Summary : She doesn't scare you - she never did and never will - You prove that when you took a hold of her hand that was long forgot. That touch that she had lost many years ago. Her anger soon disappears as your touch was on her.
Her blackened fingers.
Her dark nails.
Her crown representing the devil's horns.
She was no good, she was full of evil, but you were determined to give her the love she deserved. You understood you wasn't vision or her boys but you were a friendly face. A face she had once called hers many years ago.
She had loved and lost, just like you. She loved Vision and lost him, She had loved her boys and lost them as well. She loved her family and they to have been lost, Lost in her rage and anger.
The sweet girl everyone knew, gone.
Her magic turned dark, as if she had been spoken to by a serpent - the voice of temptation - like someone had lead her to evil.
your touch upon her hand made her gasp, the cold skin soon returning back to it's normal warmth that you found cute many years ago. Her skin slightly glowing as she felt a familiar spark, The spark of love. Your hand tightened, fingers locking together like a padlock on a bridge - the key thrown away never to be found again - you were okay with being like this. So was she.
She needed the reminder that she could love again, that she doesn't have to be scared of being alone because she's not alone. She's no long idle. no longer one.
as the bible says, 'Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonour others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.' Love is hard, but easy. Challenging but also able.

Alright, another professor Wanda drabble because Iâm utterly whipped for her.
âI think spoken Russian is going to send me to an early grave,â You complained. âIâm good on the written and comprehension sections but the oral pronunciationsâŚâ You groaned dramatically, tossing your âRussian 101â book out in front of you and dropping your arms so you were laying prone on bed.
Wanda picked up the book, reading through the dog-eared page you had been studying. âIs this the one youâre struggling with?â She pointed to one of the longer words at the top of the page. It had been twisting your tongue for hours.
You nodded. Wanda placed the book back in your hands and sat down next to you. âYou know all the syllables. Just say it slowly, donât try to cram the sounds together, just say them one at a time.â
You propped yourself back up on your elbows, squinting and bending forward to study the page. You sounded out the word slowly. Each syllable felt like an entire word of its own. It was by no means an elegant attempt, but it was technically correct.
Wanda slide down on the bed so she could press a kiss onto your lower back. âSee?â She said, nuzzling the downward curve of her spine. âYouâre getting it. Keep going. Try this one here.â She reached around you to point out a sentence at the top of the next page.
You spoke the words awkwardly and slowly, mentally trying to translate the foreign lettering into sounds. Wanda started tracing her way back up your spine, placing gentle kisses along each ridge.
âYouâre a lot better at this than you think you are,â Wanda assured. âI couldâve never guessed this was your first semester taking Russian if I wasnât the one teaching it to you.â
âThank you, professor,â you teased. âI believe youâre to blame for my accelerated studies.â You could feel Wandaâs smile curl against your back.
âI suppose that is my job,â She teased, âmaking sure you excel.â
âWell then youâll be devastated to know I have someone whoâs serving as a terrible distraction to my studies.â You smirked, arching your back against her mouth.
âMmm,â Wanda hummed. âIâm sure whoever it is knows that you work too hard. And Iâd bet she knows that youâre brilliant and you couldâve passed with flying colors without even opening the book.â
âAs if she herself isnât known for working herself to the bone,â you retorted.
âAll the more reason to provide her with a wonderful distraction.â Wanda bit gently at the spot your neck met your shoulder. You rolled your head back, mouth falling open in a silent groan. âWe can continue your studies, if you wish. Repeat after me: YA ves' tvoy.â (I am yours.)
You reached one hand back behind you, burying it in Wandaâs thick brown hair. You drew her ruby red lips back to your neck, encouraging more kisses and nips from the older woman. âYA ves' tvoy,â you repeated with easy confidence. These words came far easier to you than the long and complicated ones you were pulling from your books.
âYou speak beautifully, sweet girl.â Wanda sucked at the skin behind your ear.
Your eyes fluttered at sensation. âDevochka milaya,â you said. âSweet girl.â
âMhm.â Wanda did not pull her mouth away from the soft skin of your neck. Your words werenât entirely accurate, as the adjective came after the noun in Russian, but she was in no mood to be pedantic at the moment.
She adjusted her position on the bed, moving to straddle your hips rather than lying beside you. You whined when she pulled away, already missing the warm breath against your neck. The whines turned into moans when Wanda ground against her hips your ass. âI want to hear you say it again. Tell me you are mine,â she demanded.
