Character-voice is I think one of the hardest parts of writing and here's two charts to explain my thoughts on why.
The intention:
The thing I think is maybe happening which I have no idea how to check or prevent:
Can you do a prufemcan oneshot? They meet at a hockey game and theyâre from opposite teams who end up sitting next to each other due to assigned tickets. Gil meets this innocent looking girl but the moment the game starts she turns into a screaming fireball and thats the moment he falls for her. Thank you âĽď¸ Happy Holidays!
CV: Thank you so much for your patience! The holidays became busier than I thought they would, and then I had to deal with some mental health bull almost right afterwards. Your request was so cute and fun to write for though and I hope you like it! And I hope you had happy holidays as well!
-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-
âB14⌠B14⌠B14âŚ" Gilbert murmured under his breath, eyes traveling between his ticket, to the seats and back. The aisle was packed, and he was doing his best not to just run through to the bottom of the steps, barreling through the crowd just for some semblance of personal space.
A large man next to him elbowed him sharply in the rips. Angry, he turned to confront the man only to see him sheparding a little girl into the next row. She looked more nervous in the crowd than he was. Like a deflating balloon, Gilbertâs anger went away and he continued down the steps.Â
The crowds may make him anxious, but seeing the game upfront and personal would be well worth it. He hoped that little girl was in the same mindset.Â
When he finally got to his seat, only the chair to his left was occupied, leaving him with a little space to breathe. As he slumped into his seat, he stared through the hard glass that surrounded the rink, noting really how close he was. This was going to be awesome.
âExcuse me. Sorry, excuse me,â a high-pitched, yet soft voice met his ear from the right, and Gilbert looked up to find a girl moving her way through the crowd, far less successfully than he himself had. Another nervous one for the crowd. It seemed the audience was collecting them today.

It had been a dreadful six hours. Well, itâd been a little longer than that, but heâd been kicked out of left the room a few hours into the labor and had been pacing outside of the doors ever since. His title of hero seemed so useless to him now; Hero of Time, and he could do nothing to support his wife. His Zelda was in there, in pain and worry andâ
The doors to the room opened and Linkâs feet halted immediately.
âPrince Link?â came the voice of the doctor. He turned to look at him, fighting the urge to fiddle with his shirt like a child.
âHow is she?â he asked, taking an anxious step closer.
âThe Queen is resting,â the doctor replied with a slow nod. âShe will be on bedrest for a few days, but sheâs alright.â
âAnd-â A swell of emotion made the lump in his throat hard to swallow, â-our daughter?â
âSheâs perfectly healthy. Youâre welcome to go back in. The Queen grants you her permission.â

if you read all of this, thank you. i realized that i need this creative outlet for my sanity, but i know it will only be beneficial when i put the work in to build up this blog.

âGentlemen and Herbivoresâ
The world was eerily silent with Ganon gone. She had heard nothing but the awful, metal-on-metal screams of his malice for 100 years. Then she was suddenly temporal, and earthbound, and it took three days for the ringing in her ears to fade.
Link coaxed her gently back towards corporeality, towards a normal life. He reintroduced hot meals and warm baths, soft blankets and softer moonlight, and the calm, swaying pace of a midsummer day in Hateno was the reassuring metronome by which she measured her progress.
Some nights, sitting with him under the apple tree overlooking town, afraid of sleep, fighting it, she would find herself nestled against his shoulder, and his arm would circle her waist. And in those fleeting moments before she dreamed, she would feel warm, and safe, and weightless, and sleep wouldnât seem so frightening anymore.
The feeling rising up in her now was none of those things. This was hot and prickling, clenching in her stomach and her jaw, pounding and hazy and violent. He smiled, and they laughed, and they touched his arm when they thanked him, and her vision turned redder.
This⌠was not pleasant.

Prompt: rey and Ben are engaged and theyâre planning their wedding and Leia has all these things they MUST DO and so does Rey side and everyone has opinions and Rey is about to break down that Ben spends a few moments at the engagement party to calm her down
Getting married was hard.
