Fem Quanyin cosplayers at the party
I bought this skirt from an online children's clothing store. After the party, I left a public 5-star review of the skirt, attaching these photos from the party (including the last one). Some mom gave a dislike to my review. ššš

I tried to portray Quan Yizhen and Yin Yuās relationship from Yin Yuās perspective:
ā¾ A giant statue of Qying gently holds the just banished Yin Yu. For Yin Yu, this care feels suffocating; the sheer scale of his shidiās glory presses on him. The divinity of God Qying eclypsed Yizhen himself in Yin Yuās eyes, the abyss between them seems too big to preserve their relationship. ā¾ Or you can find another interpretation in symbolysm of statue: The stone statue ignores Yin Yu's anger and grievance. It's hard, deaf, and blind. Like Yizhen in situations where Yin Yu is vulnerable and harmed. Because Yin Yu never showed his anger and grievance out. He screams deeply inside, drowning himself down in lonelyness and disconnection with Yizhen.
Art for the Mid-Autumn festival Yin Yu here refers to the moon goddess Chang'e. According to legend, Chang'e may descend from the moon to earth to her beloved husband hero Hou Yi only on the Mid-autumn holiday. I believe that parallels between the legend of Chang'e and Quanyin were intended. The plot of the legend: Hero Hou Yi shot down the extra suns in the sky with arrows and saved the people from drought, and the gods gave him an elixir that would make him a celestial. But Hou Yi was not interested in heaven, he wanted to live on earth with his beloved wife Chang'e. He left the elixir at home and went off to do heroic deeds. Then the envious Panman sneaked into the house to take the elixir by force and become a celestial himself. Chang'e drank the elixir herself to prevent trouble, and flew to the moon. On this day, fate divided them into different worlds and they missed each other. In culture, they are compared to the moon and the sun, which cannot meet. Another version of the legend begins with the fact that Hou Yi and Chang'e were celestial beings, and the killed suns were the children of another god, but Hou Yi killed them anyway, solving the problem for mortal people radically. For this, both were banished from heaven. Chang'e scolded her husband for his guilty in making her mortal. And in order to help his wife Hou Yi started searching for elixir. If one person drinks it, he will become a god, and if two, they will gain immortality. The couple planned to drink it together, but Chang'e desired the second option ā to become a goddess - and secretly drank it alone, flew to the moon and was doomed to eternal loneliness. The endings vary from Hou Yi building a palace on the sun to Hou Yi dieing of grief.
There are many variants of the legend, but the general outline is the same ā there was an artifact intended for Hou Yi (a hero related to the sun), but Chang'e (related to the moon) suffered from it, either from her vanity to become a goddess, or "taking the damage on herself". In some stories she doesn't let a villain use an artifact in evil way. Then Hou Yi returns home and doesn't understand where is wife. On the same day when Chang'e became a goddess of moon, Jian Yu, against the rules, took the Brocade Immortal and gave it to Yizhen. Yin Yu dashed to take it off Yizhen, got punished for all the murders, fell from heaven and became a significant figure in the opposite "night" demonic world under the nameĀ XiĆ xiĆ”n YuĆØ ShĒ ā the Waning Moon Officer. And Quan Yizhen wasn't consiousness when all this happened, dissapearance of shixiong was a surprise for him. He missed and was searching for his shixiong in the mortal realm.
My illustration for quanyin reincarnation AU by Parameciam Yin Yu's soul reincarnated as a tree. Yizhen didn't know it is Yin Yu but feel peace and cosy near it. Fic has happy end and love story. Fic: https://archiveofourown.org/works/62574358/chapters/160164334

