I have a great amount of respect for the veterans of wars, warriors and tacticians. I have had family who served - my grandfather in the second World War, and my uncle in the National Guard. I don’t want any arguments, I don’t want any contests. I want to remember those we’ve lost, those who’ve survived, and the contribution all have made to the events of today, the things that contributed to positive outcomes.

I know this is a bit late, and I know this is entirely the US, but I want to stress that by no means we forget the sacrifices of others from other nations, other times.

Would you happen to have a list of awesome, top-notch Cyberpunk literature/comics that could help me fill up my reading time?

I can give you “my” list of faves - but your mileage may vary:

William Gibson - read it all, start with the Sprawl trilogy.

Neal Stephenson - Snow Crash & Diamond Age are my faves.

Walter John Williams - Hard Wired

John Shirley - Black Glass

James R. Strickland - Looking Glass

For Comics all I can really think of is “Shatter” / “Akira” / “Ghost in the Shell”

I’m sure my fine followers will tack on their faves too - watch the notes section.

The Shockwave Rider - Joe Brunner, first use of the word “Worm” in reference to cybersecurity.

Eden: Its an Endless World! - Manga by Hiroki Endo, who really liked GitS, took GitS and turned it up to 11. Kinda gory, a bit heavy with the themes, but then again, Cyberpunk is all about heavy hitting with the themes.

AppleSEED - the manga is great if you like Shirow Masamune, its GitS’s precursor, there’s a lot suggesting it takes place in GitS’s future too.

Battle Angel Alita - Yukito Kishiro, used future Cyberpunk manga, the poor, violent, and imperfect live on the trashheap and desert surface of Earth, the richer and more sound live on a flying city. Last Order takes it interplanetary. It’s not as technical or serious as GitS but its worth the read.

Sorry, I don’t really read comics per se, and I haven’t ventured as much into Manga as I’d have liked.

On the topic of ESO

So one of my friends who had played it in beta has gone back to playing the game now, and watching it, it doesn’t look as bad. And since it went pay-per-copy as opposed to sub, Its made me consider playing it. I will say I have had a prejudice against the game, I felt like it didn’t do the world justice, and I was fearful that the world I called home (Morrowind was my first RPG ever) was to be burned to the ground. Though that doesn’t seem to be the case now. It’s also still fairly populated, so I might try it. I would however, like some feedback

Do you guys think it’s an ok game to play?

Is it a massive blow to the series’ reputation like i thought it was or is the blow not so massive (let’s be honest it wasn’t recieved as well as it could have been)?

I hate when people get asked “star trek or star wars?” and they cop out and say “you can’t compare the two”. you absolutely can. we’re comparing them right now and star trek has won

And then there’s EVE Online :P

Though honestly you can compare the two but they have a very different feel. Star Trek usually is about the intricacies of negotiation and space exploration. Star Wars is Jidai Geki mixed with at times total warfare and cyberpunk on the city planets. Star Wars was meant to have an EU, as the setting was so large and so diverse to accommodate a great deal of stories that could be told. If you’re going based on the movies/other media, sure you can argue. But setting-wise they have their own quirks that put them in unique positions to tell different stories. Warhammer 40k and Fantasy as well are set up like this, which allows the players to create their own continuums within the greater picture of the setting. Same with the reason Black Library exists.
