Sometimes I like to think of Ghost/The Knight once they become part of the void as this weird void puppy thing.
Like, the idea that because they're void they can almost transform into different forms tickles my brain so much. I also imagine they could take on forms of the different enemies they kill or something, I don't know.

Oh, it's just a small fantasy on what a horror story might come out of this!
...Imagine how scary it is to be left all alone, isolated in such a place. All you have is a small room in the lighthouse, in the middle of a chthonic land of all-consuming darkness. The fact that Void is dangerous for most living things does not make the situation any better; you will go insane.
"...Turn it off?... Cannot... My King. I'm sorry... The sea calls..." - are lighthouse keeper's last thoughts, which can be read if you use Dream Nail on their corpse. From their perspective, looks like something asked them to turn the lighthouse off.
There are also a lot of Shades near the lighthouse, more than anywhere else in the Abyss. They are aggressive and quickly return if you attack and drive them away. They leave if you turn the lighthouse on, so I assume they protect the lighthouse from being turned on; they do not like light. Void itself does not like light. So... did it ask to turn the light off?
I imagine it as a classic horror story about the lonely lighthouse keeper who starts out as a devoted Royal Retainer doing their job, but slowly goes mad from isolation and the feeling that Void itself speaks to them, without even words, persistently creeping into their mind - haunting, immense and incomprehensible, like the will of the darkness itself...
They also likely have no idea who Shades even are... seeing them hiding around, quietly staring with their glowing eyes, avoiding the light but ready to attack if you step into the dark... yeah, I imagine that would be doubly scary. The will of darkness can be just a paranoia caused by isolation, but seeing Shades staring from this very darkness is pure horror.
The Abyss is staring back at you...
The King will never return. No one will come. All they have is the light of the lighthouse that protects them, but they know the darkness wants to turn it off. The sea calls... the light dared to violate its realm, and now it will claim it back.

Pretty sure I didn't post this on this blog, so here's my Hollow Knight mandala I made for class once that took. a lot of time to draw.
Would you kill me if I made a Hollow Knight AU version of an OC that barely looks like a HK character? The lore for this version of him is that he was once a bug, and their soul was implanted into a vat of void.
Friend's Vessel OC, but looks pretty similar to the HK so I'll tag them as such
