Me (A time traveler visiting 20-year old Mozart): OK, so, this is called an electric guitar, basically instead of the body functioning as a resonance chamber, it produces music by harnessing the power of lightning. Do you have any other questions?
Mozart (Currently shredding Violin Concerto No. 1 on the guitar, having figured it out within 30 seconds): What other music can be made from harnessed lightning?
Me (Loading up some heavy dubstep): Oh, we're just getting started.

you have to go as fast as you can
"going out to get milk" is a common turn of phrase used to describe a man abandoning his family.
the "milkman" is a common figure in stories depicting a woman's infidelity and adulterous affair.
this implies that the ability to provide milk would both decrease the likelihood of a man abandoning his wife and children, as it would eliminate the need for leaving to get milk AND would secure that man's marriage, as his wife would have no need to seek milk from an extraneous source.
therefore, all men should produce milk, through various means such as:
- being a cow
- being an almond
- being a woman
- being a coconut
- being in the omegaverse
- being an oat
(list is exemplary and not finite)
in this essay, i will redefine the nuclear family and explain the seductive and inflammatory nature of the 1993 "Got Milk?" commercials.

when did “working class” stop meaning “labor” and start meaning “belligerently closed-minded dirtbag White people”
Anyone trying to tell you there was a mythical time when Labor movements didn't also have insane issues with racism is trying to sell you kitschy anodyne Blair Mountain Anarchist merch because it's about. Or possibly some other kind of dipshit ideology. At this point it signifies a myopic mythologization of history as a costume for downwardly mobile failchildren more than it is an actual 'class signifier' and is frequently advanced by people who in their next breath say "No War but the Class War" and go on to ignore all the intersections of class, gender, and race.
This is not me waving a Gadsden flag and saying "Labor movements Bad long live unrestricted business corporations" but rather... History is complex. Labor movements were frequently segregated.
To mark Labor Day and Chicago’s long history of labor activism, CHM assistant curator Brittany Hutchinson recounts how the Pullman Company’s
Bosses and owners frequently leveraged racial and national divides by hiring black or immigrant workers to 'scab' for them during strikes.

If I’m not mistaken Trump just signed over more money to Iran ($300 B) in a day than the US has sent to Israel in the last 25 years (~ $130-150).
However much you hate Trump, you don’t hate him enough.
The line I’ve heard from Jewish Trump supporters for the last 3 years is that he’s good at diplomacy with dictators in the Middle East because he “speaks their language”.
And no shit he does. Because he’s one of them. He “speaks the language” of authoritarian dictators with no regard for human rights because he’s a mobbed-up authoritarian wannabe dictator with no regard for human rights.
And what you need to understand is that this also goes the other way: they speak his language. They can get him to fold as long as they give him big flashy airplanes, and stroke his ego and pad his wallet enough.
He talks rough, and he’ll bulldoze anyone who gets in the way of what he wants, not because he’s actually strong, but because he’s an infantile spoiled brat who demands his way. This is exactly the same reason he also rolls over and barks like a dog the second he’s promised a treat.
What he wants is not what you want, no matter how much he tries to sell you that line. He is out for himself, the rest of us be damned.
He’s not the Ayatollah whisperer. He just wants to be a member of whatever club the Ayatollah is in.

every once in a while i'll come across an essay claiming to interpret the holocaust in some sort of anti-colonialist way and it'll boil down to something like "the reason the holocaust is considered a big deal is because it was the first time european genocidal tactics were applied to White People instead of its usual victims #antiracism" and like, even putting aside the truly horrific implication that Jewish holocaust victims were just Normal European White People getting a taste of their own medicine, it is also simply not a true assessment about the historical significance of the holocaust! i cannot believe it is possible for people to be this ignorant and disrespectful about a subject with so much accessible, premium scholarship about it freely available and also i am going to start throwing things maybe
An Gorta Mór ran from 1845-1852 and caused over a million deaths and a 20-25% drop in population in Ireland, and this teaches us a few very important things:
There is at least one example of white Europeans being targeted by white European genocidal tactics at least a century before the Holocaust,
The fact that the Irish are generally understood to be at least as “white” as Jews if not more so has done absolutely nothing to ensure that everyone takes the explicitly genocidal policies enacted against them seriously as genocide, which, to be clear, they were, and
Perhaps “whiteness” vs. “non-whiteness” is actually a very poor metric for all forms of racialized hatred literally anywhere other than USAmerica (and even there tbh!)
Like obviously this take on the Holocaust is antisemitic and terrible, but more than that, it’s weird the degree to which it fundamentally relies on playing apologist not just for the Holocaust, but also for a tremendous number of other genocides as well. Why do you hate the Irish so much? Why do you hate Ukrainians? What did the Cherkess ever do to you? How about Serbs? Bosniaks and Croats? Is your contention that the Cathers weren’t white, or that their elimination in France wasn’t genocide? How many genocides will you die on the hill of defending just to make this ridiculous ahistorical Holocaust take sound even halfway reasonable???
The answer is always “they haven’t thought that far” but my genuine question is why. Because it seems like it would take a whole lot of not just unchecked privilege but actual willful ignorance to even entertain the idea that the Holocaust was a uniquely white-on-white genocide. Why did you feel the need to make this unforced error? What is it about the Holocaust specifically that had you spouting off at the mouth before you even stopped to think about whether or not you were actively engaged in unrelated genocide denial?
Will also note that the framing of "we only recognize it as a genocide if the people victimized were of a specific deeply historically oppressed status AND were victimized by people we are ostensibly in strong ideological opposition to/by US empire" was a huge problem in some of the tankier spaces and should have been recognized as both a massive harm and an oversight/vulnerability just waiting for antisemites to eventually exploit, rather than further normalized once they did.
Like one of the biggest tragedies OF the left is that genocide denial wasn't collectively squashed instead of everything from pro-Stalin Holodomor denial, denial of the Cambodian genocide, denial of the Balkan genocide, confusion over the Rwandan genocide, near-complete overlooking of the genocide of Uyghurs, near-complete overlooking of the Myanmar genocide, minimization to this day of the genocidal intent of Russia toward Ukrainians, etc all being something one didn't have to go too far to find...
And worse, any left analysis reducing genocide to "something that can only be done on the basis of a specific American type of race-based oppression" *also* actively excludes femicide/extreme misogyny (which is probably THE most common historical and present genocidal activity globally), that of the disabled of all races and ethnicities (also depressingly common and still present worldwide), and the intentionally genocidal targeting of LGBTQI people (lots of places historically, present Uganda, and the current US regime is headed there too)
All of that's why honestly the best stance, and one I wish more people would take is that genocide is eminently preventable by cutting it off at its sources: bigotry, prejudice, dehumanization, and hatred. Which can, unfortunately, be over anything. Which can even be inflicted laterally with one oppressed people hating another, or even in rare occasions upward (e.g. Cambodia as a class example, where people were targeted for being intellectuals or seeming to have "more" than they "should," at least according to Pol Pot) And that because of all of that, no one is immune to either becoming perpetrator or victim, which is WHY we have to ideally stop it before it happens within ourselves and within our societies and, if it does happen, recognize it for what it is and demand it stop.
