Well⦠this story is inspired by :
> Chapter 211 of Fairy Tail: 100 Years Quest.
> And this song : Addicted to love. Covered performed by : CHVRCHES.
And truly, that chapter meant so much to Gruvia fans all around the world.
I struggled for days trying to figure out how to create a story that could capture the emotional weight and importance of that chapter.
A whole week passed without me being able to think of anything that truly satisfied me.
But then requested to make a story out of that song. And that request inspired me instantly.
In a single moment, I finally found the missing idea for that sacred moment between Gray and Juviaā¦
like the final piece that completed the picture in my mind.
The apartment lights were on.
But Gray Fullbuster had not truly been home in days.
Certainly not in his soul.
Because every part of him had begun orbiting around one person so completely that it terrified him.
A thought lingering too long ever since that moment beneath the waterā
ever since their desperate mouths had become each other's salvationā
something inside him had changed permanently.
He could still remember it with unbearable clarity.
The freezing darkness closing around them.
Juvia slipping from his grasp.
The horrifying realization that her breathing had stopped.
Gray had grabbed her face and given her his last breath.
The most intimate thing he had ever shared with another person.
His lungs had burned violently, vision blurring from lack of oxygen, but all he could think was:
I will protect her this time .
And when consciousness returned in fragments, it was her this time.
Juvia's trembling hands cradling his face.
He heard her calling out in frightened pleaā¦
'Gray-sama⦠please .. wake up.'"
Juvia breathing life back into him with shaking desperation.
As if she would rather drown with him than live in a world without him.
And when they finally reached safetyā
when air filled their lungs and the danger had passedā
From something far more dangerous.
He had dragged her against him suddenly, arms locking around her soaked body with desperate force before crashing his mouth against hers.
Like a starving man tasting life for the first time.
Juvia had gasped softly into the kiss, fingers instinctively clutching his shirt as Gray kissed her again and again without rhythm or restraint, completely overwhelmed by the terrifying flood of emotions tearing through him.
It was the kind of kiss born from almost losing someone forever.
Gray had not even realized what he was doing anymore.
All he knew was that her lips were warm against his, and suddenly nothing in the world had ever felt more necessary.
By the time he finally pulled away, breathing harsh and uneven, his forehead pressed against hers as anchorwater dripped from both of themā
Because the truth hit him all at once.
He had liked it too much.
The taste of her mouth had stayed with him long after that night ended.
Making every moment without her feel unbearable.
And that terrified him more than any enemy ever had.
Two entire days avoiding her.
Cowardice disguised as self-control.
Because Gray Fullbuster could already feel himself losing the careful restraint he had spent years building around his heart.
He stopped sleeping properly.
Not because of nightmares this time.
Because every quiet moment became filled with her.
He couldn't even feel the taste of food.
The memory of rainwater dripping from her lashes.
The instinctive way his eyes searched for blue hair in every crowded hallway of the guild before he even realized he was looking.
How her smallest touch lingered on his skin for hours afterward.
How hearing her laugh caused by another man made something violent awaken inside his chest.
How one soft glance from her could calm storms in him that years of solitude never could.
The feeling of her lips beneath hisā
Those kisses had ruined him completely.
The memory alone made his pulse race violently.
He hated how easily she could undo him.
that word was too ugly for what this was.
Because there was nothing impure about the way he loved her.
It felt devastatingly pure.
Like standing before something divine and realizing your soul had already knelt long before your mind understood why.
And maybe that was exactly why it hurt so much.
Because Gray had spent his entire life surviving loss.
How to bury grief beneath ice and silence.
But Juvia never allowed him to remain numb.
Not the weapon everyone relied on.
The lonely boy beneath all the scars.
And she loved him with such terrifying sincerity that eventually he stopped knowing where he ended and she began.
And when she said his name with softness , with the unbearable warmth in her eyes whenever she looked at himāas if she had already devoted her entire existence to loving him and saw nothing tragic about that surrender.
Gray was beginning to realize he would destroy himself for that look.
