you know i really wish i just hated this season because lestat was talking like he was on a drag race mini challenge. i wish it wasn’t as serious as flippantly cruel anti-blackness and the fundamental mischaracterization of virtually every character and the complete erasure of any love that may have existed between characters outside of their endgame pairings. i wish it wasn’t because of the erasure of trans identity, the constant punching down, the pointless retconning, the absolution of an abuse, the very obvious vitriol for the first two seasons and everything that the series has cultivated as a result of the first two seasons. i wish it was just the proverbial dangling of keys in front of the audience. i wish it was as simple as i heard “serving cunt has its consequences” turned off my laptop and never watched another episode
Jenny Diplacidi, Gothic Incest: Gender, Sexuality and Transgression. • tvl
And when a young beggar woman with a little child approached, [...] I looked into her eyes until I saw them glaze over. [...] I kissed her, feeding on her heat as I pushed the dirty cloth away from her throat, and I bent for the drink so skillfully that the sleepy child never saw it. Then I opened with careful trembling fingers the child's ragged shirt. This was mine, too, this little neck.
There weren't any words for the rapture. Before I'd had all the ecstasy that rape could give. But these victims had been taken in the perfect semblance of love. The very blood seemed warmer with their innocence, richer with their goodness.
lestat, tvl
[...] the losing of her behind a thousand closed doors, and cruel answers, and the terror of her and her complexity and her indifference and her indefinable strength. [...] So these moments had bound me to my mother. These moments had given us a love for each other unnoticed and probably unequaled in the lives of those around us.

[...]You see, they represented the greatest loss to Lestat, because they stood on the threshold of the maximum possibility of life. Of course, Lestat didn't understand this himself.
louis, iwtv
'My son, my son'; and then he said something I could not hear about innocence and innocence destroyed.
the marquis from louis' pov, iwtv
the dead hindquarters and the struggling forelegs, the huge innocent eyes rolling up into her head as the rattling cry came out of her. She was like an insect half mashed into a floor, but she was no insect. She was my struggling, suffering mare.

I wish Jacob Anderson a very I hope you can get out of this contract today
i don’t want to discuss the episode or the season as a whole. i didn’t like either of them and i have no interest in pretending otherwise. but paul saying, “thank you for loving him the way he needs to be loved” was so grotesque that it managed to make me angry all over again.

btw i don't think louis did anything wrong by putting up claudia's dress in his house. reading her diaries to bruce, sharing them w/ daniel, i understand her feeling upset/violated about that. but seance claudia being pissed off about the dress felt so weird to me, especially considering how poignant that s2 final scene felt.
like, the two items given pride of place in that space were claudia's dress and the portrait of paul. it was a space memorialising the family louis loved and lost. in some ways it might've functioned as a reminder of the ways he felt he failed them – an attempt at atonement (god knows louis is harder on himself about claudia than lestat/armand ever were). my favourite thing about that s2 scene was that the space focused on the people who were family to him, rather than defining him by his romantic relationships. he was finally on his own after many painful years with lestat and armand, and it felt like he was reconnecting with the people in his life that perhaps mattered the most. i didn't see it as selfish or self-indulgent at all. i don't remember anyone reading the scene that way when the episode aired.
but now in s3, we have louis saying it was "meant to honour [claudia]" and seance claudia angrily saying "oh yeah, cause that's what i wanna be, car fuel for your self-pity"... i don't understand the purpose of this exchange beyond the writers just wanting to shit on EVERY action/choice louis makes!!! like they just want to once again hammer home this season's narrative of him being supposedly an awful selfish bastard. WELL I'M NOT FALLING FOR IT!!!!! of course louis is imperfect but ur not gonna convince me that he's bad or selfish for memorialising a loved one wtf lol!!!!
For the record I've never seen a single interpretation of the train scene which had lestat threatening to rape Claudia. Using rape as a threat maybe but its not at all implied that it would come from him. That being said the way sexual abuse this season is treated as some sort of "special" abuse only committed by the worst of the worst is so reductive. We're told that yes, lestat would beat, emotionally abuse, and kill claudia, but would never rape her. Sexual violence here is committed by degenerates hiding in the shadows and cartoonishly evil mothers. It's the same rhetoric that leads people to accuse victims of lying because they dont believe their friend/family member would do anything that bad.
Like we watched lestat torture a man to death on screen. We watched him horrificly violate his mind. Is this someone committed to not doing harm? Like just say you see sexual abuse as worse than emotional and physical abuse because its "sexually perverse" and move on.
was there a contest for most racist episode ever
the finale making a point to connect when lestat was forced to watch the witches burn and when lestat forced claudia to watch charlie burn was the equivalent of when in del toro’s frankenstein victor is called the real monster

my dead wife. interview with the vampire
every so often society is doomed to repeat the tljc
Armand served more cunt in this one minute scene than anything lestat has done in 6 episodes of his own season
The entire season was Louis being humbled, his trauma being nothing but a joke, slurs being thrown at him, being decapitated, apologising to his abusers, saying he deserves no one, his suffering being treated as an inconvenience, and he is the most SELFISH person, he is the PIMP, he is the one who WRONGED everyone, he is the one DESERVES to go through all this
I keep trying to distract myself around the house but i just can’t stop crying. The sheer cruelty and gleeful cynism surrounding louis’ treatment is incomprehensible in its magnitude and overtness. it feels impossible to reconcile the compassionate treatment of louis and claudia’s abuse of the previous seasons with the horrifically mean-spirited antiblack and anti-victim writing we’ve had to endure for weeks. As it all settles, there is no way to view any of this other than through the lens of these writers vehemently hating louis and the people who dared regard him with love and empathy by pandering to the most racist confines of this online space.
My heart aches for jacob and the exploitation of his time, talent, and care for louis. My heart aches for the black writers who have to see their work desecrated for cheap twitter jokes and embarrassing failed attempts at virality. My heart aches for the black fans who love louis and earnestly wanted to see his story treated with the same level of care and respect afforded to his abusers and then having to sit through that violence.
Now more than ever, hannah moscovitch’ words saying that "louis would never not be believable as a victim" sound hollow and deliberately cruel and I can only hope this writing team will in time feel a fraction of the humiliation they inflicted on their audience for the crime of loving louis. I’m just absolutely gutted.
