Happy 10th anniversary, Undertale!!

It's hard to put into words how much Undertale means to me. I was in a very dark place when it first came out, but playing this game brought me much needed comfort. I fell in love with the silly jokes and characters, the beautiful and weird world it's set in, the metatextual stuff, the heartwrenching story of Asriel... And most of all, the constant theme of hope and determination. It really felt like the game was saying "You cannot give up just yet!". This was a message that 16 year-old me really needed to hear. I'm glad I did not give up then.

It was also an incredibly artistically inspiring experience, both inside the game and also coming into contact with the fanart, the animations, the fan games. It was incredible to see how Undertale had inspired not just me but so many people around the world. I remember thinking "Man, I want to make something like this someday. Something that will inspire people like this game inspired me". I still hold this feeling so many years later. I hope someday my characters and my stories will mean as much to someone as Sans, Papyrus and everyone mean to me.

I replayed Undertale a few months back. We now have Deltarune, which is a lot more technically impressive and being a longer game it has much more time to develop it's narrative, and I am SO excited to see more of it. But it really struck me how Undertale's simplicity by comparison does not keep it from being an incredibly enganging experience. I laughed and cried all the way through. If you haven't played it yet, please do. I hope it positively impacts your life as much as it impacted mine.