You obeyed. âYA ves' tvoy,â you said again. The words came even more natural the second time around. âI am yours. I am all yours, my love.â
âYA ves' tvoy, moya lyubov,â She translated, adding in the âmy loveâ.
You giggled. âDo you plan to fuck me until I can recite the entirety of the Russian language?â
Wanda chuckled mischievously, bending so her mouth was mere inches from your ear. âMy love, by the time Iâm done with you, you wonât even remember English.â
Summary: Wanda tried to get to know you a bit better before you start working together but an innocent question bring out painful memories.
Words: 2.1k
Warnings: age gap relationship (R is early 20s, W is like 40), Past verbal and physical abuse, Slight hinted at homophobia, Mommy issues bc i have them too, power imbalance?
A/N: sorry this took so long. uni is really kicking my butt right now and just when i thought i'd have time to write my research supervisor gives me a 400+ page book to read.
âI canât believe youâre abandoning me⌠and for my sister!â Pietro joked as he helped you clear out your desk. Youâd made yourself at home over the past few months working for him. You were sad to be leaving but excited to be working for Wanda, also incredibly nervous, like throw up into the recycling bin near the printer nervous. Not that that had happened of course.
âBut seriously, we are going to miss you down here. Donât go forgetting about us.â He patted you on the back handing you the last of your stuff.
âHow could I forget you? Iâll be down here like every other day wont I? Wanda visits all the time.â you reply with slight confusion. Wanda was always coming down to check on things, like she must do with all the departments. You assumed most of your job would be to accompany her many visits around the building. Staying close and taking notes on what she says like youâd seen Theo do.
âYeah, she definitely was just coming down here for routine check-ins.â Pietro mumbled with the faintest air of smugness of someone who knows something you donât has. Before you could register what he said, the doors on the far side of the room swung open and in came Wanda.
Her stride exuded confidence as she made her way over to you and your now empty desk. Her hair was slightly messy, shirt untucked, and instead of her usual high heels she wore flats.
âGot everything?â She sounded short of breath, like she had just been running. âThe elevator to my office is being inspected so weâll have to take the stairs.â Without another word, Wanda started walking back towards the door pausing to look behind her when she sensed you hadnât moved. âCome on those 15 floors wonât climb themselves.â Suddenly her slightly dishevelled appearance made sense. You took a deep breath and gave one last look at Pietro, who seemed to be going to great lengths to not laugh at his sister, before following Wanda.
The stair well was in stark contrast to the rest of the building. Tall grey brick walls and bright white lighting. It seemed to also double as extra storage space judging by the stacks of boxes and pallets back here. You only seen them briefly while getting your monthly fire safety talks from a very unenthusiastic Dr. Banner, who once again felt the need to remind the group he had much more important things to be doing than this. As much as you found the man funny, heâs short temper made him a little scary at times.
People yelling had always been something you werenât fond of. Your mom had always been so angry with you for not behaving like she wanted. The constant being told to sit, speak, and act âlike a ladyâ throughout your childhood had led to so many arguments. Femininity was just something you never had an interest in and the pressure to fit in from your family only made you reject it harder.
This never made the yelling easier, instead it had only made you desperate to avoid that sort of conflict. Wanda yelling the other day had scared you in a way you hadnât felt since you were a child, and you were now desperate to make sure you were never on the receiving of her rage.
âY/n, careful.â You had been so lost in thought youâd missed a step and stumbled forward. Wanda who had been talking non-stop about how inconvenient the elevator maintenance was stopped to help you pick up some pens that had fallen from the box you were carrying. âDo you need some help with that? It looks heavy.â
You saw this a challenge.
âNo Iâm fine, Iâm very strong.â Wanda gave you a smile as she placed the pens back into the box touching your hand as she pulled away before turning around to continue climbing the stairs. Your face immediately flushed red.
âOnly 4 more flights to go.â Her voice echoed off the bare walls was she turned another corner. You let out a sigh, the box was actually really heavy.
Once in her office you placed the box on an empty desk in the corner of the room. It was pushed up to the window and gave you an amazing view of New York. It was only then you realised how high up you were.
