Shun the Frumious Bandersnatch!

I've missed a lot of Mundays. And I really wanted to show off my new cocoa mug dad brought me back from Disney.

He’d forgotten what the book was called, but that didn’t matter. He didn’t ask Tove to read it to him for the story- although he did like the story- but for the chance to sit and listen to the other chain’s voice. It was a ritual that had started long before the Tragedy; Bandersnatch would approach Tove, gently nudging a book in his direction, and Tove would in turn sit and read it with him. Sometimes they took turns reading, but Bandersnatch was always happier when Tove read.

Tove was a fantastic reader. His tone always matched the plot, keeping the canine on the edge of his seat as he listened. The smaller’s accent thrilled him, and he often found himself mouthing the words behind the other, trying to fit them on his tongue in the same distinctive way. No matter how many times they reread the same story it never failed to entertain him. 

It was late and he was tired- that was the only thing that kept him from nudging the other chain awake, eager to get back to their abandoned game. He had gotten the feline to play with him; he could be content with that and let the other sleep.

Bandersnatch tilted his head as he glanced down at Leon’s sleeping form. He only sort of remembered when the other had draped himself across the couch, head in the canine’s lap, and he hadn’t questioned it. They’d bantered back and forth for a bit, keeping it light, until finally Leon’s words had drifted off into a soft purr-like hum. 

It was strange, seeing the chain so at peace. There was no anger, no frown of annoyance, no arrogant smirk. A smile tugged at the corner of Bandersnatch’s lips, his hand lifting slightly to run through the feline’s hair. He couldn’t help it- he’d always loved Leon’s mane, no matter the form. He paused, gauging the other to make sure he hadn’t woken him, then untied the man’s braid. He began using both hands to gently brush through the lion’s hair, carefully working out any knots he found along the way. It amused him how much wave the braid caused- Could he convince Leon to just wear it down for a while? Probably not, but it was worth a try.
