Chandelier in Paris Grand Opera House
Paris, France
Taken while I studied abroad in Rome. I spent a weekend in Paris.
Eiffel Tower, Paris
My weekend in Paris was extremely personal. I didnāt go to any museums, I just walked around the city and its land marks, and I did it all by myself for the most part. This weekend was extremely rainy and cold. As I was walking to the Eiffel Tower from the metro, I found this lonely white balloon stuck in one of the trees. I thought it was very poetic. Its moments like these that only reinforce my belief that the best way to experience a foreign land is not solely by going to all of its fancy museums, but by simply walking its streets. That way, you get to see more things than what is going to be there forever like the Eiffel tower, but also the beautiful things which are fleeting, like this balloon.

#get with the program the new humor is benevolent surrealismĀ (x)
I always wanted to know what to call it.
This is something Iāve been meaning to talk about, and I may do a full blog post at some point, but hereās a capsule version:
The Benign Violation Theory of humor, which is probablyĀ the best one out there,Ā suggests that something is perceived as funny when it is simultaneously perceived as violating how the world āshouldā work and as benign. Something like theĀ āgunā meme, for example, is funny because it violates our sense of how a joke should progress, and at the same time itās harmless.Ā
Racist/sexist/etc shock humor violates our sense of how the world workāin either aĀ āthatās not true!ā orĀ āyouāre not allowed to say that!ā wayāand therefore whether you find it funny is based on whether you find it benign, which is to say either you think itās harmless or you donāt care about the people it harms. (This is the root of the punch up/kick down distinctionājokes that punch up are funnier than jokes that kick down because the people they target are less vulnerable and therefore less likely to experience harm.)
So yes, science agrees that if you think racist jokes are funny, the reason is that you donāt care about the feelings of the people the joke is about. Thereās a word for that.

Yāknow I reblogged this a bit ago and was saved from financial probation and getting kicked out of school because of it, just mere months from graduation. Got a call from the financial aid advisor telling me that they made a mistake with filing my account (or some other sort of clerical error) and said that, basically, they owe me money. Welp.
Last time I reblogged the money cat, I won two $100 gift cards at work.

I went to the Philadelphia Museum of Art last Wednesday. Needless to say, things got #RATCHET At least I know St. Francisās history like the BACK OF MY HANDā¦. Get it? Because of the stigmata⦠The back of his hand is bleeding⦠Anyways, seriously contemplating making this a school project. Let the kids have fun with it as long as they know their facts. Nobody is going to hire me.
Growing Up
The most terrifying experience of my life so far, is growing up. When I started becoming an adult, I started asking myself all these questions. Really hard questions.
From going to school, you get used to getting your questions answered, or answering questions yourself.
Now that I'm out of school, the questions keep piling up, and I begin to realize that there are no answers for them. Its just a huge, horrible, decaying pile of questions, uncertainty, and insecurity that is only going to get bigger.
I may find some of the answers as I go along, but who knows when? It might be long after I needed the answer. That uncertainty, is truly terrifying to me.Ā