âBeautiful, isnât it?â Wanda came up behind you making you jump slightly, all this achieved was making the red head chuckle slightly. âYouâre so jumpy you know that?â
âIâve been told.â You gave a small smile. Being alone with Wanda was terrifying and exciting all at once. The reality of the situation hadnât really sunk in till just now. It was going to be the two of you, alone, very often from here out.
âCan I ask you something?â You nervously asked fiddling with the hem of your shirt not daring to look Wanda in the eyes. Her beautiful green eyes.
âOf course you can, darling.â Her final word rattled about in your brain momentarily making you forget what you even wanted in the first place.
âWhat you said, before,â Finally a coherent thought, âabout wanting me, from the start. Was that true?â
âYes, why would I lie.â Wanda raised an eyebrow giving you a no-nonsense look that you couldnât if it was fully serious or not.
âNo, Iâm sorry, I didnât mean it like that! I just, why didnât you? You know, pick me the first time?â It was definitely a word salad that came out your mouth, thank God you were better at writing than speaking. âIâm sorry I donât mean to pryâŚâ you added after Wanda took a second to respond.
âNo, no, donât apologiesâŚâ She took a deep breath as if debating what to say. âThat first day, I thought you had potential,â she began, clearly choosing her words carefully, âI just wanted to, see if you had what it takes to you know, be mine.â
âBe⌠yours.â The words caught in your throat as swallowed hard, struggling to speak.
âBe my intern, my assistant.â Wanda rushed to clarify but something inside you felt like her previous words were more honest. Not that you would dare push her on it. âAnd being my intern comes with a lot of responsibility, so I hope you are ready.â
âYes maâam.â You say saluting the older woman, who found the action quite amusing. âWhat do you need me to do first?â
Turns out Wanda didnât want you to do anything just yet. Instead the two of you sat across from each other in the strange living room area of her office. Wanda lent back into a large leather armchair while you sat on the edge of the couch, almost velvety, black sofa.
She offered you a tea or coffee but instead you opted for the remnants of the energy drink you had tried to chug on the train this morning. Your choice in beverage clearly wasnât approved by Wanda but she did little to stop you besides remind you of their negative health effects.
She asked you questions about yourself, clearly wanting to get to know you better but you held back from answering her questions too honestly, scared of being fired or disappointing her which was somehow worse in your head. They were all basic questions, and you asked some back at her.
She wanted to know about your favourite meal, how to you travel to work, where are you staying, and when you were going to get some proper work shoes. Your real answer being when they made comfortable ones but instead you opted to say when you get your next paycheck.
Then she asked something that caught you completely off guard. âHow is your relationship with your family?â
âMy family?â You repeat to make sure you were hearing things right.
âYes, your family, you are one of the only interns not from a known family in the city, you mentioned you arenât from New York originally, they must be proud of you?â Wanda spoke with a warm smile.
You hadnât noticed but during the conversation you had leant back into the couch. It was like she had given you permission to relax for a change. You didnât understand why but talking with Wanda made you feel comfortable, almost too comfortable at times making you need to remind yourself she was your boss.
âThey umm,â your mind went to the argument youâd had with your father when you told him you were going to university miles away, almost across the entire country, âcan we talk about something else.â Your voice shook slightly at the memory.
How angry heâd been, how angry he always was. The same with your mother, always so resentful, never protecting you from him. You spent your first semester coach surfing with a black eye till you had enough money to afford to rent a shitty little apartment.
âSweetie, itâs okay.â Wanda had seemingly caught on that something was wrong and moved to sit next to you on the couch. She placed her arm around you and pulled you into a side hug that made your whole body tense. âFor what itâs worth, Iâve seen your grades and watched how hard you work. Iâm proud of you y/n.â Her voice had the same warmth as earlier, it was sickeningly genuine to you.
All you wanted to do was melt into her arms, but you couldnât this was your boss. She was just being nice, there was no way she would let you get that close to her under regular circumstances. You told yourself you wouldnât let yourself get attached. Youâd seen how ruthless she could be, and it terrified you to think of being on the receiving end. Catching feelings would just make your eventual fuck up ever worse.
Besides there was no way in hell CEO Wanda Maximoff, multimillionaire Wanda Maximoff, Old enough to be your mother Wanda Maximoff would ever have feelings for you in return.
