Just rewatched Nimona and kinda want to analyze the way pink is used. In the first scene in Ballister's lair everything is very dark and black and grey, and Nimona is by far the brightest and most colorful thing in the room. She is so pink that everything else feels way colder in comparison. Ballister's life thus far is still stiff and exact even after he's left the Institute, but Nimona's is contrasting against everything he's ever known. Pink is very much Nimona's color, like how Ballister has black, Ambrosius has gold, the Director has green, and Glorith and the Institute have gold and white. Later when she's brought Ballister back from their rampage and she's redecorated, the lair has a lot more reds and pinks in the form of paint and pictures on the walls. It looks way more colorful and way more violent. Most of the scenes in the rest of the movie have primarily white or less vibrant backgrounds, meaning Nimona still stands out wherever she goes, even when she's destroying the city and has become monochromatic. When she turns into the glowing bird and flies into the cannon there's a bright burst of pink (Nimona, change, etc) against green (violently upholding the old ways), and after the resulting clash the lighting is pink. In the final scene back in the lair everything is a very soft, pale pink. Ballister takes down all the boards over the windows to left more light in, probably symbolizing that he's accepted Nimona and her force for change and is letting it in again.