āļøCONTRIBUTOR SPOTLIGHTš
get ready for a gorgeous atmospheric piece from @blue-chatka in the upcoming quanyin zine!
psst...we're almost at release day!
I participated in zine :)
i made a cosplay based on art by Kazimo for Quan Yizhen's birthday!
on the parallels between hualian and quanyin
i'm not used to writing 'meta' posts (since i'm never confident about being able to convey my thoughts, so i try to spread my agenda through my fics and my characterization instead) but on @blue-chatka request and after getting to yap about this on QuanYin nation's discord server, i'm here to share the results of that conversation hehe
I've mentioned this a lot before, but I am a bit insane about the parallels that can be found between these two pairings, and it's quite obvious to me that QuanYin were meant to be a mirror to HuaLian, for the readers to trace those similarities (and divergences too).
I'll start by talking mentioning the ways Hua Cheng and Quan Yizhen parallel each other:
They were both 10 years old when they met their beloved
And by met, I mean were rescued, of course. From that moment on, both of them followed their respective beloved forever, out of a deep admiration that later would turn into absolute devotion.
Because yes, they both have an unwavering devotion to their respective God. If anyone tries to insinuate that Quan Yizhen's faith and devotion is not comparable to Hua Cheng's, I will bite their head off (first and only warning).
They both held to that devotion even when it was explicitly rejected by their respective God, endured that pain, and refused to take that as proof of their beloved being wicked, or evil.
In that same vein, they always kept believing in their respective God's benevolence and kindness.
They both endured the pain of separation, and looked for their beloved without pause.
They both hold the vision of their beloved so dear and close to their soul, and no matter what others think of their respective God, or how they're perceived for keeping that faith. And they defended the honor of their respective God when they were ridiculed and trampled upon, even through violent means. Hua Cheng and the 33 Heavenly Officials, Quan Yizhen and the routinely occurrence of beating his own devotees.
They both were street urchins that had to endure abuse, bullying and being misunderstood and shooed away by others. Hua Cheng routinely called a cursed child, Quan Yizhen called insane and constantly rejected.
They're both fiercely protective and would do anything for their beloved, except forcing them. This is a great moment to add that I think people misunderstand Quan Yizhen's character when it comes to boundaries: if those are explained, he would respect them. After all, he did follow Yin Yu's instructions and always tried to be good!
They both lack filters, even if it's for different reasons: they're both direct, and they both act as if they don't give a fuck about what other people think. But that's only partially true, since...
They both have Issues (tm) (like Hua Cheng's self esteem being abysmal and Quan Yizhen's abandonment issues). They just have to ignore the pain to keep going because if they don't, it would crush them.
They both prefer to work on their own rather than on a team or depending on others
They both struggle with writing and with paying attention to things they deem unimportant to them.
They don't want to have servants, helpers, company around them except for people they deeply trust and love (which is almost no one)
They both have exquisite places they could call home (Paradise Manor, Qi Ying's Palace) but as long as their beloved is not there, they would never consider it home.
Now, about Xie Lian and Yin Yu:
They were both banished and shackled, which is the most obvious and evident. They literally share a specific sort of pain, regret and shame that no one else in the cast can understand.
They both made One Big Mistake that they deeply, deeply regret, to the point that they subject themselves to having to carry that pain with them as atonement, a debt they have to repay. (Xie Lian took a second shackle; Yin Yu sacrificed himself for Quan Yizhen)
They were both rescuers for a child in need, and didn't care about things like their origin or appearance, or what other people would think of them for doing so (Xie Lian interrupting the parade; Yin Yu being constantly questioned for taking in such a problem child)
They both reassured the one they rescued that it was not wrong from them to be who they are, believed in them, and gave them a purpose to go on.
They are both people pleasers who ended up pleasing no one, enraging everyone and losing everything in the process.
Both get turned into laughingstocks for the ones that still remember about them, their image misunderstood and their story turned into gossip.
Both had trouble dealing with the customs and expectations in the Heavenly Court
They were both looked down upon for their kindness and ideals to, and nearly completely overlooked after they fell from grace.
They are both gentle and kind, looking misleading in their strength and getting underestimated, while remaining strong, capable and smart even in banishment (as we know since we follow Xie Lian's POV the whole novel, and we get to see Yin Yu's efficiency during the search for the Brocade Immortal and onward. Plus, come on, would Hua Cheng have him as a right hand man if he wasn't so reliable and capable?!)
They both dislike to be the center of attention, and avoid conflicts to the extreme, to the point that it ends up being worse
Both Xie Lian and Yin Yu are very patient and doting (we see how much they spoiled Hua Cheng and Quan Yizhen, one post canon, one during their disciple days) and end up overlooking/enabling their beloved's "flaws" (emphasis on the " ", please)
They both had an eye for talent, recognizing and fostering it;
They have a nurturing and protective nature
Some more mixed ideas:
Other obvious parallels are of course that they're both a pairing comprising a God and a Ghost;
Both couples have a strong connection to the Mid-Autumn Festival;
Both have one outgoing/"shameless" half, and a reserved/shy counterpart to it.
Of course they have a lot of differences too! I'm not tryin to say they are the same at all. In fact those differences are what makes them so valuable as mirrors/foils
The main difference being that where HuaLian excels in communicating, QuanYin is the complete opposite;
QuanYin separation is not from bad luck or external intervention but because of Yin Yu's avoidance;
Hua Cheng managed to make himself into exactly who he wanted to be, while Quan Yizhen struggled to find the answers he needed to understand the world without Yin Yu's guidance (which moves him to keep looking for him, to solve the mystery of what it was that went wrong, so he can fix it).
Xie Lian and Yin Yu's flavor of self-repression and bad coping mechanisms are different too.
That's it for now! Feel free to add more things and comment on this >:3 I'm sure I have more ideas about them, but I would probably enter the headcanon area of things, and I'd rather share that in replies instead of directly in this post. I swear it's much easier for me to share the ideas through writing them interacting in fics than elaborating on them like this @____@
And if you disagree with any of this... please be nice about it! <3
quanyin and hualian have some really cool parallels! also quan yizhen is bad at reading social cues but its not like yin yu ever verbalized his problems. at the end of the novel we were given proof that once yin yu talks about his issues it becomes easier for quan yizhen to empathize and understand. maybe no one will agree but i think if mxtx worked on quanyin they mightve been an even more complex couple than hualian since hualian never struggle communicating
YES all of this YES. thereās so many parallels between hualian and quanyin. Yin yu and xie lian are really similar in a lot of ways. And then thereās a parallel to be drawn between qyz admiration and hc devotion. The way they were both just desperately trying to catch up to their most important person and savior??
I agree with every word! I also see parallels between Quanyin and Hualian. Quan Yizhen demonstrated caring for thoseĀ ofĀ Yin Yuās feelings he could see. In the end ofĀ theĀ novel, for the first time, he realized that heĀ hadĀ acted wrong and heĀ regretted itĀ andĀ askedĀ for forgiveness. How one can say that Quan Yizhen canāt grow asĀ aĀ personality, if MXTX stopped his story at the start of this growth? I believe, if Yin YuĀ were toĀ say honestly and directly about his feelings, Yizhen would learn fast andĀ couldĀ become an attentive lover. He will never be able to read hidden feelings as most people can, but he can study Yin Yu asĀ aĀ foreign language, as his beloved martial art - everything he loves, every hint heĀ gives. He even remembered his manner of walking inĀ theĀ episode insideĀ theĀ mountain In my opinion, ifĀ Quanyin overcome difficulties and regrets, they may become a more healthy couple than Hualian. Because Quan Yizhen is not a demonĀ whoseĀ existence is determined by another person. He hasĀ theĀ choice to be together withĀ hisĀ shixiong orĀ notĀ to be together. He is interested in many things in this world and has his own hobby he can do alone. For this reason, I don't think that quanyin and Bingqiu are similar. When Yin Yu tellsĀ theĀ small Yizhen to go training, heĀ goesĀ training, he doesnātĀ askĀ for shixiongās attention allĀ theĀ time, doesnātĀ crawlĀ into his dreams, doesnāt try to rape (like Binghe did), to manipulate by killing Yin Yuās friends. Quan Yizhen is not jealous of other people surrounding Yin Yu. IĀ believeĀ he would beĀ gratefulĀ to everybody who helped Yin Yu afterĀ hisĀ banishment when Yizhen couldnātĀ have doneĀ it. He fights those who insult Yin Yu, butĀ notĀ to own Yin Yu. For me, Quanyin is a pairing in the sameĀ categoryĀ as Liushen and Hualian.