âI need to go to the bathroom.â You stood up as quickly as Wanda grip on you allowed. âSorry.â You hurried to the small bathroom in the corner of the room, locking the door behind you before allowing yourself a moment to cry.
Cruel words from you parents fought the gentle reassurance Wanda had given you. You took a moment to collect yourself. Taking several deep breaths and trying to get rid of the redness in your eyes with a little cold water from the tab.
The bathroom, like everything in Wandaâs office screamed sophistication. The mostly white tiles with the smallest hint of red complemented the plush red hand towels, and several well looked after plants littered a shelf above the toilet. Most surprisingly was the shower and clawfoot tub in the room. Did she actually use them? Or where they just there because they could be?
Finally you were ready to leave the bathroom, stepping out you saw Wanda quickly look away from your direction. Had she been watching the door the whole time?
âY/n, feeling better?â you gave a weak nod. âGood, right back to business then, first order is sorting out⌠this.â She pointed towards you clothing. Since Pietro had never required you to dress professionally, you had never updated your wardrobe. You wore the same baggy, teen boy esc clothing you always did.
âYeah, I thought that would be a problem, sorry about the way I dress. I justâŚâ
âNo I like the way you dress.â Wanda cut you off. âI mean, you dress fine, itâs just not⌠appropriate if you are going to be accompanying me to important meetings and such.â You couldnât tell if you were imagining it, but you could have sworn you saw a small blush creep onto the older womanâs face.
âRight, there should be a measuring tape in the third draw of the left cabinet in my office. I have some work to get on with you canât help with.â Wanda began quickly pressing the button of the, hopefully, now working lift.
âI want you to measure yourself and note it down. Iâll sort you out some more work appropriate clothing.â Before you could ask any other follow up questions the doors to the lift opened and she rushed inside, disappearing almost immediately.
Walking into Wandaâs office you looked out at the city, everything seemed so quiet, so still from all the way up here. Grabbing the measuring tape you sat down at your desk, getting your phone out to look up exactly what measurement you need to give her. Youâd never had to think about measurements when buying clothes before. Your face flushed a bit think about the idea of Wanda choosing you some clothes. Hopefully she wouldnât put you in a pencil skirt, or God forbid heels.

All i want to do is write my CEO!Wanda fanfic but i have so much uni work to do :( hopefully iâll get the next chapter finished this week itâs been over a month since i posted the last one.
summary: you always believed your mentor had a heart. one lonely night, you find yourself with the proof that agatha harkness can be just as vulnerable as anyone.
It was nighttime. You were both outside, in the small wooded area surrounding Westview, slowly finishing up the dayâs lesson. It was on Earth magic, Green Craft-- as youâd read in the books, and you wondered briefly why Agatha had saved it for last. Almost as if she were avoiding it. It had gotten dark, slowly but surely, the sun setting behind the small town, the last of its rays disappearing from your face in a slow, bleeding backdrop of color and light as you watched Agatha pack up all your stuff. You were feeling good, content with the dayâs outcome, maybe because it was a little different from what you considered the usual.
You were used to staying in the basement and listening to her talk about spells, enchantments, how to channel magic and do useful things, how to defend yourself. But today when you came down with a mug in your hand and your notebook in the other, your mentor shot you a coy smirk, and said to finish your tea and get your jacket. Youâd be having a lesson outside today.
So, as you sat on a tree log, shoes shuffling absentmindedly in the dirt, you couldnât help but notice that Agatha, usually composed, formidable and proficient, seemed slightly off tonight. It wasnât necessarily a bad thing maybe, but she seemed softer towards you somehow, more gentle. Youâd take all the affection she gave of course, but you couldnât stop yourself from worrying a little. It wasnât like her.
You watched her stacking the few books youâd brought with you, dusting off her dark blue coat.
âAgatha?â you asked carefully.
She looked up at you, âYes, pet?â
âIs everything okay?â
She smiled at you. Smiled. âOf course, dear. Why wouldnât it be?â
âDonât know. â you murmured, âYou just⌠seem a little⌠I donât know. Nicer.â
She scoffed. âPlease. Iâm not nice.â A tad of her usual snark returning.
You gave her a smile, short, nodding, and coughed a little. It was getting cold, and you wished youâd brought a better jacket. Something warmer maybe. A sweater to keep you from freezing on the walk back to the house.
Agatha paused.
