Blue-Eyed Dynasty

Thank the Gods Atem was used to Kaiba’s bluntness, if he was someone else (like Jounouchi), he wouldn’t had taken it too well. Still, a little sweat drop did came down on side of his head. He cleared his throat for a moment before continuing.

“Well, to get that out the way… Yes, I’ve been alive for a few months now…” Three months to be exact. Atem glanced up towards the skies for a moment, considering his next words carefully.

“I was granted a second chance at life…” He wasn’t sure how Kaiba still felt about him mentioning the Gods or anything related to the manner so he kept it discreet.

“Granted,” he snorted, shaking his head. It always seemed to be some unavoidable manner of mythical phenomena with Atem. Science and facts became secondary.

“So, there’s no real explanation to be had. I suppose your typical unbelievable type of answer is better than something of psudeo-science. Although it isn’t much of an answer either way.”

Atem opened his mouth to say something… Only to close as he scrunched up his nose. No, he can’t come up with an argument like that when it comes to slacking workers; Kaiba did have a point there.

Then again, Atem was used to Kaiba’s intimidating presences, so this was a whole different manner. “Right…”

He shake his head before looking at the brunet. “You said you wanted me to explain…” He started, getting back to the subject. “Well, it’s a bit of a long story. I hope I’m not keeping you from anything.”

“If I’m not working, I’m being kept from something. But I’ll make exceptions when they’re important enough. And I consider you explaining how you’ve quite literally risen from the dead important enough,” he quipped, eyebrow raised.

Atem blinked twice for a moment before quickly following after the taller brunet

Before he knew it, Kaiba had lead him into employee tunnels and the former Pharaoh was quite in awe; he’s never seen the backstage area of Kaiba Land and he was quite impressed. However, when they had arrived at the elevator, Atem did sweat drop at seeing all the employee quickly scatter the moment they saw their CEO.

He didn’t say nothing about that first and in fact, throughout the ride up, he kept his thoughts to himself until they arrived at the destined floor.

When they had stepped out, Atem was surprised even more at the outdoor employee area. He would’ve made a comment on how beautiful was… If it wasn’t for the fact when they saw some more employees… And they scatter as well, leaving them alone.

“…”

The deadpan look was clear on Atem’s face as he joined his rival at the table. “You know, Kaiba… Have you ever consider turning the intimidation levels down a few notches?”

He sighed. “So, that’s a no.”

Shaking his head, he crossed his arms. “I don’t see why I would  want to consider that. Besides, they’re the one who run as soon as I enter a room. I do nothing to influence the behaviour. If they run back to work as soon as I enter a room, that means they were slacking, and should be on their way anyway.”

Oof… There was that bluntness that the former Pharaoh almost forgot that Kaiba had. Still, it’s what made Kaiba… Kaiba. There was no other way to put it and Atem was glad for that.

“But here I am.” He countered. “I’m sure you want answers right now but…” Atem seem glance over at the crowd that was still staring at them. At this point, he started to hear whispers, wondering why he looked so strikingly similar to the current King of Duelists? He was starting to sweat a little nervously. The last thing he wanted was to cause some sort scandal, since only a certain few knew who he really was.

“Do you think we can go somewhere more… Private?”

Kaiba glanced to the crowd as Atem spoke, raising an eyebrow. “Hm. Alright. Follow me."

He turned away, leading Atem back into the employee tunnels, ignoring the stares of patrons as they passed. Even once they were out of sight, though, Kaiba continued to lead onward, navigating the tunnels without second thought until they reached an elevator. He scanned a badge to call the elevator, and when the doors opened, as soon as the few employees inside saw him, they quickly vacated, leaving the elevator empty for him and Atem.

A few floor up, and the elevator doors opened to a landscaped rooftop top employee area. Kaiba didn't have to say anything, nor look at anyone, but as he led Atem toward a vacant table at the edge of the area, several people hurried toward the elevators, quickly leaving them alone.

“Now that everyone has run away, this should be private enough.” The CEO took a seat at a table and raised an eyebrow at Atem. “Care to do some explaining, yet?”

The smirk was still on Atem’s face as he used an amazing combo with his new Dark Eradicator Warlock to not only turn the tide of the Duel, but also beat the Deck and the Dueling Robot. He couldn’t wait to tell Naoto, whenever he catches up with the younger man, how he defeated the Deck. He sure the young man would be delighted.

He heard the gasps and even cheers from the crowd that he attracted since he was the first to defeat the deck, but he pay no mind to it. In fact, once his excitement faded away, he couldn’t help but feel a bittersweet…  This was a Deck Kaiba designed, right? He figured the CEO was probably not even in the country to witness this since he was more focused on the company now. Maybe that was for the best…

That was until he heard that familiar voice coming right behind him.

“!!!!”

Atem pretty much freeze up like a deer caught in the headlights before he finally turned around… And saw the taller brunet CEO.

“….”

He stared at him for a moment… Until a smile started to appear on his face.

“Hey Kaiba… It’s nice to see you again.”

For a moment, Kaiba wasn’t sure what to start with. There was a lot he wanted to say, mainly to ask, but he had to start somewhere.

He planned to start with a question, but of course it didn’t go that way.

“I would have thought the only one other than myself that could beat that deck would be you. I didn’t expect it would actually be you here, however.”

Atem was looking at the Duel Monsters field, carefully thinking his strategy. The former Pharaoh had decided to come to Kaiba Land to, not only test out his new Deck, but he heard that Kaiba had designed an unbeatable Deck that even pro-Duelists were having trouble defeating it. Not only was he curious to see how this Deck played out… But the fact that his long-time rival had designed it, made Atem’s blood boil with excitement.

While he had heard from Yuugi that Kaiba had retired from competitive playing, it was nice to hear that he still designed Decks. Which is why he was here, sure… His Life Points didn’t look that good… But it seem Atem had an idea. There is a way to beat this Deck… If only he could get that right card…

The Duel Robot ended its turn and now it was Atem’s turn. He took his Draw and looked at the card… And a smirk appeared on his face.

“Looks like it’s time to change the tide of the Duel..”

The odds of someone beating what Kaiba had advertised as an unbeatable deck were small, and the odds of him being nearby when it happened were even smaller. However, that was the scenario, and as the CEO strode through the underground tunnels, headed for the Duel Ring arena. He needed to see who had beaten that deck. There was only one person could think of, but—

No, that was impossible.

The moment Kaiba entered the building, people began to take notice of him. He paid none of them any mind, head straight for the Ring where the unbeatable deck had in fact been beaten. And there, at that Duel Ring, he found exactly who he couldn’t have expected.

“Atem,” Kaiba spoke, just the name, to get his attention. It felt foreign on his tongue. But this man was most certainly not Yuugi, and just as certainly no one other than Atem.

Based on the clip/song track La Valse de L’Amour from Disney’s “Cinderella (2015)”  live action movie.

Merina was in the living room, playing the “Cinderella (2015)” soundtrack on the sound system as she was studying her new script. Coincidentally, the play that Domino City Performing Arts that she was going to be involved in was “Cinderella” and she had gotten the lead role as Cinderella. She was already giddy because “Cinderella” had always been her favorite fairy tale and Princess, so she decided to get into the mood by listening to the soundtrack and maybe even watching both the animated Disney film and live action after studying her script and making notes.