Accepting the proposal to get married was easy. When Ben had dropped to one knee and held out the ring he had purchased to Rey (a diamond beset by two sapphires) she had practically screamed her acceptance before he had even got the words out. She finally agreed to restrain herself when it became clear that Ben had been rehearsing these words for days. Maybe weeks. It would be rude not to listen to them.
Allowing him to slip the ring onto her finger had been as natural as taking a breath.
Preparing a wedding where they committed to that promise forever⌠well, that was not proving so easy.
It wasnât the commitment that scared her; it was that there was so much to do. She had spent a whole day looking through bridal magazines while trying to find a good wedding dress. She had tried to google venues but got scared of the prices after half an hour.
The idea of getting married at a large event with a grand flowing dress began to scare her. Saying their vows in a garden full of flowers with a summer dress began to look more appealing.
Leia had been overjoyed at the news. Not only did she finally have her son back but he was in love with a girl that she actually approved of. As a result, Leia insisted upon throwing them a party to celebrate.
Rey had only been to parties that were thrown by Finn and Poe; parties with paper plates, triangle sandwiches and cheesy wotsits. So when she stepped into the City Hall Leia had rented and saw the waiters with champagne on trays, canapĂŠs that looked like they cost more than Reyâs monthly shopping and a gaggle of glamorous individuals, she had felt a mad urge to run.
Ben seemed exasperated but not surprised.
âMy mother always did like a fuss.â He muttered to Rey.
Finn, Poe and Rose dashed over. Rose was looking very lovely in a red dress and kissed Rey on the cheek. Finn and Poe tried to paint on convincing smiles.
Her engagement to Ben had been something of a shock to them but they seemed determined to make the best of it on reflection. If only for Leiaâs and her sake.
âI didnât expect all this fuss.â Rey babbled, looking around in stunned disbelief.
âItâs not every day my only child marries a woman I approve of.â Leia announced, sidling up to them from behind and tilting her head to show she expected a kiss from Ben. He rolled his eyes but complied.
âSo, have you set on a date?â Poe asked.
âNot yet, no.â
Rey shook her head.
âBetter get a move on then. I hear that spring is a nice time to get married.â Rose pointed out.
Rey imagined the flowers blooming all around her as she walked down a lawn towards Ben. âYes, that would-â
âWell, a winter wedding would also be nice.â Leia said complacently. âAll the diplomats will be in town and no doubt will want to come.â
âCome?â Rey asked feeling mounting confusion.
âMother, I donât know any of those people.â Ben interjected.
âBut they know you, Ben. Well, when you were younger they did. They will want to see you made an honest man.â
âI heard DâQar Manor is free.â Holdo interjected, coming up to join the conversation. âIt would certainly be a great place for the occasion.â
âDâQar Manor?â
Rey chocked. She had only seen the place at a distance. It was huge and to just see the price of hiring on the internet had made her slam her laptop shut in alarm. âBut we canât afford that!â
âYou wonât need to, dear!â Leia laughed. âIâm paying for the venue.â
Rey jibbered but luckily Ben cut in. âWe havenât even picked a venue yet. And Iâm not exactly living off canned food. I have money of my own.â Rey could tell that he sounded rather irritated.
âLet her pay if she wants to.â Finn shrugged. âIt will be more for you to spend on Reyâs dress.â
âOh! I saw this gorgeous dress by Vera Wang in my magazine!â Rose squeaked. âYou would look beautiful in it!â
âVera Wang!?â Rey spluttered. âI canât afford-â
âYou are marrying into royalty.â Holdo interjected. âMoney wonât be an issue again.â
Rey wasnât as comforted by this as she should. Suddenly her visions of wearing a simply dress with flowers in her hair as they stood beneath a blossom tree was beginning to melt away. Instead she was being forced in a dress that cost more than her flat and half the guests she wouldnât know whether to bow or curtsey to! Â
Rey made an excuse to use the toilet and dashed towards the ladies. Her wedding⌠because it was meant to hers, wasnât it?⌠was being taken from her. Â
Sitting down on the toilet lid of the cubicle she had locked herself in, her eyes began to water traitorously. Sheâd never been one to dream of her wedding â but surely it wasnât meant to make you feel so trapped?