You couldâve sworn her hand wavered, the book she was holding almost slipping from her grip. You frowned. That was an odd reaction. Especially for her. Before you could ask anything else she was there beside you, shrugging off her coat and draping it around your shoulders. The words you had died in your throat. One of her hands ghosted across your shoulder, smoothing down the fabric there and sending a wave of warmth from her touch down your arm.
You looked up at her, trying to gauge her expression.
âThanks.â you murmured softly.
She didnât answer right away, but her hand stayed on yours, moving lightly to your back, ghosting across your hair.
You didnât move. Didnât dare to, not wanting to break the moment of sudden tenderness.
She sat beside you. You stayed still. Then she spoke, her voice still holding a hint of her knowing confidence, but there was warmth there too, a soft, gentle something coating every word of her tone.
âI need you to promise me something, pet.â
You turned to look at her. âPromise what?â
âThat this...what weâre doing, what Iâm trying to teach you, you take it seriously. I know it may not seem like it butââ
âI take it seriously.â you said, quiet, âYouâre a good teacher.â It was a half-truth. She was teasing and tough on you sometimes, pushing you to do things over and over until you felt like there was no magic left in your hands, but she could be kind, too. Sometimes. Rarely. In her own, Agatha way. You knew that she cared more than she let on. And you wouldnât have anyone else teach you but her.
You watched some unspoken emotion drift behind her blue eyes, somehow bright against the dark twilight that surrounded you.
âGood.â she said. âFlattery wonât get you everywhere, dear, but itâs good youâre listening. Youâll need it all one day.â
âI know.â you said, âI want to learn magic, and youâre amazing at it, andââ
âItâs not just about learning it. Itâs about protecting yourself.â
You stayed quiet. âIâm safe here.â you said, âIâm with you, andââ
âAnd one day I might not be there to come save you from whatever mess you find yourself in.â she spoke, each word sharp and clear. âI wonât be here forever, you know. And itâs vital you learn as much as you can while Iâm here to show you how to do it right, to surviveââ
You frowned a little. âThe world isnât going to eat me. I donât go looking for trouble, you know.â
Again, it was a half-truth.
Yes, you didnât go looking for trouble, but also yes, trouble did seem to find you, maybe because it was one of the many perks of being around Agatha Harkness for long.
âYou say that now, but you being a witch is more than enough to land you into danger.â
âDo witch hunters still exist?â
She sighed. Deep.
âItâs not just that. You canât trust anyone. Even other witches. Especially other witches.â
And you realized what this was. You always knew, of course, how could you not do the simplest research on the person youâd ask to teach you magic, but you never dared to ask.
Your eyes went to the brooch dangling on her necklace, the thin golden chain, three white figures on a dark slab of oval stone. And of course, she noticed at once. You werenât sure what you were expecting, but it certainly wasnât this.
No snark, no sarcasm, no deflection.
Instead her hand, one that wasnât still playing with the ends of your hair, rose slightly, the tips of her fingers brushing against the pendant.
âIt was my motherâs.â she said, quietly. âA useless thing, really, passed down in our family, some dusty heirloom she never intended to give me. I only took it afterââ
She didnât have to finish for you to understand.
You didnât speak yet. Just thought.
How that must have felt for her, young, maybe as old as you were now, alone, standing in the middle of the aftermath of her own power, the only people in her life dead by her hands, her magic, her own fear and power. How alone she must have felt, you thought. How angry, how afraid. Of course she wouldnât show it. But you knew. If anyone did, you supposed it was you, knowing that Agatha Harkness did have a heart. You saw the proof every day, soft pats on the head, a tea or coffee handed to you in the middle of studying, the warmth of a mug pressed into your hand, the quiet, soft, gentle hum of her magic washing over you every time she did something sweet, even if she would deny it when asked.
âShe wasnât a loving person.â she murmured. âShe was cold, always seeing magic as something to be controlled, same as people. Same as her coven. But she couldnât control me.â
You didnât say anything.
âIâm telling you because I need you to know, hun. People always betray you. You canât trust anyone, even if theyâre your coven. Your family. Your sisters. And having too much knowledge or power can make them turn against you like thatââ
She snapped her fingers, so suddenly that you flinched.
âAnd no matter how much power or magic or knowledge you get, you always end up alone. You need to learn to deal with it. Get used to that feeling. Donât let it control you.â
âBut youâre not alone.â you murmured.
