How can I demonstrate or show this thought/emotion/character trait with the character’s actions?

Can I share this information without the characters just telling each other about it? Can I share it through action? (Inspired by KM Weiland)

What does the main character want, and how are the other characters purposefully or accidentally in the way of that? (Inspired by a lot of professional writers. I can’t remember where I first heard it. Sorry.)

What are the other characters, on and off screen, doing while this scene is going on?

How do people’s normal desires and personality traits and past life lessons create conflict? How do two characters understand and react to the same information differently? What tension between them can that create?

What is the worst thing that could happen? What’s the best thing that could happen, and how can I make it seem like the best thing is going to happen and then have it ripped away at the last second? (Inspired by Howard Tayler)

What can I do to make this more interesting?

What implications does this have for the rest of the story world? What questions does this raise?

11. What scenes or pieces of information in the beginning of the story can come back in the end? What devastating or useful parts of the ending can have roots or hints in the beginning?

13. What does the character want now, that gets in the way of what they want most?

14. What do they love? What do they fear?

15. What are the vices of their virtues?

16. What soul wounds are they hiding?

17. What things can they not see/understand no matter how often it is pointed out?

22. For a mystery plotline, what pieces do the characters have to know to be able to figure it out? (Can’t remember exactly where I heard this one, sorry.) How can I plant red herrings, or have the truth hidden in plain sight? How can I make them work for the information they need? How can I have it delivered in exciting ways, or ways that cost the characters? What order makes the most sense to deliver it in, and how should they be spaced out?
