My Top 10 Bittersweet K-dramas
After watching many dramas, some excellent and some not so great, I’ve come up with a list of dramas that will always hold their place in my heart. These dramas are great at making you tear up, smile at the sweet moments and wishing that they would just never end.
I haven’t even finished this one yet, but I knew it already had to make this list. A teacher meets a young girl which she finds out is being abused by her family. Delving into the teacher’s and the child’s background, this drama is filled with a ton of heart-wrenching moments but also very sweet ones. It’s filmed beautifully and the acting, especially Heo Yool’s acting, is just amazing to watch.
Not many dramas can make me cry but this one easily hit my emotions. A man and woman, strangers at first, end up finding themselves in a one-night stand which leaves the woman pregnant. What follows afterward is an emotional roller coaster which leaves you in suspense. Jang Hyuk’s acting in this makes you want to cry along with him in the touching moments that appear during this drama.
A drama based around a ghost and a young woman who can see spirits, this drama starts off rather innocent and quickly causes you to feel a ton of things, even pity for the villain at times. The one thing that I really loved about this drama was the romantic relationship between the leads. I have watched many dramas with rather toxic relationships but the way the guy cares for and loves the woman in this one is rather refreshing.
This drama centers around a thirty-something year woman who has, for the most part, lived a rather safe but boring life. Not married, stuck in a job she hates and mistreated by others, for the most part, she isn’t exactly happy with her life. When she discovers that she only has six months to live, she decides to make the most of the time she has with the man that she ultimately falls in love with.
This was a drama that I found randomly and honestly, didn’t expect much from at first but it took me by surprise. Years after the relationship ended, the leads find themselves meeting once again and the surprises that follow are just as bittersweet as you may expect them to be.
This drama also has some of the most beautiful soundtracks that I’ve ever heard, especially the one by Lim Jeong Hee.
This was actually my first drama that didn’t involve any romance, and it was a refreshing change.
A detective who lost his wife and a policewoman with an extraordinary ability to hear things that others can’t pick up, join together to create the Golden Time team. You can’t help but sit on the edge of your seat as you watch them solve cases while chasing after the serial killer who took their loved ones away from them.
Set in the Joseon Dynasty, you watch as a slave hunter tracks down a runaway slave while also trying to find the love he lost so long ago. This drama was filled with so many twists and turns that you can’t even predict whether the next moment will be sad or sweet.
This drama had more of a unique romance plot which I actually really enjoyed. Smitten with a friend from childhood but lacking in self-esteem, Kim Hye-jin can’t help but panic when he suggests meeting up after so many years. Feeling much uglier from when she was a child, she sends out her best friend to meet up with him instead which causes quite the misunderstanding. It’s interesting to watch what happens as Kim Hye-jin works beside him without him knowing who she really is.
The ending to this one was also one that I really enjoyed compared to other dramas that I’ve watched.
Most of you have probably already heard of this drama, but it still makes my list as one of the best bittersweet dramas that I’ve watched. This drama was actually my first ever one I’ve watched and I feel that it set a great stage for future ones that I watch.
Watching the relationships that happen on screen as well as the tragedies that they have to go through, I couldn’t help but love every moment of it. This drama is also one of the most beautifully shot ones that I’ve watched as well.
10. Hey Ghost, Let’s Fight
A drama that involves a ghost and a man who can see ghosts, the relationship that evolves between the two is definitely sweet to watch. I loved seeing the different ghost cases that they went through as they slowly begin to also solve the case around the main ghost. You also can’t help but feel for the main villain in this drama which is something that many dramas miss the mark with.