There was a gentle knock. âRey?â
Reyâs head shot up. âBen?â She opened the cubicle and peeked out. Ben was stood before her looking worried. âYou canât come in here! Itâs a ladies!â
âWell, Iâve always wanted a look at a girlsâ toilet. Certainly smells better than the gentsâ.â Ben peered at her. âYouâve been crying.â
âNo, no!â Rey wiped her eyes which didnât help her argument. âJust⌠allergies.â
Ben sighed and drew her to him. âWe donât have to do any of that stuff. Itâs our wedding and if you want to get married in a shed, we can.â
âItâs justâŚâ Rey felt very stupid voicing her concern. âI didnât realise there was so much⌠expectation.â
âNow you know why I wanted to leave at a young age.â Ben shrugged. âIf people want to run away with plans then let them. But we have the final say and if you donât want such a fuss then we wonât.â Ben stroked her hair. âBesides, Admiral Akbar always disliked me anyway. All because I said he had eyes like a fish when I was eight.â
Rey breathed out a laugh. It was such a relief to know that Ben had read her concern.
And also a joy to know that her resolution to marry him had only strengthened as their family and friendsâ quarrelled about canapĂŠs.
Why do you care travlyn
âWhy do you care?â She dropped the armor plate onto the table, it wasnât like sheâd be able to focus on cleaning it anymore. Deciding to finish tomorrow, she turned around and leaned against the table. âA lot of people have a family.â
âBut you never talk about yours.â Travis stepped through the low doorway, ducking to avoid hitting his head.
Katelyn shook her head, her bangs following after her. âAnd Iâll ask again, why do you care?â
âBecause I want to know you better.â He sat down in one of the few chairs in the room, looking at her expectantly. âIsnât that how love works?â
She had to give it to him, he was convincing with those puppy dog eyes and his tail almost wagging behind him. She couldnât help but concede, âYou remind me of my dad sometimes, you know that?â
âWait seriously? Your dad?â
She threw the rag she was cleaning with on the table, âHe used to always ask me what was wrong when I was upset, and then just let me rant before hugging me for what felt like hours.â Her thoughts compared memories of hugs from him, and from Travis. Very similar, protective almost.
âHe was nice to be around, and kept my brothers and me in line. No small feat,â she chuckled, âFirefists, we live up to the name.â
âThink Iâll ever be able to meet him? Say thanks for raising someone like you, maybe?â
Katelyn stopped, her memories turning sour as they continued down the line. âIâŚâ Hugs when she came home to visit, finally able to relax her shoulders and smile with family. A rest from her fears, fears for them and their lives. She could see them right in front of her, telling her that theyâre ok. That sheâs doing great, that theyâre proud.
She could have visited them before boarding that ship, before sailing to a small village with a single dock and a thick forest around it. She didnât, because she didnât think much of it right to the end. She didnât want to think when they ran around in a world that marched ahead of them, and when a war loomed over her head.
But now? Now she was. Was home still full of warm fires and heavy drinks to enjoy? Did cousins and nieces and nephews still sprint around before getting pinned down by their exasperated parents?
Was it waiting for her?
âKatelyn? Are you alright?â
âIâm fine, just some things I forgot. Thatâs all.â
Mid-youth crisis.
(Hi sorry itâs been awhile! Iâm back for the summer tho cause ya girl graduated uni with a 2:1 and is now a qualified zoologist woop woop!! But anyway hereâs some Plance drabble Iâve thrown together to celebrateđđ)
There was a hurried knock against the metal, abruptly ripping Pidge from her sleep. She jolted upright at her desk, an undignified stream of saliva running across her cheek.
There was another bombardment of knocks, followed by a hushed voice âPidgeâŚâ
The green paladin brushed the back of her hand against her cheek, padding rather unenthusiastically towards the door. Seconds later, it peeled back to reveal a rather distressed Lance, fidgeting on the spot.
âWhat are you doing here?â
âI need your help.â the panic was evident in Lanceâs tone of voice. Pidge rolled a frown across her face, squinting away the sleep from her eyes.