She tilted her head to look down at you. âYou say that now, butââ
âNo.â you interrupted, suddenly feeling the urge to let her know just how much her presence means to you, âIâm not. I mean it. Iâm not going to leave you. Or betray you, I wouldnât, everââ
âI know, hun.â she murmured. âI know you wouldnât. I believe you. But I wouldnât hold it against you if you did.
That surprised you.
âW-what?â
She just shook her head, a distant look in her eyes, âThe things Iâve done dear, theyâre not decent. Theyâre not good in any way. And I donât regret them. Any of them.â
And yet you saw a glimpse of something in her eyes that made you think otherwise.
And then you thought maybe, maybe you were just as twisted as her, because you didnât care. At that moment, looking at her through the soft moonlight, seeing her look so vulnerable for once, so different and alone, you didnât have it in you to resent her.
You knew what sheâd done. Killed other witches, took their powers, fought so many people, but--
All you wanted to do was reassure her somehow, make her feel safe.
Make her feel as safe as she made you feel.
So you hugged her.
She stiffened immediately, shoulders tensing at the sudden contact, a soft huff escaping her in surprise. âUhââ
You didnât let go. Held on tighter. Her arms, hovering hesitantly around you, lowered a little, just barely brushing against your back.
âYouâre not bad, Agatha.â you told her quietly. âI donât think youâre a bad person, and Iâm not leaving you-- everââ
She huffed again, but you went on.
âNo. I mean it. I promise. Iâll stay with you, and learn more magic, and-- and Iâll stay until you get bored of me and kick me out.â
You thought you felt her smile against you. Just faintly. Just a little. âGet bored of you, hun? Now thatâs impossible.â
It made you smile in return. And, since this was apparently turning into some sort of heart-to-heart talk, the kind that Agatha Harkness never does, well, you thought, might as well--
âThank you for looking after me.â you made out.
She didnât reply right away.
âDonât say it like that darling, youâre making me sound like some sort of-- caringââ
You giggled. She gave you an offended look, pulling away a little, and you couldnât help but pout. She snorted. âYouâre so needy.â
âNo, Iâm not-â
âOh, yes. You are. Needy and clingy and must you be so affectionate all the time, honestly itâs like watching a baby kitten.â
âKittens are cute.â
Agatha rolled her eyes. Quiet fell upon you for a moment, and you didnât let go of her arm, just listening to the soft stillness of the woods around you, the gentle movements of leaves against the late-night breeze. A gust of wind swindled past you, making you shiver slightly. You felt her arm shift to pull you just a bit closer. Though you knew she wouldnât admit it. You leaned against her, silent, feeling slightly shy at the emotional moment this was turning into. You ducked your head against her, rested your chin against her arm. She didnât move away.
âYou know,â she said softly, âsometimes⌠Sometimes I wonder why youâre still here. Why you insist on staying with me. You should be running away.â
âIâd never run from you. Not like that.â
And you meant it. You couldnât imagine yourself running away from her, not in fear like she was expecting you to.
She sighed, the sound reverberating against you. âYouâre far too sweet for someone like me, you know.â
âYou keep saying that.â
âYes.â
âWhy?â
âBecauseâŚâ another sigh, soft, almost sad, âYou make it really hard not to care for you. And I donât do that. Not ever. Not sinceâŚâ
âSince what?â
âNot since⌠since my son.â she murmured softly, so quiet you almost missed it. âMy⌠Nicholas. And those last few days...â
You didnât move. You werenât sure what to say, how to--
âYou remind me of him so much sometimes, you know?â she said, still so quiet, âYouâre both so happy, so innocently optimistic and carefree and-- you donât-- see me like everyone else does. You look at me like-â she paused again, âlike IâmâŚâ
You looked up at her and were taken off guard to see tears in her eyes, a rare sight, and you wondered how many had seen her like that and lived.
âLike what?â you whispered, softly.
âIâm not good for you sweetheart. You shouldnât be spending your time with a cynical old witch like me, looking at me like thatâlike you think thereâs some good left in me. Trust me there isnât.â
Your heart hurt.âThatâs not true.â
Agatha chuckled wetly. You reached up to hold her hand before she could pull away.
âTruth is, hun, you make me feel things I thought I buried-- withââ she turned away. âItâs not good for my-- my reputation.â
You hugged her again.
