Chapter Excerpt:

Every press of a brush stings violently. It’s a delicate process of layering on a color corrector and concealer. It’s made even worse by the ticking timer in his head. By the time he’s setting with powder and spray, he’s winded from how tense his muscles are. 

The makeup is creasing slightly, but it’s fine. As long as no one looks closely, they probably won’t notice (Rachel and her team definitely will, though). 

Izuku bolts towards the closet where he keeps his suitcase. He rummages through it to grab the nearest available pair of pants and then yanks them on. 

He’s in the middle of getting one leg through when he hops over to the desk to grab his phone. Need to confirm if he can take the metro, or if he’ll need to ride share…

After a few (dangerously unbalanced) hops, he finally makes it to the table with his pants successfully pulled up. 

Notifications pop up at the top of the screen. He swipes past all of them except for an email from Darrel. 

Izuku pauses, his thumb hovering over the notification. The subject line is cut off, but the first two words read, ‘Today’s Shoot...’

A chill goes down his spine.

Shouto stares at him with an unusually intense amount of focus.

The moment passes.

Izuku fidgets.

The fleeting thought that Shouto might be mad at him flashes through his head in neon. He tries to shut it down. That’s unlikely. Unreasonable, even. He hasn't done anything to make Shouto mad. Not recently, at least (excluding the fan backlash). Besides, Shouto is the type to confront when he detects a problem; beating around the bush like this isn’t his style.

After a while, Shouto finally sighs. He sets his shoes down and takes the empty spot.

The mattress dips under his added weight. Despite Shouto’s relaxed posture, he’s still tense. From the slight line across his brows to the way his hands are curled against his knees—it’s like he wants to say something, but hasn’t worked up the words.

It’s not until he folds his hands together in his lap does he finally speak.

“It’s about you.”

Summary:

“The fuck are you doing here shitty nerd?!” Katsuki looms over Izuku, his fist curled tightly by his sides. His low seething voice echoes through the now abandoned set. Izuku flinches back. “I’m here to do my job,” He grinds the blond’s name from between his teeth, “Katsuki.” “Hah?” A mocking look takes his features, “Your job? There ain’t no fuckin’ way Tartarus Studios is keeping your B-tier ass.” He leers over Izuku, fully taking advantage of his three-inch advantage. His red eyes scan Izuku up and down with disbelief. Izuku narrows his own eyes with barely disguised dislike. “Your soft-spined pathetic self? Deku?” Katsuki sneers, “My fucking ass.”

“Can I ask you one last question?” 

Izuku doesn’t move his head from where it’s facing forward, but he does shift his eyes to look at Charlie 

“What’s the question?” 

Charlie takes her time. Almost like she’s bracing herself for what she’s about to ask, which has a flare of worry fire through Izuku. He hangs his elbow off the backrest. Charlie’s dark blue eyes never leave the front of the church. Her black-painted nails dig so hard into her palms, that he’s sure she’ll leave behind crescent moon grooves. 

She blinks twice. Chin angled down as she looks at her fingers. Brushing them against each other in a soft manner.

“Look, Midoriya,” The studio representative sighs, annoyed. She pinches her temples, eyes screwing shut, “You’re still an actor who is signed under Tartarus Studios. You’re contractually obligated to do your due diligence to ensure production continues as smoothly as possible.” 

She hunches forward. 

A glint of cold steel flashes in her black eyes.

“I understand you have your reservations, but let me remind you that the studio is in a very precarious position right now.” 

The ‘because of you’ goes unsaid. 

Izuku presses his lips into a thin line.

His eyes drop to the contract in his hands.