âItâs three in the morning, what could you possibly need help with?â
Lance relaxed his shoulders, holding out his hand. As his fingers uncurled, a small object came into view. It was a chunk of metal, several wires poking out of one end. Pidge blinked, then palming at one of her eyes.
âWhatâs that?â
âIt fell off Coranâs holo-desk.â
Pidge was in no way fooled by his voice. âIt fell?â
Lance screwed up his face, and with a loud sigh met her gaze. âI may have helped it fall."Â
There was a deep exhale, Pidge pressing her fingers against her temple. âLanceâŚâ
"What?! I was bored and I couldnât sleep. I didnât mean to and the next thing I knew it was-â
Pidge took the piece of metal from his hand, inspecting it thoroughly. Her bleary eyes made the task take longer than she intended, her gaze often flitting between the metal and a distressed Lance. An audible sigh left her lungs, shoulders drooping before Pidge handed the thing back to him.
âOkay, okay. Iâll help you.â
Lance leapt forward, a little further into Pidgeâs personal space than she would had preferred. This was mainly due to the fact it forced a heat to the tips of her ears, only worsened when he clasped his hand around hers.
âThanks Pidge, I owe you one,â his voice was flooded with relief, his brows upturned in a brief moment of content.
Pidge could do nothing but scowl at the Cuban boy, already wondering why she was going to help him and she hasnât even stepped out of her room. Something was clearly wrong with her.
Before Pidge could voice her regret, Lance pulled her out in to the corridor and in the direction of the castles centre. The brisk pace he was moving at didnât agree with Pidgeâs exhausted frame, her legs reluctantly padding along beneath her. If that wasnât enough, the exhaustion made the journey feel as if she had walked for a day.
By the time the pair finally found themselves in front of the door that concealed the holo-desk, Pidge was wide awake, though her eyes still stung from her interrupted sleep. The door pulled itself open as Pidge rubbed the final remnants of sleep from her eyes. Lance had been babbling about something whilst they had walked, but not a word of it had registered in her mind as she had been too focused on how she was going to make him suffer for this.
âAnd Coran told me it was possible to play monsters and mana on your own but I thought âsurely notâ⌠So when I tried to find the single player mode I must have hit the wrong thing.â
âMhmm.â Pidge hummed in reply, still not entirely listening to what he was saying.
Couldnât this have waited till tomorrow?
âAnd that happened.â Lance added, pointing to the desk he now stood beside. His finger was aimed towards a small hole in the frame work, surprisingly no where near the buttons that controlled the settings.
âHow on earth did you manage that?â Pidgeâs brows creased as she knelt down to inspect the damage. Lance couldnât tell if it was surprise or irritation that resided in her tone of voice, either way it probably wasnât good.
He copied Pidgeâs movements, kneeling beside her to peer into the small gap. âCan you fix it?â
Pidge wanted to answer him with a sarcastic quip, she really did.
Yet in that moment she had become horrendously aware of how close to her Lance was. His light breathing thundered in her ears, and the smell of his awful cologne occupied the space between them.
Had he always smelled this good?
Instead, all she could muster was an incredibly flustered nod, and an attempt to cover her now reddened cheeks. She couldnât let him see her like this.
âCould-could you er, fetch my tools whilst I assess the situation a little further?â The reluctancy of the words to leave her throat made the resulting sentence sound a little hoarse, but Pidge was praying Lance would put it down to her exhaustion.
âSure. Where are they?â
Pidge coughed into her hand, a feeble attempt at steadying the growing quiver in her chest. âTheyâre in the lab, second secure cupboard the the right. The password is Sputnik.â
Lance scrunched up his nose, casting his glance sideways to raise a sceptical eyebrow at her. âSpud-what?â
Pidgeâs hands stopped their investigative poking at the protruding wires as her shoulders dropped, head swinging to look up at the blue paladin.
âNot spud. Sput. Sput-nik. It was the first artificial Earth satellite. Itâs pretty interesting actually I-â
âPidge, as much as Iâd love to hear about the potato satellite, I donât wanna get my ass handed to me by Coran tomorrow so Iâm gonna go get your tools now,â Lance announced as he got to his feet. Within a tick he was beside the door, sparing a quick glance over his shoulder back at the green paladin before disappearing down the corridor.
