I can't believe I'm finally posting something fully fleshed out on tumblr. It's been forever (it hasn't, I'm just really lazy).

Did enjoy making this though, and I'm glad I put a bit of colour in there with the light blues.

I've only got one more crest left to make in the series though, so then I'm actually gonna have to think about other things to draw lol

It's the pen I use on all of my works and I made it myself ages ago.

I like the idea that Hornet's hearing is god awfully incredible. Like, to the point where it'd be annoying.

I'm sure we all know insects don't really have ears like humans do; they use different sensory organs such as antenna and hairs to detect things like vibrations, chemicals and pheromones.

In the case of spiders, they use small hairs across their body referred to as "setae" (there are a bunch of different types and sizes but that's for a different day) to detect vibrations and basically "hear" the world around them (of course not like humans do).

Going back to Hornet, obviously she is half weaver, and thus would inherit at least some of her traits from weavers (e.g. silk production). I have always drawn her with "setae" across her paws and head, and underneath her mask draw her horns as fluffy extensions on her head.

As Hornet doesn't have any antenna of any sorts in my design, these horns in my opinion would act as another sensory organ on top of the "setae" on her paws.

The fact that there's so much "setae" on these horns however contributes to my idea that her hearing would be incredible, almost scary even, but also incredibly sensitive. In her youth I imagine her growing sick of being able to hear so much.

I also like to think that her mask helps to dampen the noise a bit, almost acting like earmuffs in a way. The "setae" on her paws would technically be enough to detect vibrations in the surroundings, and she would obviously be able to hear stuff (remembering that this is a strange alien bug universe), it'd just be a lot more tolerable with the mask then without.

Ah yes, my gay little bugs finally lined and coloured. I wanted to make something for pride, even if it is only a week left but better late than never. Glad I could finally get it done!
