It’s a process that can take months to complete. I’ve seen white people claim that all they gotta do is not wash their hair for some weeks and it’ll occur naturally, when I was younger I even saw someone on a forum claiming that toothpaste was used to dread their hair.

That’s not how that works and part of the reason I made this post is because of the misrepresentation that is often spread because of white dreads.

The person braids the hair depending on how thick or thin they want the locks, and occasionally beeswax is used to hold it all together.

The person has to return to their hair dresser frequently during the start of their dressing for “maintenance”, where their hair is washed, the scalp oiled, and the locks retwisted.

Depending on the texture of the hair it might take 6 months or longer for the hair to “lock” up properly. White people hair is not the kind that locks.

After the starting period is over the person can either wash their hair and retwist on their own, or have a hair person do it. But no dreadlocks are formed over night by not properly brushing your hair or whatever people in these notes were talking about.

It’s a lengthy and very deliberate process, even for people with the right hair textures.