That particular green paladin now had a smirk accompanying the red hue on her face, rolling her shoulders with a grin.
âWorked like a charm."Â She sighed, leaning her head back onto her shoulders. Now she had some time to figure out what the hell was going on with her stomach. It felt like sheâd ingested hoard if tiny butterflies. Was she coming down with something?Â
Sheâs have to run some diagnostics in the infirmary tomorrow.
*****
Lance stared hard at the computer on the cupboard. The Altean technology often left him baffled and this was no exception. The screen in front of him, like many in the castle, was glowing blue and littered with a variety of illegible symbols. This particular piece of Altean technology he had only encountered once before whilst hanging out with Hunk in the Lab. It was now that he wished he had payed more attention to the devices. Lance felt his brows furrow.
"Computer?â
The screen changed in less than a tick, causing the Cuban boy to blink several times. After his eyes had adjusted to the lighter screen, Lance took a step closer. The new symbols looked vaguely like they were asking for a password. Perfect.
âSpudnik.â
Nothing. No change in screen or sound to indicate the door was now unlocked. Lanceâs frown deepened, him even giving the handle a precautionary tug to see if it was in fact open.
Unfortunately not.
âSpud-nik,â Lance repeated, this time with a little more determination in his voice.
Again, nothing.
It was now that Lance could feel the frustration beginning to grow at the base of his skull, an irritated sigh escaping his lungs.
âStupid satellite.â He grumbled under his breath, arms folding across his chest. âSpudnik.â He said it a little louder. Again, nothing.
Lance swore under his breath, fingers now beginning to dig into his palms as he balled his fists. He filled his lungs to calm himself, before he felt an idea pop into his head.
He was going to attempt to reason with the thing.
âListen here you dumb computer, youâd better open up now other wise Iâm gonna be in deep shit. Iâve given you the password Pidge gave me so⌠yeah. Open please.â He pulled at the handle. Once. Twice. Three times. Each time, repeating the word Pidge had told him.
âSpudnik, Spudnik, Spudnik, Sputnik, Spu-â
Click.
***
âWhere the hell have you been?! Youâve been gone 20 minutes.â Pidge flung her head around at the sound of the door opening. In the doorway, stood the skinny figure of McClain, arms gasped around her toolbox.
âYour dumb password didnât work.â He sighed, brows knitted together in an exhausted frown. He plodded over to Pidgeâs side, falling to his knees gracefully before placing the box down with an indignant clunk.
âYou mean you didnât say it right.â Pidge quipped, a small smirk on her lips as she returned to the whole in the holo-desk. Her right hand reached for her tools, flicking the lid opening and grasping a spanner without even sparing a glance.
âYouâre a cruel woman, Pidge Gundersonâ Lance said with a sigh, sinking back onto his heels to sit by her side. His eyes scanned studiously as Pidge dug deeper into the desk.
Pidge gave a snort, and turned to smirk back at the blue paladin, âI prefer the term âevil geniusââ.
A second after the words left Pidgeâs mouth, a larger section of the desk fell to the ground, the clang of itâs impact reverberating throughout the room.
Silence.
Pidgeâs eyes had stayed locked on Lanceâs face, watching as his lips curled up into a smile, and then split as an almighty chuckle left his throat.
âEvil genius, my ass.â
Pidgeâs eyebrows raised, the spanner she held now pointing up at Lanceâs face. âWatch it, McClain. I can still kick that ass.â
âProve it.â
âUnfortunately, we donât have time⌠unless I let Coran do it for me in the morningâ
âHey! You made the hole bigger, youâd be in as much trouble as me!â
âYou donât have any proof of that Cuban boy.â She didnât even bother to look at him, mind preoccupied with the clump of wires that had fallen into her hands.Â
âDonât I?â
âShut up and hold these for me.â
âBu-mrph-â
Pidge shoved the tangled mass onto Lanceâs chest, his arms frantically trying to stop them from falling out of his grasp. The green paladin snorted at his short struggle, before peering into the hole she had now created. A small blue light sat nestled in more wires in front of her.