That was the frightening part.
Desire was simple. Physical. Temporary.
This felt like drowning beneath freezing water while simultaneously being set on fire.
Like something ancient had reached into his ribs and wrapped invisible fingers around his heartbeat.
That loss of control should have scared him away.
He could feel it even now.
Sitting alone on the couch.
Hands clasped tightly together.
Trying to breathe normally.
Trying not to think about her.
And his mind... not his own anymore.
Even though the lights were on ..
Everything inside him felt dark.
The knock at his window shattered the silence.
He already knew who it was.
Rain streaked the glass of the window behind her silhouette..
He moved slowly, with heavy steps toward his inevitable fate, and opened the door for her to enter without hesitation.
Juvia Lockser stood there , blue hair damp against her shoulders, eyes softer than moonlight itself.
"Gray-sama is awake," she whispered.
It slipped beneath his skin too easily now.
"You shouldn't be here this late," he muttered weakly.
Juvia smiled sadly this time.
The guilt twisted sharply in his chest.
"No," she whispered gently.
"Gray-sama was running away."
Raw and open and completely hers.
Gray looked away because suddenly breathing felt difficult.
That made her expression falter.
And suddenly all the exhaustion inside him spilled loose at once.
"You don't understand what's happening to me."
Juvia stepped closer carefully, like approaching something wounded.
Gray laughed once under his breathātired, broken.
"I can't stop thinking about you."
Her breath caught softly.
"I tried. For two damn days I tried."
He ran a hand through his hair roughly, frustration bleeding through every word.
"But it's everywhere now. Your voice. Your face. That kissā"
His voice cracked slightly there.
Juvia's cheeks flushed faintly, but she didn't look away.
And that honesty in her eyes nearly killed him.
Gray stared at her for a long moment before speaking again, quieter this time.
"When I kissed you after we survivedā¦"
His fingers curled slightly at his side.
"I wasn't thinking anymore."
The rain outside grew heavier.
And somehow that confession felt more intimate than touching her.
Gray stepped closer slowly until barely any space remained between them.
"You know what scares me?" he whispered.
His eyes dropped briefly to her lips.
The words sounded almost painful leaving him.
"To your love. To the way you look at me like I'm worth something."
A shaky breath escaped him.
Even saying it out loud made his heartbeat spiral out of control.
"I tasted your lips once and now my body remembers them constantly."
Juvia's eyes filled instantly.
With heartbreakingly deep love.
"I can still feel them," he admitted hoarsely.
"Every second of every day."
His hand rose slowly, fingers brushing tremblingly against her cheek.
"And the worst part isā¦"
A helpless laugh left him.
"I don't even want to stop."
The terrifying, sacred truth.
Because this was not corruption.
Terrible, beautiful salvation.
Juvia leaned into his touch with tears shining in her eyes.
"You don't have to stop," she whispered.
That nearly destroyed him.
Because she said it so gently.
Like loving him was not a burden.
Like carrying his fractured heart was something holy instead of painful.
Gray made a soft, broken sound before pulling her against him suddenly.
And when he kissed her this timeā
Hungry in the most emotional way imaginable.
Like he was trying to pour every unspoken feeling directly into her soul.
Juvia melted against him instantly, fingers gripping his shirt as his hands tightened around her waist almost possessively.
A kiss filled with grief and worship and surrender all at once.
The kind of kiss that says: I have fought this feeling until it bled me dry⦠and still I came back to you.
To the way she loved without restraint.
To the peace he found only in her arms.
To the unbearable certainty that somewhere along the way, she had become the only place in the world that still felt like home.
Her lips had become his favorite weakness.
And Juvia kissed him like she already knew.
Like she had known from the beginning that eventually his soul would find its way to hers no matter how fiercely he resisted.
And somewhere between the rain, the trembling breaths, and the way she held him like something preciousā
He was never drowning because of her.
He had been drowning his entire life.
Juvia was simply the first person who ever made him want to live.
Completely ruined by love at last.