The TGCF Audio Drama released a mini theatre episode set during Quanyin's disciple days, and i did a rough translation of the dialogue in it! It shows how close QYZ and YY used to be before everything went wrong ;A;
[Context: The neighbouring sectās eldest shixiong bullies his younger shidi. QYZ saw it, was angered by the injustice and seems to have ripped up some of the tiles in the roof of the neighbouring sectās temple/monastery]
Translation below:
I want to save it for myself in my blog forever
This is an illustration for a Quanyin reincarnation AU fic. Yin Yuās soul didnāt return to his body but entered the rebirth cycle. He was born many times in different lifeforms. In one life, Yin Yu was a granny caring for orphans under the patronage of the Qi Ying Temple. Quan Yizhen was searching for his soul and had cute interactions with every incarnation.
This fic is unusual in how deeply and seriously it explores Quan Yizhenās feelings. The fic is written mostly from his point of view. Yizhen tries new ways to cope with his grief ā writing lyrics, painting, caring for his followers ā and he grows as a person. He makes friends with Xie Lian and Yushi Huang, and they become a cool company of gardeners who help each other with cows and potatoes :D
This is a story of the strongest love, but itās a very painful story. Yin Yu will die many times until he remembers and meets his beloved soul.

Quanyin clay figures in Yangshuo
Figures are made by me. Photos are taken in Yangshuo, Guangxi province, China
Quanyin clay figures in Beijing
Quanyin in Beijing. Forbidden City and Summer Palace
Last photo had problems with focusing and I combined several photos into one shot in one place.
Figures are made of clay by me
How I unwittingly sacrificed my journey to Beijing for photographing figures
This November, I took a big trip through China to Japan. My main goal was the Forbidden City. I booked a ticket in advance for a specific date, as they sell out quickly and you canāt buy them on the spot.
Right from early morning, Beijing started to get on my nerves. I wandered around in the wrong queue with thousands of Chinese retirees making their pilgrimage to Mao Zedongās mausoleum, and then I couldnāt find my way back, trapped by fences. By noon, I finally found the entrance to the Forbidden City (and a new queue).
Never mind, I had the whole day ahead! I started exploring the Forbidden City from its squares, where I found great locations for photographing figures. After the photoshoot was done, I proceeded to explore the inner pavilions to see the emperorsā treasures. But palace staff blocked my way and started closing the doors! Apparently, the Forbidden City closes at 4:30 PM, and staff started herding visitors out at 4:00 PM so the huge crowd could exit in time!
Ironically, the thing is, I chose Beijing for my journeyĀ onlyĀ because I wanted to see the palace exhibits. But the only thing I did there was take photos of Pei Ming and Quanyin figures. Thatās why I will not delete similar photos - the price was too high.

Quanyin are enjoying romantic trip in Yangshuo, Guangxi province. But not alone. Figures are made out of clay by me
When Yin Yu came home, a ready dinner and Quan Yizhen were waiting for him I made quanyin figures out of clay (6 cm tall) and bougt a doll house for them