This was going to take a while.Â
The next few moments were spent in easy silence, Lance watching intently as Pidge tried her best to repair that damage they had both caused. Once Pidge switched tools, Lanceâs interest piqued, causing him to shuffle closer to her and lean over Pidgeâs shoulder to get a better look. âWhatâs that?â
The question itself seemed innocent enough, but Lanceâs quiet tone being so close to her ear made Pidgeâs heart rate leap to an impossible speed. She cautiously turned her head to look him in the eye, but faltered as the heat spread across her cheeks. What little proximity there had been between them no longer existed.
Something they both noticed.Â
Lance shot back onto his heels, awkwardly rubbing the back of his neck as he too adorned reddened cheeks. Pidgeâs petite frame straightened at his movement, silently chewing on her bottom lip. All memory of his question had left her mind in an instant. The following ticks seemed to drag past, until Lance swallowed his pride and opened his mouth.Â
âHey Pidge, can I ask you something?â
Pidge ignored the ache in her stomach, delving her hands into the gap. âShoot.â
Lance fiddled with the wires in his hands, the words lingering in the back of his throat. Inhaling, he shuffled on the spot. âDo you really think Iâm just a goofball?â
At his words Pidge froze, and for a moment Lance believed he may have broken her. Another tick passed before Pidge spoke.
âOf course not, why would I?â
Lance sat forward on his knees, closing the gap between them again. âItâs just⌠A while ago, you said that was 'my thingâ⌠and I wasnât sure if you meant that was all I was good at or itâs just how you see me. I canât help but think thatâs all Allura sees me as too and thatâs why she and Lot-â he stopped.
Pidge had turned to look at him, and in that second, he became transfixed. Her amber eyes seemed to pierce him. In the diffused glow from the hole in the holo-desk, she became almost ethereal. Something that was only strengthened by the sincere smile cracking on her lips.
âLance, youâre so much more than that.â Pidge sighed, dropping her hands to her side. âYouâre kind, strong and an irreplaceable sharpshooter. Youâre selfless and talented, and if the princess canât see that thenâŚâ Pidge licked her lips in anticipation as she smiled. âThen you deserve to find someone who can.â
Lance blinked, nodding slowly with his eyes holding Pidgeâs. His vacant expression produced a quiet giggle from the green paladin. When she chuckled at him, for the first time in weeks, Lanceâs heart fluttered.
An easy silence settled over their shoulders, the only remnants of sounds being their own heartbeats in their chests. Lance swallowed the lump in his throat,
âThanks Pidge,â he said softly, voice wavering for a moment. The smile on Pidgeâs face spread into a wide grin, her glance falling down to her hands as her blush deepened.
âYouâre welcome, Lance.â She went to turn back to her work but hesitated, a slight frown on her brow. âYou know, you shouldnât doubt yourself like that⌠especially if itâs because of something I said.â
Lance gave a short chuckle, âWell youâre so smart I figured you knew what you were talking about.â He said with a shrug. Pidge shook her head lightly,
âWhat happened to âEvil Genius, my assâ?,â she laughed, punching him gently in the shoulder. Lance rubbed his arm where Pidgeâs fist had made contact, attempting to fight back the heat in his face as he laughed along with her. He held her gaze again, and inexplicably felt himself lean towards her. Pidgeâs eye widened tenfold, perfectly in sync with her heart faltering in her chest.
âI need to get my other tools,â Pidge blurted hastily, getting to her feet. Lance shot backwards, utterly bewildered.
âI-er, Pidge wai-â
âIâll be right back,â Pidge added factually, if not a little shaken.
âAre you really leaving me? Like this?â Lance pressed, lifting up his wire bound hands as he met her eye. Pidge stared blankly for a second. Not a a tick later she was smirking, and before Lance could comprehend what was happening, her lips were on his, leaving him breathless.
âWhat else could I do?â She said simply with a shrug, then turning sharply on her heels and disappearing out the door.
