Redraw! Featuring Princess Aurelina and some hot deer lady.
Tea with the Goddess-Queen?
Art and animation by... me!
The Empress - (Aurelina) The Emperor - (Silent_Iron) The Hierophant - (Gilson) A Commission series where I slowly make my way through the major arcana tarot deck set to a gold and black art deco style!
@sharpt00th and I found a furry relic from 1992!
The other week Lucius and I were watching old 90s commercials. Part of the reason I do this is to find examples of rare commercial animation. We were treated to this:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zyi23YaAqZc
Sprinklegator! A character created by Colossal Pictures and likely animated by Dave Feiss. Lucius and I were screaming. Notice the flip book add at the end? Very cool. We found a video of one of the flipbook. It was poor and you couldn’t see the action… but it was big action. As I noticed I grabbed Lucius and bounced and we were all excited. We HAD to get our hands on these!
Thanks to eBay, we were able to find copies of TWO of three of the flipbooks. The third we’ve seen and it wasn’t really anything good. Oh, but the other two!
After ordering and receiving them, we ported them to the computer in several steps:
Carefully take apart using x-acto knife
Scan each page
Cleanup
Stitch together into a GIF
Before I share our findings with you, check out this comic page of Sprinklegator’s ORIGIN STORY!
Thank goodness for that BIG HAM!
Yes, together Lucius and I made these 26 year old flip books with a cute anthro character into GIFS!
The first:
The second:
How cute! Some of you will appreciate that maw shot.
But the piece de resistance is this, which had Lucius and I shrieking when we first saw it upside down in a video showing one of the flipbooks: YES! MORE MAW SHOTS AND UNEXPECTED WEIGHT GAIN!
What I love about it is not just that he’s fat, but PEAR SHAPED fat with a big belly and bottom. In a word, he’s perfect. I hope you enjoy Sprinklegator! 26 years in the making. To my knowledge no repository of weight gain in cartoons is aware of this sequence!
We’re such superfans (perhaps the better phrase is fat furry historians) that @sharpt00th even did some art! Check it out over at his page or in his reblog of this post. Full gif sizes available at my twitter, Prettyflowerdog

She's all I can think about, and I've been researching her for several days. It's high time we talk about Elsie, the Borden Cow. @elsieborden this post’s for you!
Elsie was spokescow for Borden, a dairy company that at one point was udderly massive. She debuted in 1937 as a series of ads in medical journals, but soon appeared in real life at the 1939 New York World's Fair.
Millions came to see "You'll Do, Lobelia" who had donned the stage name "Elsie" as would a select number of cows in the future. This real life Elsie was by all accounts a ham and a sweetheart.
While the real Elsie attended debutante balls and many charity appearances, her anthropomorphic cartoon persona began to appear in magazine ads starting around 1941. This is how she would be best remembered, along with her little calf Beulah and husband Elmer.
Her popularity was enormous, and I've even come across apocryphal accounts of Elsie being used as a pinup girl on nose art and servicemen's lockers during World War 2. I can see why!
Some of you may not be aware, but Elsie's husband Elmer is the bull on the bottle of Elmer's Glue! (And, by the way, the glue was made from milk, and is now synthetic; so don't go making any untoward insinuations). Isn't he handsome?
Notably, Elmer had a bit of a temper - one supposes that was normal for the 1940s. Here, luckily, Elmer was 'only' raring to shoot war-time price scalpers.
These full-text magazine ads would appear in publications such as Life or The Saturday Evening Posts, and proved to be immensely popular. Walter Oehrle (spelled often as 'Early') did the beautiful art. Elmer can't get enough cake!
When Elsie had a baby in 1947 (a little boy) a contest to name him garnered 1,000,000 entries, more than any contest up to that time. She later had twins in 1957, Larabee and Lobelia (a callback!) and the contest for naming them also set a record for entries.
Elsie helped sell more than $10,000,000 in U.S. War Bonds, was given three honorary doctorates, and held keys to over 200 cities. Along with countless other awards, she was Queen of Dairyland, and a lovely queen at that.
In the 50s, 70s, 90s and even recently, Elsie has appeared in commercials. The earliest commercials were still images, and only later did she become animated. She was voiced by Hope Emerson, a professional strongwoman and vaudeville actress.

And recently! Why, yes, Elsie must be bilingual!
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NoebiSjCy1w
Elsie and family appeared in a radio show, Happy Island, in the 1940s. Ed Wynn (the voice of The Mad Hatter in Disney's Alice in Wonderland) starred in the show. Elsie herself even appeared in the 1940 film "Little Men." You can still see a real Elsie at the Texas State Fair!
Why yes, Elsie did have her own comic book series!
Complete with the sickest burn of all time.
A survey done in the 1940s showed that 98 percent of Americans recognized Elsie - more than among others, Mickey Mouse presidential candidates of the time. In 2000, Advertising Age named Elsie as one of the top 10 advertising icons of all time.
Even though the Borden name was bought out in 1995, Elsie remains a mascot on many products including milk through Dean Foods and cheese through the Dairy Farmers of America.
Full disclosure: while researching her I ran out to buy some Eagle Brand Sweetened Condensed Milk and Borden American Cheese - all I could get out here in California. The former made a dreamy pitcher of milk tea (w/ Earl Grey) and I'm still making grilled cheese with the latter!
My final two cents? Elsie was an is an icon: cool as a cucumber and smart as a whip. Oh, and I have an absolute crush on her. How could I not?

Let's talk about blimps and humanity's fascination with them.
The word "Blimp" comes (likely) as an onomatopoeia from Lt. A.D. Conningham of the British Royal Navy, who thumped a blimp and attributed the word to the sound it made.
Blimps are non-rigid, while zeppelins and dirigibles are rigid, though the term "dirigible" just means that something can be steered, and as such could be applied to a non-rigid blimp.
Blimps have long been the subject of fascination and the subject of dangerous air shows, or of futuristic imagination. It has been thought many times that the viability of blimps in a wide variety of applications is slowed only by the present technology.
The Navy used blimps throughout World War 2, with 145 blimps being built between 1942-1945 to serve as patrol ships or training ships.
Blimps are also round and vast enough to have encroached on the domain of the cryptic and unknown.
Even advertising giants the size of whales have used blimps to push their product, because, as Goodyear knows, blimps are eye-catching and fascinating.
Blimps have also been the subject of war-time children's books: in “Blossom the Brave Balloon,” the titular airship is fed "Strawberries and cream, chocolate ice cream, and meringues." That's one way to fatten a blimp, I suppose.
To find out just how magical the blimp really us, look at these excerpts from the book, Blimp!, which is about as obsessed with the big bags as you can imagine...
All in all, we owe much to the blimp, and if someone should find it of interest to draw art of animal people that resemble one, then perhaps they should be proud to represent such a glorious and popular bag of gas through their efforts. When are we getting a blimp emoji??