She hugged you back, arms wrapping around you, pulling you close, more tightly than youâd felt in a long, long while.
âYou make me want to be less⌠cruel, hun.â
âIs that really so bad?â you murmured softly.
She shook her head, just barely, pressed her face into your hair. You felt tears, warm, wet, sliding down her cheeks and into your hair, to your face. You didnât move. Just held on tighter.
âIâll always stick with you.â you murmured. âI...I wonât leave you. Ever.â
She exhaled against you, breath trembling slightly. âYou stay safe for me hun, okay? I need to know, I need to know youâre listening to me when youâre here, whenââ
âIâm listening.â you said, soft but firm. âI promise I am. And youâll teach me more about protection spells, and about runes, and-- and we can haul up in your basement if something comes for us, and you can kill it and save us.â
She chuckled tearfully.
You could her her sniffling, her hands momentarily leaving your back to presumably wipe her eyes. You didnât turn, letting her pull herself together. When you thought she did, a little at least, you pulled your head back slightly and glanced up.
Her blue eyes were wet with tears, slightly red and glassy, seeming more pale than usual.
It scared you a little, seeing your Agatha, usually so composed and tough, reduced to tears over-- what?
You?
Her son?
Her-- grief, and--
âI worry about you, pet.â she said finally, her voice frail for once. âSometimes I look at you and think youâll change your mind one day, that youâll see how⌠how I really am. How bââ
âI wonât. I see you, Agatha.â you told her softly, in the best comforting voice you could muster, âI see through what others donât, and I wonât leave you. I donât even know where Iâd go if I did. Youâre⌠youâre all I have left.â
There was a moment that seemed to stretch forever, where she simply held you and didnât let go. And then-- as quickly as it started--
She shook her head, and stood up abruptly.
âWe should head back. Itâs late.â
That was it then. Moment over. You knew she would probably do this but something pulled in your chest as you stood up as well, her coat still draped around your shoulders. You bundled it into your arms.
âDo you...want this back?â
She looked at you. Then the coat. Then she shook her head. âKeep it until we get back.â she told you, voice already returning to her old self, âI know how much youâd whine otherwise. And dress better next time. I wonât waste all that time and effort on teaching you magic just so you can die of a simple cold. Hopeless.â
You smiled faintly, and looped your arms through the sleeves.
The coat was warmer than it looked, and you immediately felt a wave of comfort wash over you, mixed with a faint whiff of her perfume and laundry detergent, a soft and floral scent, something you associated with her house.
When she picked up the books and started to walk, you caught up with her, following silently in the slightly-oversized coat, feeling way too snug. You tried to loop your arm through hers. She gave you a pointed look, one eyebrow raised, but let you do it anyway.
âJust this once.â she muttered. âDonât get used to it.â
You knew it was a lie. She knew it was a lie. Neither of you acknowledged it. You knew neither of you probably ever would.
So you walked, quiet and content, with your hand resting on hers, the paved road firm and grounding beneath your shoes. She didnât speak more, didnât mention what she told you, but when the two of you stepped into her front yard she leaned down, hand on the door, and said softly into your ear.
âIf you tell anyone about that I will turn you into a bug and feed you to Senor Scratchy.â
You stilled. The words were whispered with such an honest threat, and yet you couldnât help but smile. You werenât sure sheâd ever really do anything she so often threatened you with, but youâd keep her secrets either way. Of course you would.
You tried to look up at her but she was already inside, disappeared into the kitchen or upstairs, leaving you alone on the doorstep. You followed, stepping in and basking in the warmth of the place, then lightly closed the door behind you.
You found her in the kitchen, making tea on the stovetop and waiting for the water to boil.
She didnât say anything. Didnât even look at you. But as you sat down, her coat still around, keeping you warm, you noticed the two mugs sheâd set out on the counter. You felt her hand ghost over your hair as she went into the living room. A barely-there gesture. Perhaps a silent thank you. But it was enough. You knew, and she knew, and that was more than enough. You were there with her. You were home.
A/n: this wasn't proofread. please don't come at me, I'll edit if I find any mistakes. The title is from Aurora's song Heathens. I'm not sure if I managed to write soft Agatha in a way that's line with her character but I rewatched episode 9 today so that's where the idea came from. Thanks for reading, y'all. Love you. <3
