Sealshippng Headcanons
Thought I'd share some headcanons that I've been working on. So here is a little collection for my favorite ship
Lapis lazuli is Atem's favorite gemstone, he loves the bright blue, so Mahad had a lotus bracelet inlaid with lapis lazuli made for Atem, it’s Atem’s favorite piece
Mahad was hand picked by Aknamkanon to be Atem’s right hand. Since Atem has no siblings to rely on, Aknamkanon wanted to have someone his son could trust and grow with.
While Mahad was brought forth to Pharaoh Aknamkanon due to his exceptional magic. Aknamkanon picked him due to his steady presence, patience, and kindness.
The first time meeting the young prince, Atem invited him to play senet with him. While Mahad has not won yet, it’s something they still do to this day if either of them need to decompress or just want an excuse to spend time together
Atem never treated Mahad as lesser, he always put him and Mahad on the same level and never budged on this
Mahad hand picked Atem’s royal guards, Kaha was chosen to be the head of the guard. He wasn’t the first pick for many of the other guardians but Mahad saw his potential and oversaw Kaha’s training. Kaha grew into a competent loyal leader who’d do anything for the Pharaoh.
Mahad followed Atem into the puzzle and sealed himself with Atem and Zorc. He couldn’t bring himself to wipe Atem’s name from his memory fearing he would be lost forever. So Mahad sealed his voice away. He could never speak to him but Atem would never be truly lost
Mahad tried his best to keep his distance and only step in when needed while they both lingered in the puzzle's labyrinth. He didn’t want his presence to trigger any hint of a memory
One of Mahad's reoccurring nightmares is about watching helplessly as Atem faded into a confused and angry spirit before his eyes while being unable to help

I really love when fics let Mana and Yugi be friends. I feel like Mana would love talking to him and swapping embarrassing stories about Atem. I also love when fics have Mahaad/Dark Magician refer to Yugi [either in private or outloud] as his "Little Master" - just him considering both Yugi and Atem as people he serves and respects is really cool to me, you don't even need to do AU's for it just have them both be super endeared to Yugi through their magician card connections to him
It's rare to find fics that do this for them but it's what I believe in my heart which is why I also believe they were both shattered to see Yugi and Atem pitted against one another
It's always "childhood friends because Atem moved to Japan as a kid" and never "childhood friends because Yugi went to a dig in Egypt with his grandpa and met Atem in the streets of Cairo." Give me Atem and Yugi penpal friendship because Sugoroku knows Atem's family from his archeologist circles. Give me Yugi being interested in mythology because he's a goth nerd and we all were and Atem trying to impress him with stories about the gods but he keeps getting shit wrong because he just never payed much attention to it before
Give me Atem teaching Yugi how to play some of the local games and Yugi thinking he's the coolest person ever. Give me Yugi being friends with Mana and Mahaad because of Atem and all of them going on little adventures together. Ya know
Atem is so used to Yugi doing makeup for the both of them that when he gets to Aaru and has to do it himself for the first time he absolutely fucking sucks at it. Yugi always made it look so easy and yes Atem knows he could just get someone else to do it on him but it wouldn't be the same and he's a pharaoh he can do this - cue Mana and Mahaad commentating on his three hour struggle to do a perfect wing. He pokes himself in the eye more than once and is so close to just breaking the rules and kidnapping Yugi to do it for him
