1000 years ago. he saw wangjis ghost meditating somewhere scenic and was like. i need him more than ive ever needed any shinki ever. named him Lan Zhan, vessel name Wangji. jobs a good'un. he Did Not like being wuxians shinki at first bc wwx is....annoying as hell? but took it deadly serious nonetheless, hes an employee and ,by god, he will do his job WELL!
wangji is present through a period where wuxian is worshipped a lot as the yllz - and also blighted a hell of a lot by some attempts to control phantoms - hes there when worship of wwx falls out of relevance HARDCORE and they have to really scrape by on minimal jobs, he risks his name for wwx against some significantly older gods and is reforged as a blessed vessel, wangji is DEVOTED on a level that other gods Dream of for their shinki. wuxian brags about him constantly to any god who will listen.
at some point, wuxian notices that wangji seems to Yearn for a family and they decide to keep an eye out for the spirit of a child to adopt, which falls into their laps in the form of the Wen clan! wei wuxian names a bunch of spirits, gives them all the wen surname to bond them as a new generation of shinki, and among them is wen yuan, vessel name sizhui ! a teenage boy that wangxian Absolutely Adore! at some point the wen shinki are killed, except for wen (who is missing, but wuxian can feel his name is still intact, and therefore hes still alive), and sizhui (who wangji manages to rescue) and wuxians little family falls from like 20 smth, down to three
jiang yanli is wuxians biggest ally in irrelevance, they were both minor gods born in the same area and thus consider eachother siblings (alongside jiang cheng, whos somehow managed to become a bigshot god of fortune, the lucky bastard 🙄). despite all the advertising wwx + jc do on her behalf, yanli + wwx are both shrineless in this modern day n age, but r thriving regardless (thank you, a-chengs god of fortune money!)
yanli has two shinki to her name, one is jin zixuan and the other is a brand brand new shinki named jin ling! the newest dead boy on the block! yanli + zixuan are eventually killed and, due to the lack of shrine, yanli cannot be reincarnated, so jin ling is left masterless. wwx renames him jin rulan, and claims him as his newest shinki, and jiang cheng and wwx will repeatedly bicker over this fact.
jin ling is The Problem Child whereas sizhui is, in wwx's unbiased opinion, the most perfect angel of a boy to ever exist and clearly this is lan zhans perfect parenting! sizhui has accepted the fact he is dead with Grace and Decorum, he is very emotionally stable for a teenager with such a fraught afterlife, hes never stung wuxian, and hes a Lovely Boy Whos Never Done Anything Wrong Ever. except for when him + wangji gang up on wuxian, then wangjis a terrible influence who has led their son astray and theyre both evil horrible men who hate wuxian and want him to lay down and DIE!
jin ling however is very angsty about his lack of friends and family, about the loss of yanli and zixuan, about the fact hes dead, about pretty much everything in fact, and stings wuxian constantly, which wuxian is upset about because he doesnt really know how best to comfort jin ling, and wangji....is not particularly fond of. especially when said stings result in very severe blight for wwx and also start to influence sizhui into thinking more negatively - which just makes the blight problem Worse. but its ok an ablution featuring xiyao and some uncle-nephew and father-son bonding will solve this problem!
wangji will, however, be extra serious about wuxians health for a GOOD WHILE after this, because wuxian Cannot Reincarnate without a shrine - and even if he COULD reincarnate, wangji doesnt want to Raise A Child Version Of Wuxian That Doesnt Remember Him, he wants the wuxian he knows to Stay the wuxian he knows - so the kids better get used to extra lessons FAST!
the kids are deeply confused about what wangxians relationship is. sizhui refers to them both as his dads, and he knows theyre in love because its Very Obvious theyre in love but hes 99% sure theyve never talked about it. which is crazy for two people whove had 1000 years to do so, and also raised a son together for multiple centuries. jin ling assumes theyre married at first, then asks wangji and is met with the most dazzled expression hes ever seen wangji pull (<-eyes slightly widened and mouth Slightly opened in shock, barely noticeable). which could mean anything. he then asks sizhui if theyre married and gets a "they definitely Want to be", which is still not an answer, and then he asks wuxian and gets a "sorta? ish? if you squint?" which is also not an answer.
mwanwhile wangjis hopelessly in love with truly everything wwx says or does, and wuxian is very much the same for wangji. they act like a couple in every sense of the word. however, because wangji was told many moons ago that gods cannot reciprocate human affections in the same way, hes simply never pushed the issue too hard. he doesnt care regardless though, because any affection wwx is willing to give him is enough in wangjis eyes. thankfully for wangji, wuxian is the most pda-loving man alive.
eventually, when wuxian finally gets a shrine somehow, he gets be invited to a matchmaking event for the new year where the gods match a new batch of humans to their soulmates! yay! hes never been to a godly Event before, hes so hype! he gets matching outfits for them all to wear to the event! the other gods and shinki are in Awe at mr blessed vessel wangji, and while wuxians busy bragging about how cool his lan zhan is, the kids slip away to go be Nosy. because this is the PRIME moment to tie wangji & wuxians plaques together and make them Officially soulmates. wangji is walking away from plaques looking smug. when they finally find wuxians plaque it is already tied to wangjis. its unclear whether or not them being tied was wangjis doing or if hes just happy to find out theyre already soulmates, hes extremely tightlipped when they ask about it. either way, hes ecstatic for the rest of the evening.
